Peter Gammons has reported that Anaheim will offer Varitek a 4 year deal in the 9 million per year range.

why would they do that? they have 2 catchers who are very good defensively. they also have a great lineup that grinds down pitchers. they don't need a aging catcher that is a compiling hitter.

What would they do with molina?

Likely trade him. What else could they do with him? I'm sure Jim Bowden would love to give up Ryan Church and Maicer Izturis for an aging, .275 OBP catcher after we acquire Schneider.

(That was sarcasm at Jim Bowden's stupidity if you didn't catch it. I know most people don't follow prospects, so I felt the need to clarify.)

The top catcher on the free agent market, Jason Varitek and the Sox continue to try to close a wide gap. Varitek initially sought $55 million over five years, and the Sox asked him to accept $36 million over four.

i hope this means he understands we cant pay him what he wants. we need tek back, i dont want schneider playing here, we would have to give up too much to get him, and we most likely have no other alternatives other than mirabelli and schneider, as damian miller already signed with the brewcrew. i think mirabelli is good, its just the fact that hes never played everyday before that i dont know how successful for us he could be. he doesnt really know the beatings that a catcher who plays everyday knows.

Varitek, let alone Posada, is not worth that kind of money. Last I checked, the only catchers who are are Pudge and... that's it I'd say. :o

Oh, and Bonds* referred me. :harhar:

Dec. 3 - Jason Varitek's agent, Scott Boras, earlier this week proposed a five-year contract offer to the Red Sox that would allow the team to void the deal after four years if injury prevented Varitek from playing in a specified number of games or reaching a certain number of plate appearances, the Boston Herald reports. That's a slight concession from Boras, who had been pushing for a five-year, $55 million deal with a no-trade clause.

The Red Sox offered Varitek fours years for $36 million, an average of $9 million per year. According to the Herald, it remains unclear if an agreement could be reached simply by splitting the difference and settling for $40 million over four years. One thing remains certain, however: The Red Sox will not budge on the no-trade clause.

From ESPN.com's rumor mill.

tell me, why is boras the bigger ******* again?

i thought tek was the aging catcher that is demanding a no trade clause and 5 yr 55 mill. last i remembered the players sign the contracts, not the agents.

tek isn't worth more than 7 mill per. PERIOD.

I know he is just doing his job, but he makes players feel that they are worth more then they actually are.

what planet are you on?

tek: (talking to boras) i want this this and this

boras: (talking to sox) we want this this and this.

sox: (talking to boras) we'll only give you this much

boras does all the negotiations and does the best he can to get trot what he wants. he's the best agent because he gets it done the most often.

i'm sure tek only wants the no trade clause and about 9-10 mill a year. but for the sox to offer him that boras has to ask for MORE than that. if he asked for 9-10 mill a year the sox would counter with LESS.

It's more like this.

tek: (talking to boras) i want this this and this

boras: (talking to tek) you only want 27 million over 3 years? Are you crazy??? I know George Stienbrenner, man! If you ask me all owners can spend like George so we'll place your asking price so high that only those teams offer you money!

tek: (talking to boras) well then, let's go crazy! I want 4 years at 10 million per! Ahahahahaha, but I want to stay a Red Sox because it builds my legacy.

boras: (talking to tek) I hear ya man. But lets do this.. 5 years at 11 million per. Scotty gotta eat, ya know... And we'll throw in a no-trade just to piss them off. You know the fans will force them to make the deal!

tek: (talking to boras) but what if the fans and all of New England think I'm a selfish bitch who's asking for more than I'm worth because we just won a World Series?

boras: (talking to tek) Screw the fans and the entire game. Scotty gotta eat.

you guys are so blinded by your love for tek that you blame everything on boras. it's pathetic.

an agents job is to get the most money possible for their clients. the ones who do so are the best agents. simple as that. tek gives boras numbers that he at least has to get, it's boras' job to get him more than that. anything less is obviously unacceptable, resulting in the firing of boras.

Ahhchon have you had gay sex with Boras? Tek wants to come back to Boston, Boras is telling Tek that he is worth more then he really is. Agents tell owners what players are worth. Players don't dictate their price, their agent does, that's what their paid for.

Usually in a client/agent relationship it's the client who's the boss, but in sports it sometimes seems like it's the other way around. I can almost imagine Boras telling Tek he can't take less money because he'd be letting down all the other catchers coming up behind him and he needs to set the new standard. I'm sure Boras has Tek convinced he's negociating for the greater good. The problem is I don't think it works as well with millionaire ballpalyers as it does with coal miners and auto workers.
Posted
I think that we hate boras because he hasnt really done as much as tek for us and we are to loyal to varitek, resulting in us blaming boras. In truth boras is a great agent who looks for as much as he can get for his clients.

um, that's a pretty simple thing to explain..Boras is an ******* and Varitek isnt.

So we blame the *******.

I am not quite sure what is so complicated about all this. Pedro is playing a game and using a lot of teams to play it with. He talks about loyality and respect and then does nothing to earn either. Yeah sure, you can say he is just trying to get as much money as he can and he deserves to do that, but that doesnt make it appealing. I certainly am not sitting here saying I hope Pedro finds another million or too....he's getting old and I hope he gets as much money as he can.

Varitek isnt playing games with the media,Varitek isnt having tea with georgie boy. varitek isnt playing grab ass with A-f*** etc, or having the mets GM over to his house. Varitek is trying to make a deal with the sox and that's why most fans are positive about Tek and down on pedro...

whats the confusing part???
