  1. I think they knew he wasn’t that guy every year. Good player, but not that perennial Allstar. Maybe the chirping back at fans and his choice of words for them didn’t help either bringing up maturity concerns. I think more needed to be added with him and Breslow overvalued him. After that AS year was the year to get something for him.
  2. The writers sighted sources. Saying other GMs saying he was asking for top prospects. I’d have o see if there’s a link somewhere that’s actually has a GMs name.
  3. I’m a big fan of Eyanson, so I’ll welcome that. Just means we have more options. If we’re selling though. it doesn’t matter. Regroup in the offseason for next year.
  4. I don’t think this team is a legit World Series champion this year. Still feel like 500 at their best. Next year could go better if they make moves at the deadline for some young bats. They’ve got the pitching. Find another closer this winter or go with Whitlock. We have Bennett to replace Gray. Hell, if they can move Bello and Duran too I’m all in. Besides Gonzales we have nothing resembling a legit power bat.
  5. I believe he wanted teams young controlled top pitching prospects. My guess is something needed to be added to that to make it happen since young controlled starting pitching seems to be worth more to teams than what they thought of Duran
  6. Is this both offense and defense? C- C 1b - agree but could go to A soon. Both the bat and glove have been solid. 2b - C Mayer has been good D there. Hopefully the bat catches up. A move back to SS is coming soon. SS - F. Horrible D and bat 3b - C - solid D no bat OF - overall B - with Duran bringing it down the most. SP - B- would be a B+ if it weren’t for injuries and Bello RP - B- we agree on most or are close. They are a 500 mediocre team and have been for 4-5 years
  7. Just read a report that he’s taken a step back in his rehabilitation. This may be more than first thought. He’s already given Campbell 60m before he should have. I’m wondering if Roman Anthony is going to be worth what he was given. not trying to be negative but I thought both deals were too soon. I wanted to see how the league adjusted to both and then how they adjusted back before offering any money. Those two guys didn’t have enough time in the league to really gauge how they would perform. Both really haven’t shown me much.
  8. Not necessarily unload that many, rather I was just listing possible trade candidates with Chapman and Gray being the most obvious. I believe our biggest need is to get a “big bat” from someone who wants a ring more than the player and is willing to deal. If we have to add a little to get it, I’m ok with that too. Besides a young Justin Gonzales, we dont have anything in the system that resembles that profile and Henry isn’t opening the wallet for one in FA.
  9. Only reason Duran is still here is because Breslow wanted the moon for him and no team wanted to do that. Teams would like him but he has to be realistic about each players current worth on the market and to the team.
  10. I saw him as a Brock Holt type, not 3b. He’s a slap hitter. No power. Maybe run into 10 a year
  11. I would say it depends who’s coming back. I’m sure not a lot all alone but if he’s involved in a deal that can bring something back that’s worth it then they have to at least consider it.
  12. He will need Theo to hold his hand I’m sure…
  13. Whitlock too, yes. . I think him and Chapman will bring back the most in Deadline deal if Bres doesn’t mess it up.
  14. Let’s be real…we have some good looking young starters in this organization, but we’re still a mediocre 500ish team. We would have to go over 600 the rest of the way to match last year, which wasn’t even 90 wins. We’re counting on too many 2nd year and 1st year guys. No leadership and a streaky offense. I don’t believe we are good enough this year to be a serious contender against the best teams. I get that the AL isn’t really competitive, but we’re not even serious contenders in a weak AL. theres a few teams interested in Aroldis Chapman, and with a option for 27 that vests with 40ip we could possibly find that big bat we need. we don’t have much pure power guys down there that have stood out besides the 6’6 270 lb young (19) and undeveloped Justin Gonzales. Duran Contreras Gray Are three more that immediately come to mind that could bring something back if they’re performing.
  15. Yeah, now it’ll be more like 2029 before we see him.
  16. Bres already said that the team doesn’t do that (NTC). Bregman would have signed here if he had one. So some guys like that on big deals may not. Im sure players and FO personnel alike see what’s happening here.
  17. Eyanson is the best of the three IMO. Command, a veritety of pitches, good makeup. So far he dominated HIgh A and looks good in one start in AA. He may see a fast rise in the system. Hopefully the other two figure it out. Witherspoon was supposed to be more of sure thing than Phillips. Welcome to pro ball guys.
  18. Love this kid! Has a variety of pitches he can command. Dominated high A and looks like he’ll be just fine in Portland. He could see a fast rise to AAA if AA goes good the next 2-3 months. We need a RHP in this rotation. Hoping his development continues on this pace.
  19. Maybe not that easy after watching the Devers/Bregman fiasco. Players, and front office personnel for that matter, want security and stability unless they’re a young asst GM offered the Prez of BB ops in Boston because no respected front office personnel wanted to work for Henry.
  20. Sellers for sure. Lots of teams have early mentioned Chapman. He could help bring back someone’s young power bat. He’s got an option that vests for 13 m I believe for 27 after 40ip in 26, so he’s got more than rental value.
  21. Agreed. I don’t think Breslow is going anywhere. At least for 26-27. This Owner has got a bad rep amongst front office personnel around the league. Some Players as well. Watching what happened to Devers and having the policy of not giving a player a NTC is more of a deterrent. I just read where Contreras said the clubhouse is more relaxed and less on edge with Tracey in and Cora out. Which is good. But they’ve still been 500 since. That’s what this team is and has been for the last few years. I love where the starting pitching is headed, but the offense is streaky and mediocre. All lifetime BAs of around 250-265. Not one bat you fear. Relying on a LOT of young ball players is risky. the plan of loading up on pitching and the program they’ve put together seems to be working for the most part. The Problem is you have to pay for the big bats in this league or trade for them with young arms or draft them. Besides a young undeveloped Justin Gonzales, we don’t have much. Since Henry won’t open the wallet we’re gonna have to find some short term(2-3 year) like they tried with Alonso, or pick off someone’s else’s cost controlled big bat. which brings me to the question of early trade proposals. Too early? Do we think this team is good enough to beat the best teams in consecutive series? Not so far. They would have to go about 600 the rest of the way just to get to where they were last year. With that said…Aroldis Chapman, with an option that vests at 40ip for next year could bring that bat back. Overall, ownership needs to start treating their front office personnel and players like humans. NYY are a good model for that consistency. Like them or hate them, they spend most of their team earnings back into the team and don’t fire their GMs and change philosophy every few years. They may make a bad deal or two but that’s the name of the game if you want to be at the top of this game.
  22. Unfortunately no respected MLB front office professional will work for Henry which is why he hired an assistant GM for prez of bb ops. The position has been a revolving door of disrespect from Henry towards the person in that position since Theo left. People want stability in that position, and they want to be respected. They don’t want to buy a house only to have to sell it 3 years later and move the family across the country again. Henry doesn’t provide stability to his front office personnel or his players. No loyalty.
