Boston hopes to keep hot vs another Wild-Card contender.

Last series before the All-Star break.

Arroyo is 2-7 with a 4.50 era has been throwing better of late.

Joaquin Benoit is 3-3 with a 6.03 ERA.

The keys to the game tonight: Boston getting the early lead...and holding it (isn't that the key to every game?)

Arroyo deserves better than a 2-7 record. Let's hope the offense (and defense) give him some support.

i agree, the early lead is important, like it was last night. I would ove to see double digits on the scoreboard again.

Let's hope the high-powered offense keeps scoring runs, and Bronson pitches well....oh yeah, and the bullpen doesn't blow it....

I think last night the team missed Scott Williamson. He's the perfect guy to help bridge the gap if a pitcher has to exit early (as Curt did last night) and missing him caused a big whole in the pen.

I don't often get to actually see games, but I follow the post-game commentary pretty closely. My impression is that Arroyo is really pitching quite well recently, but maybe someone who actually sees the games (i.e. anyone else on this site) can help me understand 1) if that's in fact true and 2) why we always seem to lose his starts. I know he's gotten lousy run support, but does he contribute to the losses (for example, pitching well enough to impress everyone for 4-5 innings and then self-destructing)?

i think its more like he pitches decently over a fair amount of innings. Like he gives up 3 or 4 runs over 6 innings, but he gets horrible run support. Then the bullpen usually implodes, and that secures the loss. Hopefully, today we can change that.

i have to say again Damon is unbelievable. What a stud.

And by the way I want want ever millar is on tonight.

PS: I dont want whatever Varitek and Bellhorn have been smoking.

Varitek just looks downright horrible. But its a nice game and I am not going to be negative this feels too damn good fior any griping.

I have never had any beef with Damon. I don't care what he makes this year or next, it's chump change. He's good and the only reason people bitch about him is his salary. I think he was injured most of last year anyway (because of his outstanding efforts), so I think we're finally seeing the guy we thought we had to begin with.
