  1. If the RS wanted Suarez, there is -0- doubt in my mind that they'd have beat the Reds' offer.
  2. The first one is a big overpay. IMHO, Abreu is a better player than Rooker. On the 2nd, the Cubs will want a top-100-ish prospect.
  3. Yordan is a great hitter but too injured for my tastes.
  4. I agree with that. The Duran conversation sometimes gets too restrictive. It could be any of Abreu, Ceddanne, or imho, Duran. And we can trade any of our SPs from the #4 on down. But most importantly, once we have the 2b/3b, we control our own destiny. Whether we trade Duran or Bello for a IF, makes no difference to me. Once that happens, we would be in a position to take calls, but a better position to dictate terms.
  5. IMO, all the options are 'okay'. It just depends on the price. Too many variables. My suspicion is that the RS want to start Mayer at 3rd, so he doesn't have move for the next 6 years. If that's their plan, the Suarez doesn't fit and we move on.
  6. Bello + Masa + $18M of Masa's salary. It's not a roster fix, but the L/R is more palatable. We get better hitting, better balance, and a $15M savings to devote to a 2b/3b.
  7. That annoys me just a little bit. Sometimes it's okay to get cute, and play short-term and stuff. But this really feels like it needs a legitimate long-term solution.
  8. He seemed pretty apologetic. He apologized to both the catcher and ump immediately. He knew he was wrong, and that's important.
  9. I agree. Masa isn't really a problem-the roster is.
  10. I'd say Shaw is 3rd on my list behind Paredes and Baty. This is assuming that he will be more expensive. I like his overall resume, but his EV and bat speed are questionable. I'd do it just for fit purposes, but not keen on it.
  11. Most of the trade offers I've seen in here wanted a hefty return.
  12. It'll also depend on how many people are swimming in that pool. Every time someone acquires a 2b/3b, it's one less available, but one less buyer.
  13. Two things: Fitting all of them into the lineup is more a function of the position they play than their left-handedness. Yoshida's field position, if/when he plays, is LF. That gives us 5 guys to play 4 positions, assuming you don't want Ceddanne at 2B. If Duran could go back to 2nd, I don't think we'd have a problem. Last year, we were 24-21 against lefties. Our overall L/R splits were .746/.743, and our splits against lefty starters were a favorable .732/.779. That has to do with the structure of the team, but that's an amazing difference. S, if you ask me if I want a lefty or righty, I'm choosing righty. But if I have a choice between a good lefty, or a mediocre righty, I'm picking the lefty.
  14. That's why I added the '+' after Paredes. I have Duran at 4.7*3, or 14.1 bWAR. I have Paredes at 3.5*3. Houston has to give me about 7 WAR. Since Paredes fits better than Duran, I'll take anything over 5 WAR.
  15. Sounds reasonable. To me, it wasn't that big a deal. He's a very good player that was well-compensated. We lost some talent and gained some spending room. If it was me, I'd have made the switch. But I don't think I'd have liked it one bit.
  16. I knew that once I complimented Fred on his medical expertise, that this thread was going to go to heck. Anyone else want to agree with Fred? Let's get it over with before the whole site crashes.
  17. If you go to the two previous years, before Yoshi's injury, it was .750/.775. If you go to Sept, after Yoshi was recovered, he had .837. I expect Suarez to be a better offensive player, but I wouldn't expect a material difference.
  18. But trading Duran for Paredes+ isn't pennies on the dollar, anywhere close to it.
  19. Bad when you get snow days that far south.
  20. Regardless of our other disagreements, I always felt your medical insight to be superb and useful.
  21. Assuming we trade Duran (or Abreu), I see it as 10 games each for Anthony, Ceddanne, and Abreu, 15 games subbing Mayer, and it could be 50 games platooning Yoshi. I don't think Yoshi needs a lot of platooning, but Andujar has roughed up lefties recently.
  22. Neither are good enough. I'd pass on Rengifo completely. But Andujar could be interesting if we trade Duran. He could platoon with Yoshi, and back up LF and 3B (poorly). And we've traditionally done well with rightly ex-Yankee OF..
  23. I'm an agnostic on Devers. But this is the same as in the political world. People on both sides dig their heels in, and will never ever change their minds.
  24. My nephew is going down to FL this morning. Has it ever been this cold down there?
  25. This is a problem for some of the fans. We don't know the RS l/t plans. If the FO thinks Romy can take the next step, or that they think KC will be our 2B next year, then it is what it is.
