  1. Only if he can figure out how to block a ball in the dirt and not give yp too many runs
  2. i could care less for very SSS partial year stats for a catcher back from TJS and a couple pitchers new to Boston and a flutterballer...
  3. We also got Junior Lake for OF depth
  4. I thin since Vaz dropped a little weight last year hes got the foot race hands down. Leon is still pretty "stocky"
  5. If the move makes sense at the time, which it did, then you regret nothing. You hope the player you got did the job you need and wish the other well. Pom solidifies the BOTR with the upside of a 2-3 for low $$ and years of control. I think it was all part of the 3-4 year window plan. Espinoza has some special qualities, that if developed, he could become a very special MLB player in 3-5 years. As long as Pom does what was expected of him, then the deal should have zero regrets regardless of how Espi does in a few years.
  6. Not playing the best players has nothing to do with fair. Its just plain stupid. If ERod looks good theres zero reason to store him in AAA regardless of options.
  7. I seriously doubt they gave up Espi for a middle reliever. Pom should stay in the rotation or get traded IMHO. I think Buch will be moved at some point and they will eat a prtion of it and/or add a body to get something better back? I also still havent heard anything about Wrights shoulder so he may not even be an option at the start of the season.
  8. Christ sakes man! Lets hope he NEVER is put in that position again as a PR. Dumbest move in manigerial history! Ok, maybe that was a bit much, but you get it....
  9. I get it and i want both to do well (Pom &Espi)..Im higher on Kopech, not sold yet though, because hes a BIG kid whos body can handle the workload and hes already competed and succeeded against guys at the AA level. If he can do well in a full year at AA this year then I will be sold. Im not high on kids who are only hyped with no real success yet. Theres too many of those. Dominate the lower levels then AA and you will have my full attention. Espi has way more of a chance to flame out at this point than Kopech. Thats not to say MK cant or wont. Hes just had some success already and is no longer mostly hype like Espi is right now. With Kopech being talked about as maybe a sept callup if everything works out well this year, His value was pretty high for this team. As high or higher than Moncada's IMHO. The value return for Espi was fair in MLB terms for what each needed moving forward with whatever their organizational plan is. SD in a constant rebuild (Maybe we can get Espi back in 6 -8 years;) and we were adding necessary pieces for our 3-4 year window. And like you, i wish both success with their respective teams.
  10. And there are always 3 years of possible trades. Not as hard as some make it out to be. Yes, you have to do a good job evaluating talent in trades, and DD has a pretty good record getting good mlb value out of his trades. Im agreeing with you on the basis of its not easy for anyone to scout and develop and find that gem. A lot of times it kinda comes out of almost nowhere..Its a tough game and kids who you think cant miss, all of a sudden get exposed at higher levels and MLB. I Dont know how many kids who look great all thru AAA but can never seem to put it all together at the MLB level...and that goes for every level. Injuries happen and things we really cant predict as well... The great thing is is we have the money to sign a bunch of our young kids whenits time and we've got some kids already down there in positions of need. We've got some younger kids in the lower levels that I'm thinking a couple of them are going to break out this year and they are going to get noticed...I wont overthink this until theres a real concern...three years is a long time in MLB.
  11. If you draft some college kids it wont take 5-8 years. We can make trades for guys who are near ready and/or younger kids with a coup,e years left of development...there are many ways to do it...5-8 years is not realistic unless your drafting all high schiool kids
  12. Unless the kid was King Felix at the same age, hes just another young prospect with high upside. Hes done nothing yet. i get the Pedro endorsement, but ill wait until he reallly impresses me somewhere. I hope he has a stellar career. Im just not as high on an 18yo with potential as some.
  13. They got a lot from supplemental rounds...Kopech, JBJ, Owens, etc... There are some interesting players from this years draft past round one...some good talent. Im really not too concerned with drafting right now. I think there will be a couple gems, along with some good Potential MLB player over the next three years that the Sox draft. I also think DD will make some trades to replenish the system as well... I guess im not as worried about our future because Ive seen how quickly a farm system can rebuild thru draft and trades.
  14. How about an AMC Javlin
  15. Does anyone know how Wrights shoulder has been so far this offseason? I havent read anything on him. Last i knew he was still having shoulder issues at the end of the season. I wouldnt pencil him in just yet. That shoulder lingered a while. He may still have some issues. Unless of course I missed something, which wouldnt be out of the ordinary:D
  16. Fuego....remember that one?
  17. I dont get all the worry from some folks here. How many of those prospects that we traded are going to be a big impact in MLB? A couple? Three? Three years is a long ass time in MLB to restock the farm. Besides, comparing our farm the last couple years to future farm systems isnt fair. Realistically, when was the last time we had as potent of a system from top to bottom before this last run? Its not realistic to have a system like that year in and year out...doesnt happen. I do think we can restock the farm with a top ten system within three years though.
  18. Just curious as to why you think that? He needs to get some control, but thats not a big deal for a 20yo. Hes got good, not great secondary pitches, althouh his slider will probably be a plus. His pitches are good enough right now to work off a 100+MPH FB. That gives him more time to develop the secondary pitches. Lester used to overpower guys when he was young with good, but not all great secondary stuff. It wasnt until he lost some velocity when he had to become a pitcher. So why do you think he cant cut it as a starter?
  19. 18 and 19 are the big years to lose $$ off the payroll. There will be plenty to sign our young players. Why didnt you list those years since I said over the next three? As it stands right now, They should be around 100m owed at the end of 2019, which leaves about 100m for arbs and to sign FA and our own kids. The future is really not as bad as you think it may be. Only if DD doesnt draft and develop, as well as make some smart trades. And honestly...there are guys like Mookie Betts in round 5 and Jon Lesters/Dustin Pedroias in round 2...i trust DD has a team of smart educatd scouts and stats guys hard at work looking for the next future Sox stars. To say it wont be easy is obvious. Its not easy to pick a young kid and predict his future, no matter if hes the #1 pick or #100...
  20. Isnt there some level of pressure that the kids have anyway to just get to MLB? Which is probably a lot. ALL of them have the same pressure, whether from fans, management, and most of all themselves. I was high on Kopech the most. Saw him as our "Noah Syndergaard" in a couple years. We have a nice 3 year window to draft, trade, and overall just stock the farm. No reason we cant go for a couple collage pitchers the first few rounds to have a couple guys closer to the show. I agree that losing him hurts a bit. Kopech more than Moncada for me. DDs moves will become the right ones if his team can draft and develop over the next three years. The good thing is we have some time to stock the syatem again and the financial ability to make other moves. The fact that we have a LOT of $$ coming off the books the next 3 years means we can restock the farm, sign some young players that will be up for FA and keep the flow and balance of prospect/FA/trades going.
  21. kopech was the one that hurt me. I saw him as our Noah Syndergaad type. But we got a proven CY type pitcher. Im ok with Espinoza being traded. If he was King Felix at 18 then maybe id be more bothered by it. I really Like Dalbec...ifhe can improve the hit tool a little, hes A 30+ hr at the hot corner...between him, Devers and Travis, the IF corners are covered...
  22. Ive alreay heard DD menion replenishing the farm again with a trade of a pitcher or anoher player. He identified the keepers. Were NOT going to play every prospect, so he trades them...The position players curently here are set for the next few years. Were sill in a good posiion moving forward. Im sure he farm will be built up again. TO say hes doing it all wrong is a bit premature, no? Hes done the first part, now we wait to see how he replenishes the system...cant say hes doing it all wrong before you give him a chance to actually do it...
  23. I was referring to our rotation... thats why I mentioned CY Young. Besides Kimbrel most everyone is under control anyway
  24. Nope. Not a good fit IMHO
