I agree with Bats. Hes going to try for more. I like Beltran. SH who is still a 300 bat with power from both sides. My guess is 2 years would be plenty. Maybe even a 1yr overpriced deal or an option of some sort. Hes 40 so itll be interesting how teams approach him.

I remember watching him in TB when I lived there and cringed when i found out we picked him up. He was guarenteed to throw one in the photpgrapgers booth or up the RF line every few throws...not an accurate arm at all. Made some great plays to get to the balls, but the throws were always an adventure with him...

I agree about Turner. The short deals with reliable vets seems like the bets route considering our true needs, which are DH and the pen... I really think between What we have for 3b right now we really should be ok. If we need to make a move mid season then so be it, but I think we can start the season at 3b as it stands with what we have now. Hopefully Moncada can catch on at 3b. Im interested to see what moves DD makes and what prospects he sees fit to protect from the rule 5 draft. Theres a few names to consider.

I remember attending a Sox party with a friend who was close with one of the heads of security for Fenway Park. most of the Sox brass there. True story. Theo comes over to the table Im at. Was talking to someone that was at the same table as us at the time. And after talking pleasentries for a couple minutes, and in a somewhat slightly intoxicated voice said, "Ok, I gotta get outta here and take care of this Lugo s***"...I believe within 36hrs Lugo was released...

As long as the deal is good in years i think the Sox will spend a little more. 20-25m per for a two year deal. Maybe a third could be added for Bautista since hes yonger, but i wouldnt go more than that. Either way, i agree that they should go outside the organization to fill the spot.

Beni should do his regular offseason workout and get ready for ST. The kids bat is MLB ready and is a natural ballplayer. Sox have one of, if not possibly thee best OF in MLB with the three B's...i can see another 300 hitter with 20+ HR and a high obp with Beni, as can most...his prodcution in 2017 should help make up some of the loss of Papis bat, Along with a DH signing. Looking forward to a full season of Benintendi, JBJ, and Betts as our very young, affordable, athletic, and productive OF.

I can see a move for a DH/OF type on a short deal. Think Joey Bats or Beltran. Not sure what JB is asking for, but I wouldnt offer more than a 2 year deal with either one. Beltran most likely being the less expensive but is still a 300ish hitter. Both can play 1b/OF if needed but would be our regular DH for the most part. It would certainly be great come interleague as well and both have a better chance at staying healthy being mostly a DH. I think were ok at SP going into the season, especially with Buchs option being picked up. Price, Porcello, Buchholz, ERod, Pomeranz, and Wright. Maybe a Milb signing for depth but I think were ok to start the seaosn like this...I think DD will be active with the bullpen. I can seen another late inning arm since nobody really stepped up and took the 7-8th inning roles. I think a big trade, if there is one, will be done at the deadline. We need to replace Papis production. Getting a beltran or Joey Bats could make up for some of that production. Also counting on a full year of Beni in LF sould be better than what we had this past year. Together, that coild be the answer. We have Pablo and Shaw to play 3b. Holt, Hernandez, Rutledge and Marrero can all backup. Rutledge will probably be let go since he starts arb and is redundant with the less expensive Hernandez/Marrero. I also think one of the latter two will be gone, or put through waivers to free up a roster spot. Holt as the super sub, Hernandez/Marerro in AAA Young as BU OF and Shaw as BU corner guy. If they Add Beltran or JB then either one are another BU Corner OF/1b. This team looks strong heading into 2017 without needing a major overhaul. 3b and DH are the real question marks IMHO, with DH beiing the spot where an outside option is probably the route they take. The bullpen is always a work in progress besides closer it seems. But they will address that as well. Overall, I like what we have and what our team could look like to start 2017...

Really like this move...maybe setting the next guy up now. Hes had success at every level so far and after a year or two as a MLB bench coach he will be a successful MLB Manager as well. Great baseball mind IMO from what Ive seen and heard. Its a young team and he works well, like TL did, with the young guys. Hopefully his voice will make a difference if some in game moves are considered r not...good move.

with Vaz and Leon pretty much penciled in right now as 1-1a for the catchers job, Swihart should do exactly what DD wants him to do. Catch full time in AAA. His value is as a catcher. We can easily find another body to put in the OF if it comes to that again. One of the three B's as well as Young would have to get hurt again. Also Holt. So I wouldnt worry about Swihart having to be called up to play the OF.also, i think were looking at Joey Bats and Beltran. Both can fill a corner OF spot. If Vaz and Leon stay healthy I see Swihart in a trade. He may have been in one this year until the injury fiasco in our OF, which unltimately ended His season. Swihart needs to close the gap between his bat and glove as a catcher. The opposite of Leon and Vaz. He should have a ton of interest by July if he gets back on track. If one of Vaz or Leon get a bad injury again....all bets are off. If not, I say Swihart will be wearing another uniform before next season is over.

2016-2017 Offseason Trade Speculation Thread
southpaw777 replied to Dojji's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
He simply stated that he was very uncomfortable over there which is expected because he's never played there before except a few games in 2013... people forget that he was only 20-21...and yes, it was kind of a demotion. Farrell had zero patients because Xander made a couple errors early on looked a bit shakey. Once again, he was 20-21 yo...so he was moved over the third and Ben actually brought Stephen Drew back, so why wouldnt he think of it as a demotion? it was a stupid move in the first place. First of many major blunders by Farrell -

NP:cool: i think they know what Betts is, and a good idea with JBJ.. But yes, overall they are still young and still have some maturing to do. Im looking at pitching before a bat, but could use both...i just think a need for a starter and a bullpen arm are more of a need. We still have a solid offense. DD will be in the market for a new GM as well with Hazen off to Arizona. -
We should have won and we did have a better team at the time. The players kicked the pooch. Farrell had one bad move which was removing Buch too early IMHO. With that said, Farrell was NOT the reason nor was DD. He put together a great team this offseason. The loss is on the players. Yes, Pedey was injured, but overall The team just didn't perform.
-
I hold onto Kopech and Groome for right now. I think BOTH could be special. I want to see how Kopech does in AA this year. We need a power RHP in the rotation. Too many LHP IMHO. Also, if Kopech cant cut it as a starter, hes got 100++ in his back pocket so a closer is not out of the question. Right now I think I hold onto him. His value isnt really high but there are people watching him now since he hit 105 on the gun this year.

2016-2017 Offseason Trade Speculation Thread

Just said I wouldnt trade Moncada, so No. I think thats way too much for those guys. Quintana is the only real value to me. Too much talent given up for frazier and Robertson. We dont need another LHP andway...at least not without trading one. That would make 4 LHP, a flutter baller with a bad wing, and an inconsistent head case. Id like a nice Power RHP in there somewhere. Hopefully Kopech (AA) can find some consistency and really breakout this year against advanced hitters. I think DD will make a move for Sale and it will probably include Erod somewhere. -
2016-2017 Offseason Trade Speculation Thread

I just think his all around game will be better. His hit tool is outstanding vs LH and RHP. His defense is GG calibur. Does not have the same arm, but Im not as high on JBjs arm as a lot of people. I value Beni's all around game and approach more than JBJ. I think JBJ can get in his own head and overthink things, Especially with the bat. Jbj starts arb and Benintendi has 6 years, which is not really a big deal to me because we got the $$. Its still part of my thought process though. Now, thats not to say I dont value JBJ. Of course I do or I wouldnt be listing him as a headliner to a deal. JBJ is a GG Allstar CFer which will bring back something we need. We have another Allstar, possible league MVP, who can play CF and has GG defense already in RF. I can also easily see Beni as an AS GG OFer in the future. so my thought is we can afford to trade JBJ and still have two studs still out there with Moncada being groomed in the OF this winer and into 2017. Young and Holt could platoon out there, which is fine until Moncada is ready. So, with Moncada now being worked out in the OF, I can once again see three young AS OFers by 2018. Moncada making his OF debut sometime in 2017. -
2016-2017 Offseason Trade Speculation Thread
southpaw777 replied to Dojji's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
Wow, seriously? Bogey has been a steady 4+.WAR for two years. He had a extened slump at the end of the year and was still on of the top SS in the league. To use him to make your point for JBJ, IMHO, is a bit much man. Plus your right, theres is nobody ready to just jump into the SS position like there is in CF. Bogey is a perenial 300 hitter and all star. Had over 20+HR which is one of the best for a MLB SS. Everyone knows your love for JBJ, but when you have two more than capable CFers on either side of him that makes him more available than some guys. Same with Swihart. Swi may have the bat, but his D behind the plate sucks right now, as well as all the other intangibles that Leon and Vaz have. He could possibly be a Lfer if JBJ was traded. Obviously it depends on how other GMs value our players based on their needs. Teams may just want Beni or Someone else. I love JBJ, but I like Betts and Beni more. If a GM wanted JBJ as a centerpiece along with Swihart+ for a top starter, Id do it depending on the pitcher and other players involved. I for no reason move Benintendi, Betts, Xander or Moncada. Make me offers on anyone else. -
Beltran is an interesting option as a short term DH. Hes still close to a 300 hitter with some HR power from both sides without the big price tag. Honestly, out of all our young MLB ready players, I can see DD trading Swihart and/or JBJ. They BOTH have great value and could possibly bring back something worth moving one, or both for. Beni or Betts could easily shift back to CF and Vaz/Leon is a solid tandum at catcher for a few years. Moncada will be in AAA to start 2017 IMHO. And should be. I dont like the idea of Chapman because hes a closer and will want to close. Kimbrel is our closer. Thats going to piss one off. Not a good idea financially as well. Not sure Melancon will want to come back here. I think he likes a dimmer spotlight. It would have to be Someone that can be a late inning arm IMHO. A guy who gets swings and misses is what Id look for.. I like the possibility of Koji for another year too...we rotate a few of our AAA guys that are possibilities like Austin Maddox, kyle Martin, Robby Scott did good in his SSS, And Brandon Workman has healed up and is back. He could be a bullpen or starter option. Besides a closer and maybe a real proven consistent guy like Koji, I dont like to put too much more $$$ into the pen if I dont have to.
-
Im hearing Moncada will be playing a couple positions, not just 3b. He very well could end up in the OF, with one of our three right now being moved. Pablo is probably going to get a fair shot at the starting 3b in 2017 since nobody really stood out. If his fat ass comes in with a much better attitude and he takes full responsibility for how he f***ed the team over the last couple years not being in shape and performs well, then im sure RSN will forgive him. I dont trust him and I cant stand his "meh, whatever" type attitude. Really, besides the pen and maybe a move for a starter Im not sure theres a huge need to go get a Bautista/EE type...thats gonna cost a LOT of $$ for a DH...Hanley is your 1b so no, that position is NOT open. The starting nine is pretty much set already, save for b. But we have options already in house with Pablo coming back. Shouldnt be a overly busy offseason like last year, but I wouldnt put it past DD to make a big trade. I just dont see a big FA signing, but more a trade. I can also see a couple of those involving certain players that would upset a few fans here.
-
Carson Smith is probably counting as one of those guys Moon. He may bring back Koji for low money, which wouldnt bother me either. Kimbrel, Smith, Barnes seem like the main guys next year as it stands right now. Not sure who they consider their main LHP. That may be something DD addresses first in the pen. I think he could sign one main piece and then do the usual of throwing a bunch of guys at the wall and see who sticks. We have a few, what seem to be, decent possibilities on the farm.
-
And why would you note that he HAD to play them and couldnt rest Bogey and the others a day or two more? He could have easily not played Bogey that many days in a row. Farrell has had a tendency to over use his players, especially pitchers.
-
I was not happy to see that...but Mom asked him to from what i hear...
-
Hes been playing sporadically since coming back. Hard to get the full timing back when hes playing a couple times a week, so Im not too concerned about that performance.. From what Ive seen overall, and what i believe he can be when all is said and done is around 380. I agree its optimistic and the number is always give or take a few points, So yeah, thats my opinion.
-
I have to believe after the great night Vaz had the other day he needs to see Holiday too so he can make a choice for the PO roster ....Vaz vs Holaday... Obviously my choice is for Vaz.
-
Clay Buchholz - Is he worth the 2016 option?
southpaw777 replied to Slasher9's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
Have agree with you. Hes been worth his 13m this year just by his august/sept performace as well as his work out of the pen
