i dont think he will do much besides fill in once in a while. i do see him pinch hitting late in games for bellhorn, mccarty, daubach, pokey etc. this is a very good idea because we can get a sense of what he can do now at the major league level and what he needs to work on

He won't make an impact until about 2 years from now. If he stays up at the major league level (he won't when trot and nomar are back, if they ever are), he'll only see time as a backup and as a "give people rest" type of player.

The roster is only 25 men, he can't stay on unless someone else goes down. I see Crespo and him being the odd men out.

The downside to this was that Malaska was optioned back down to AAA. Too bad, he looked really impressive too. Hopefully he'll be back soon. But I can't complain with Youki's homer. :D

Going 2-4 with a hr in your first major league game is a great way to win over the fans. He impressed me, thats for sure. And not just because he got 2 hits, but because he looked good. His swing looked pure, and his stance just gave off an aura of power. I expect great things to come from him.

If Youkilis produces at Pawtucket once he's returned there and Mueller continues to struggle with consistency at the plate and nagging injuries, no one should be surprised if the Sox don't take Mueller's 2005 option and hand the job to Youkilis.

I think even if Mueller does produce at the plate, they'll choose Youkilis. He's a cheaper option, and is going to kick some significant ass in years to come.

The more I watch Youkilis, the less I want the Sox to pick up Mueller's 2005 option. Hell, maybe they should throw Mueller on the 15-day DL for his knee and give Youkilis an extended look.

2 hits again in today's game, he looks really really impressive, even more so than last night.

....and he's supposed to be the "Greek God of Walks" according to the non-gay Billy Beane.

I'm impressed.

Does anyone know how long Mueller will be out? I'd like to get a prolonged look at this guy to see how he handles over more than two games. He travelled down with the team to Florida, so thats a good sign at least.

Hey, I forgot to mention that I was up at the Portland Sea Dogs game when Youkilis got his first MLB at bat and they showed the video replay on the board. The crowd went nuts. Later they showed his homer and the stadium was out of control. That place was packed! I can't believe minor league baseball turns them out like that, but then again the Sox fans tend to do these things kinda all or nothing.

i think even when mueller comes back, they should keep Youkilis in until he hits a wall so to speak. mueller has been struggling and if youklis went 2-4 vs halladay i think he can go 4-4 vs d-rays pitching
