Not sure I’d give up Mayer. How about Campbell and maybe our #5 or 6 ranked P prospect. Maybe Duran??

As much as we love Duran, it’s clear that he really could use a change of scenery. Even up for Neto would make sense, however, the angels are probably want more, and I could see either Mayer or Campbell being included.

After the abuse some of the myopic “fans” have heaped on Duran, he’s struggled and done his best.  So, yeah, love is an okay word to use how we should feel and support him.  If he’s sent elsewhere, a change of scenery will most likely get him back to somewhere near the raw talent he has.

How is holding him accountable for his garbage season myopic?

It’s myopic when any fan thinks they have the right because they bought a ticket to abuse someone who is suffering with a mental health issue. Someone who is candid about it, and is taking responsibility for it.There are some things that are just bigger than batting averages and on base percentages.

Most fans have nothing but kind things to say about his strength in advocating for mental health and him being so open about his struggles, myself included. He’s saved countless lives and should be applauded for that.

But holding him accountable and being critical of his on-field performance is fair game for anyone. 
 

Holding him accountable for his off year? Absolutely.  

In as many words yelling at him to kill himself after he makes an out?  Fair game? 

Unfathomable that anyone would refer even vaguely to that type behavior as somehow defined as fair game. Really?  

Thankfully, most fans don’t, and my reference is only towards those who have and continue to do so.    

Save the comments about those who behave this way are the exception not the rule.  It takes only one myopic, and frankly pathetic individual to set someone off.  And I, like you understand that, and in my case from deeply personal real life experience.

Absolutely. Any fan who stoops to that level should be banned from all MLB stadiums for life. 
I’m probably the one who has been most vocal about my desire to move Duran on here for the better part of two years, but it’s solely because I thought they should sell high before the inevitable downward turn happened. Now that his value is in the toilet, he’s likely not going anywhere. It’s going to take a lot for him to even be a league average player and I just don’t think Boston is where he can do it. 

Excellent summary.  We are becoming a team where we seem to be waiting way beyond the value versus viability timeframe before important moves are made.  

That said, we have clearly passed his value as a player, and if, rather make that when, they do move him, I really hope the change of scenery will do him well.
