Gordon Edes of the Boston Globe said something VERY interesting, I'm going to quote him here:

"Last season, through 71 games, they were 41-30, and they wound up with 95 wins."

Considering they're 40-31 right now....That puts things into perspective a bit.

Last year we had no injuries other than Mendoza for those first 71 games. Without Nomar, Trot, Mueller, Kim, and now Pokey, we are ONE GAME worse than last year. Looks like they want to play to me. Or if they don't, heaven help baseball if they decide that they do.

I don't see what the big fuss is all about. Every team in baseball has or will hit the skids this season...I'd rather hit 'em now before the all star break than in august or september...this team will be fine. theo will make any moves he deems necessary and this team will either take the East or settle for the wild card. call me naive, but i'm frankly not that worried about this team.

We may be about on par with last year's 95 game winner, but last year's team didnt go 25-25 since the beginning of May.

Will we snap out of it? Yes. Will we snap out of it in time to fight the yankees and the AL west? Who knows.

The Sox were all revved up at the start of the year with many guys looking to take advantage of playing time due to injuries. It seems to me as though they put so much effort into taking 6 of 7 from the Yanks that they only had a little bit left afterwards. Instead of exploding ahead of the Yanks with their series against the likes of Cleveland, KC and Tampa (while they were struggling), the Sox choked in a lot of those series, as they are now while the Yanks turned it up. The Yanks are going to cool off soon, and now that the lineup is healthy for once, there is no reason to think that starting with the Yanks on Tuesday, the Sox may hit a hot streak that could get them back within striking distance of the AL East.

So, you're saying that maybe facing the yankees will give the team the infusion of energy that they so desperately need? Interesting. I probably agree with you too. We looked so on top of things when we played the yankees early on in the season, maybe because of the energy facing rivals gets going in players. Hopefully thing'll pick up, I'm actually looking forward to the yankees series. Hehe, how often do you WANT your team to play the yankees?

i forget what optimism means. is it a lookout for the better..kind of thing?

YANKEES SUCK

I'm getting sick of losing whenever the Yankees do, which is very rare these days. The only way to gain any ground is to beat them head to head obviously, and we know we aren't going to dominate as we did in April.

I get carried with comparisons to last year, too. But it doesnt mean anything other some satsisttical manipulation of the facts, if every team was doing the same maybe, but this a is a whole new year--and last year dont count for nothing.

25-25 is this year and it sucks. We need someone to step up and it appears to be manny anbd DO...Nomar garciapopup seems to be coming out of his coma, and well, if the 4 and 5 starters can do better than throwing BP..We may have something.

Nothing would be sweeter than taking the series from the yankmees.

We're 6-1 against the MFY so far this season. If that's not reason to be optimistic right now, I don't know what is.

Oh yeah, and they get to deal with our full arsenal at the plate for the first time, too. :D (Youk-for-Mueller is a neutral switch so far this year, so it's still "full")
