Rain this afternoon and a chance of showers tonight. Both bullpens would love a rainout, but the Sox have to hope to play to try and keep momentum and hope Schilling goes long. Sox hitters have yet to really explode with a big inning except for Game 1, and they need it tonight.

You have to admire Schilling for going out there. I hope his ankle is as strong as his heart.

I think a rainout would help New York and hurt Boston.

Let's face it: The Sox have the momentum right now and need to keep it.

Rivera's been worked hard. Gordon's been worked hard. Allowing them a night off only makes them stronger!

Yes, the Sox bullpen is tired too. But as I've posted before, I think a guy like Foulke or Wakefield bounces back better because he's not a power pitcher... call me crazy.

I think Mirabelli should start tonight for the following reasons:

Varitek is struggling at the plate.

Varitek is 0-5 in his career against Lieber.

Varitek has caught 26 innings in the last 2 games.

Mirabelli is more than capable.

Mirabelli is 3-8 in his career against Lieber.

Mirabelli is fresh.

I love Varitek, but the man's been beaten up the last 2 nights. Catching is the hardest position to play, and he could use at least a few innings off.

Interesting theroy on Mirabelli, you sold the idea to me!

Good. Someone get Terry Francona on the horn.

The suspense is killing me.

What will we get from Schilling?

Will somone not named David Ortiz step up?

Can David Ortiz continue to swing a hot bat?

Can the Sox figure out Jon Lieber?

Can this game possibly end before midnight?

Schilling is going to pitch the gutsiest game of his life. My only concern is that he'll be so fired up that he won't be able to last as long as we need him, with our bullpen in such bad shape.

tonight should be interesting schilling's only other postseason loss was in game 1 of the 93' world series and his number in that game and in game 1 this series are very much alike, in 93' he pitched in game 5 of that series and pitched a complete game shut

lieber is due for a bad start and i sure hope it doesn't come tonight because all bets are off in a game 7

i like the idea of mueller batting 2nd.. i like the idea of damon getting a hit more.. but yeah.. that hasn't happened yet.

why is schilling not wearing that high top designed for him. is that red s*** on his ankle blood or that stuff they are injecting in him?

he's a groundball pitcher, what do you expect?

Good point, but against dominant groundball pitchers like Kevin Brown in his prime, it's not frusterating, it's impressive. When Lieber is shutting us down, stranding baserunners every inning, it gets excruciating. A pitcher like Brown didn't let many runners reach base.

I love how there is a thread here entitled "Bellhorn Sucks," but when he comes through big, we all of a sudden love him.

Guess that's how Sox fans are. ;)

4-0 SOX!

BTW, thanks for making us shut the hell up Mark!

i'm not shutting up. bellhorn sucks. he strikes out way too much and is a total compiling hitter. he only hits well against bad pitchers. john lieber is a bad pitcher no matter how you look at it.

Because I'd rather not get into another argument with you, John, you're right. But I guess I am looking for a reason to like him, and he has delivered, at least today.
