Yes, its true that Millar can hit for power and was a major factor in the second half of the season. With that said, when you look at Mientkiewicz who is 30 (Millar is 33), he seems to be more of the complete package.

Fact: Mientkiewicz was the number 3 hitter on Minnesota. Fact: In 2003 he hit .300. Fact: There is literally no comparison btw Millar and Mientkiewicz on the field... And to tell you the truth. while Ive always thought he was a pretty good hitter ive never really liked Millar.

From the Cowboy Up non-sense to the team of 'Idiots' he's always made a point to do and say things that take away from the team. For example this whole mess with the team taking shots of JD before the world series to get fired up, why are u telling people that? Do you think thats a good message to the kids? or do you think your teamate will apprecaite that? Remeber when Millar trashed Fancona for not playing him one night... The same manager that stuck with him in the first half despite his dreadful performance...

The fact is that Millar is like a leech that always needs to be attached to the spotlight. He gets more recognition for things off the field than on it and frankly im fed up. This team doesnt revolve around you Millar, it never has and it never will. Its about the fans that have waited 86 years to bask in the glory of a championship, not abuot your pregame rituals whatever they may be.

Mientkiewicz is a soft spoken team player who goes out onto the field and does his job. All i can say is that i cant wait to see Millar play again, as long as its for another team...

You make some good points, I just think getting rid of Millar would be hard. He's under contract for one more year, probably one of the most popular players among his teammates, and does not have very much value across the league. Remember, he almost played in Japan.

Best case scenario to me would be keeping Millar as a pinch hitter (where a guy like him usually excels) and maybe for late inning power. Mienkewicz is a great player and I would love to see him every day.

Millar would never be a pinch hitter for a season. Remember when we acquired Mientkiewicz? Doug started a game at first, and Millar started saying about how he thought he was supposed to be the starter and so on. Millar deserves a starting role somewhere, and he won't be happy unless he gets it...good of the team or not.

But remember, this was all before they won the World Series. I'm sure sitting on the bench during the games in St. Louis must have taught Millar something about the concept of a team and how much more rewarding playing for a great team could be. It's also hard to see Millar playing for a team that he has insulted

I'm with Yags (yagmaster) 100%. I said this in the first thread related to this (why was another thread started?), Mientkiewicz is my starting first baseman if I'm Francona. If Millar doesn't like it, trade him.

It's not like we're taking a KEY bat out of the lineup. Ortiz to Mientkiewicz is a BIG downgrade. Millar to Mientkiewicz is a much smaller downgrade. I still believe if Doug's playing every day at Fenway, he has the bat control to hit .300, and just pepper the Green Monster with doubles. Not to mention his AWESOME defense.

Millar is replaceable. Look how many .300, 15-20HR right handed hitters who can't play defense there are in the big leagues...

hey i got an idea lets drop/trade all of our players and sign or just trade for.....Delgado/sexson, Soriano, Renteria, and Beltre.... Lets do that!!!!

OK Guys, that's enough.

Let's not forget that the demise of the Yankees started when they let Tino Martinez (a proven winner) go and signed Jason Giambi to replace him. How many rings have the Yankees won since they did that?

NONE.

Superstar power means very little in winning when it counts, and the Yankees have proven that. Contrary to popular belief, you CANNOT buy championships. You need to acquire the RIGHT players.

Mientkiewicz is that RIGHT kind of player. He's hard nosed, plays the game right, plays INCREDIBLE defense, and is a CONTACT hitter.

Don't get greedy. There's no need to overspend on Delgado or Sexson. Let the Mets do that.

i don't understand why these proclaimed sports writers talk about the sox aquiring more offence. isn't #1 in runs scored 2 years in a row enough hitting?

nubs.

Minky also complained 'bout not geting playing time in playoffs

Was he on the field when they won? Did he catch the last ball of the season? I think he should stop complaining. :D

This battle is a no brainer: Mientkiewicz. As mentioned he has hit .300 before, he is a pretty clutch batter (he got a key HR I believe in the '96 Olympics) and his fielding is unparalleled by Millar. Take also this into account: On any other team Mientkiewicz would be a starting 1B, can we say that about Millar? I don't think so. Other than his positive attitude Millar has little use. DO what you want with him, but not at the expense of Dougie.

PS: If we get Carlos Delgado I will lose all respect for the Sox. His attitude would be worse than Carl Everett's. He may be good, but he's still an arsehole/

I agree with noon. It's hands down.

Dont forget that Millar complained too. they all do and basically thats okay.

Millar is a defensive liability plain and simple, he is a good guy to have in the clubhouse, but these days that's not enough.

I say go Mink and get rif of millar.

delgado is a raging ******* and doubt theo would bring him into this clubhouse.

who the hell wants delgado on the sox? he's one of the last free agents i would want on the sox. too expensive for a 1b that will soon become a DH only type of player.
