Schilling still got robbed of a W and will cost him in the Cy Young race, it was the only catagory he led in. Who knows, Santana might not pitch as much cause the Twins clinched already

Bah, cy young shmy young. Sure, Schilling must be pissed, but he pitched a helluva game. This most likely helped him more than it hurt him. 14 k's? Come on......

Thank you, CrespoBlows, you are a scholar and a gentleman.

What's up with Damon's K? Was it really strike 3 or did he get jobbed?

Nice work by the bottom of the lineup and the pitch-hitting Greek god of walks. Oh, yeah, Bellhorn too.

thanks, and thanks.

No that Ryan pitch to Damon was a thing of beauty (it was) it was a slider that broke in at the last second over the plate

Thanks to all for the info. Now I can sleep peacefully rather than staring at the ceiling for 3 hours thinking, "Why has this vile fate been visited upon me?"

BTW, the ultimate of staring-at-the-ceiling-trying-to-go-to-sleep for me (as I suppose it was for many of you) was ALCS Game 7 last year. I was watching the game in Africa and it was about, oh, 5 AM local time when the game finally ended. I wandered dazedly back to bed, my heart thrashing against my ribs, head empty of all but tired expletives. I'm pretty sure there was no sleep in Mudville that night.

All that to say, looks like a sound night's sleep tonight (as soon as I finish my Greek homework...).

Do you travel for a living? Sounds pretty interesting what you do, based on what you wrote.

CrespoBlows -- Dang, as soon as I posted that, I knew that I had sunk down to that "I'm an interesting person" tone, where I drop a couple of little hints and hope that someone will think I'm cool enough to ask me a couple of questions. Sorry about that. It's ugly behavior  .

To answer the question, I live in West Africa most of the time where I work as a missionary/linguist with a people group called the Aja -- about 700,000 people living in the countries of Togo and Benin. Now I'm in the States for a while, going back to school. So that's why I mentioned Africa and Greek (I'm studying Greek now since it's the original language of the New Testament).

Anyway, now it's your turn to post something like, "Tonight's win reminds me of when I was orbiting the earth in the space shuttle, performing emergency kidney surgery on a fellow astronaut, and using my spare mental energy to calculate the world's highest prime number." Then we'll be even :) .

Wow. Up, down. Left, right. Go Bellhorn!!!!!!

haahahahaha, I was coming on expecting to see something like this from you, knowing how much you hate Bellhorn

Wow.

Schilling didn't get the win he deserved last night, but let's face it: Lopez didn't deserve to lose, either.

What's up with Francona asking to see Lopez' cap at the start of that 8th inning? Do you guys think he did it to rattle him? He walked 2 guys after that happened. Does anyone think it actually DID rattle him?

I think Francona probably did it in an attempt to rattle him, but the walks could probably be attributed as much to the fact that he was tired as that little meeting.

Either way: Walks KILLED the Orioles last night. 2 of the 3 runs scored got on base via the walk.

On the other hand: Bravo Kevin Youkilis, for getting on base to start the 9th.

What the Foulke? He should have saved that game. It ended a streak of 16 straight converted saves. Let's hope this is just one bad game (which I think it will be).

One of the most memerable games of last season was at Fenway, against Baltimore: We're down 5-2 late, and Todd Walker hit a 3-run HR to tie it, then Ortiz gets the walkoff homer to win in extra innings (or it may have been bottom 9)..... This game reminds me of that game. Bellhorn has k'ed 161 times this season...... That's crazy.

Anyway, glad to see the Sox finally win, let's hope it starts some momentum for the final 2 against Baltimore then into the Yankee series. I still don't think we'll take the division, but we've got to make a statement against the Yankees next weekend. Last weekend was embarrasing.

Els, I think the only reason managers ever ask for caps to be checked anymore is to rattle the pitchers. It worked this time around apparently.

What pitcher would really be stupid enough to keep something in his hat, knowing that if he is discovered his reputation would be shot?

And everybody was ready to get on Bellhorn. Shame, shame, shame. Everyone, hop on the Bellhorn bandwagon! I'm driving this bad boy!

Yeah, but how often to managers check?

You said so yourself, nobody checks unless to rattle pitchers. It happened in the ALCS last year (I remember Timlin getting checked, but I can't remember who on the Yankees did)

Anyway, I'm glad Lopez wasn't cheating... But I'm also glad we beat him in the end.

I'll try

Yeah, this win was just as ugly, as 'Nam. Wading through the rice paddies, with just a 9mm looking for those rice balls. The bullpen's got problems? s***, there were ants bigger than that HR Foulke let up.
