If he keeps at his current pace, he'll have put up the best performance by a reliever in modern baseball history. He has more saves than baserunners allowed. He's been unfathomably good this year. -

IMO, Papelbon is the AL Cy Young right now, and it's not very close. -

A Mets fan perspective: The day the Mets trade David Wright is the day I move to Texas. He's treated like a messiah here. He'll have statues erected for him on Broadway soon. He's gonna get some votes for MVP in the NL. He was stellar this year. He'll be a career Met. In other words, fuggedaboutit.

Anybody see the play last night? Sheffield flies out on a nice play by Dye, Sheffield must've been given the hit and run sign, so he needs to run back to first. When Dye throws it back in, A-Fraud looks at the ball and then sticks his foot out and kicks the ball away, preventing what would have been an easy DP. Interference was not called this time. It was clearly intentional, and typical A-Fraud.

Another dominant performance through five. On four days rest.

9 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 9 K, 1 BB vs. John Smoltz's 15 strikeouts in a classic duel. He got the W after Smoltz gave up a two-run HR to Beltran in the 8th, and the Mets got their first win.

A Mets fan perspective: There's only one word to describe Pedro's performance after the first inning Dunn HR (really just one bad pitch)- dominant. Koufaxian works too. He had major movement on the fastball, movement I haven't seen from him since 2000. He was hitting 95 when he needed to, and was consistently 93-94 on the gun. The curveball and changeup were outstanding. After the HR to Dunn, he struck out 12 of 15 batters. Domination. It's too bad that the one 'pen arm that Mets fans could actually count on blew what is already being considered one of the best performances by anyone who donned a Mets uni. I expect big things from Pedro in 2005.
