I love Gabe Kapler, and I am very upset that he's leaving. But he'll tear up the Japanese leagues, and he's getting some great pay. I wish him the best of luck.

I'm surprised Kapler didn't want to come back, and I'm surprised the Sox didn't make an effort to bring him back.

That being said, I was one person who really appreciated all that Gabe did and his contribution to the 2004 World Champion Boston Red Sox.

It's sad to see you go, Gabe, but like Cal said... Best of luck to you.

Hey a lot of guys are in baseball because they want to play.

The money's good, yes, but once you've got as much as you'll ever need (would imagine that an MLB player's minimum wage covers that for most guys) the desire to play becomes a primary factor in these decisions.

Good for him. Can't say I wouldn't do the same thing under the circumstances.

not to mention the fact that japanese girls have an infatuation for people from other countries..

Wow. You took the words right out of my mouth.

Kapler's one of those guys in a tough position. He'll always be seen as a utility guy who never lived up to the hype, unless he gets to prove teams otherwise. The only way he can show off whatever tallent he may have is to play everyday, and no team in the Majors would let him do that.

I'm sure the Sox tried to keep him - but as a backup, and certainly not for 2 Million/year.

Wasn't it Cecil Fielder (I think) who was considered junk, then went to Japan and hit like 50 hrs? Then he came back to the states and hit the tar out of the ball for about 5 years.

Good luck to him.

that signature of yours doesn't make sense.. since when does kb, a-rod, and jeter not have talent?

Stats provided by http://yankeessuck.com/

Derek Jeter batting: .292

A-Rod batting: .286

Kevin Brown: 1 padded glove

enough said.

OMG a-rod only hit .286?? he bats at yankee stadium, if he batted at fenway he probably would have battend .295. don't forget he also hit 36 hr at yankee stadium, at fenway he probably would have hit 50+, he also batted in over 109 for the 7th or so time in his career.

jeter went from batting .240 to .292, nuff said. he also had 23 hr and 99 rbi. many of the games he played he lead off.

brown had probably one of the worse era's in his LONG career. he was just a mess this year.

in conclusion, no that isn't enough said dude. i don't like a-rod after that slap move, but i have no reason really to hate jeter or brown for who they are, especially because i have never met them in person.

they have talent, admit it. you would take a 2.39 era kevin brown on your rotation, you would take a-rod over mueller at 3rd anytime anyday anywhere, you would take jeter as your ss over most of the shortstops that have ever played on the sox.

don't get me wrong, i'm a die hard sox fan, but if you're going to bash the yankees use something good, not something lame like "they have no talent". jeter will probably go down as one of the best baseball captains ever, a-rod could very well go down as the best player to ever live and brown could make the hof as a pitcher.

Brown in the hall of fame, you have got to be smoking a huge crack pipe to suggest that.

The only way that dick gets to the hall of fame is if he takes his kids to see it.

The rest of your post makes some sense but I dont mean to be critical but the part about Brown, has to be one of the ost absurd things I ever seen on here-ever!

That being said, I am upset about Gabe too. I read that he agonized over this decision, but inseeing that the starting outfield is set and signed through 2005-I guess he saw this as opportuntity to play full time, earn some yen while he is still in his prime. I wish him and thank him for everything. The guy was gritty, had a ton of heart, was a key part of the team. Gave it his all--filled in when Nixon was hurt. I loved that guy!

I would rather have guys like Kapler any day of the week than over paid, greedy *******s like pedro-regradless of how well he can pitch.

Sinara, Gabe and good luck!!!!

I have a lot of respect for Kapler. He's an amazing athlete, and a hell of a defensive ballplayer with good offense as well. If we could, I'd trade Nixon for some more pitching, and have Kapler in right...but I agree with els. I hope Kapler tears it up in Japan, and someone back in the bigs (hopefully the Sox) will sign him.
