I might be the only one who thinks this, but this game is CRUCIAL. Both the Red Sox and Angels are saying that momentum ends with each game, and that past games mean nothing... but let's face facts: The Red Sox NEED to win this game. Here's why:

Momentum is a very real thing. We have it now, but if Anaheim wins, they have the momentum. All of a sudden, the Red Sox are faced with the pressure of losing 2 straight at home, and the Sox DO NOT want to go back to Anaheim.

Only 1 team has lost its first 2 games AT HOME and come back to win the series: The New York Yankees.

So, of course, history is on Boston's side. HOWEVER, if any team is capable of making historic collapses, it's the Red Sox. I don't need to say any more words on this topic.

With each Anaheim win, the momentum swings, and the pressure on Boston players mounts. Anaheim, despite losing the first 2 games of this series, is a VERY good team and is capable of winning 3 games in a row.

I love this team, and I am confident in this team. But I urge fans not to get over confident, or to write off the Anaheim Angels just because we're in the driver's seat. Just last year, the Red Sox lost the first 2 games of a series, but were able to come back and win 3 straight. It's happened 7 times before we did it last year, too.

So, with that out of the way, I believe the Red Sox can win tonight's game. Arroyo hasn't lost a game since August 15th, and he's 5-0 in 9 starts since then.

Discouraging statistics:

Only 1 of those 4 wins was recorded at home (against Detroit).

He gave up 5 runs in BOTH of his last 2 home starts (against Baltimore and Anaheim)

He's 0-1 with a 9.72 ERA against Anaheim.

Encouraging statistics:

The Red Sox have won all 9 of the starts Bronson has made since August 15th.

Bronson has held righties to a .227 BA this season. Anaheim's big power bats (Guerrero and Glaus) are right handed.

Bronson's performance against the Yankees at New York (6 IP, 2 R) shows he doesn't buckle under pressure.

The bullpen is rested. The offense is hot. The Red Sox need Arroyo to outpitch Escobar for 6 innings, and the bullpen to close it out.

i agree that this is HUUUUGEEE game for the sox for 2 reasons:

1.) they get some rest before the ALCS

2.) most importantly, schilling has only pitched 1 game thus far which means that in the ALCS he would pitch games 1,4, and 7 (if necessary) and that would be crucial.

But, hypothetically speaking, if the sox lose tonight does schills take the mound tomm?

GO SOX!

I think wake would go tomorrow and schill would go in a game 5 if we lost the next two. That way you could have Pedro start the ALCS and Schill could maybe pitch the second game.

IF the Sox lose today, it would be Wake tomorrow. If they lose tomorrow, it would be Schill on Sunday.

Let's hope it doesn't get that far.

It's GO time.

Anyway, this is my last post until next Thursday. Hopefully the Red Sox will still be alive!

Where you going?

We really made Kelvim work in the third inning. They were talking about it on TV how Papa Jack wanted us to take pitches, and that's exactly what we've done. Our hitting coach really is one of the underrated elements on the team.
