We’re about the same amount as I would have the extension kick in after next year, so counting that it would be $145M/6. Anything more than that would be see you later.

We could have signed E Rod too, but we didn’t. We could have signed Betts, and extend Bogey, and Raffy, but that didn’t, or hasn’t happened either. I’m all for improving RF, and the D, but putting Dalbec in LF like you mentioned earlier, or putting Schwaber anywhere in the field won’t do that either.

Agree, and that is what no one ever talks about when people say get this guy, or that guy is whether they can handle playing in Boston, which is huge, and not everyone can. Slacker, Crawford, Agon, and Price were not fits, but took the money.

You’re right about Agon, but he was a bad fit in Boston like Crawford, and wanted out of town.

Everyone wants to trade Renfroe. Even if his salary gets bumped to 7M that is still pretty cheap for someone who hit 30+ HR, and had 96 RBI. He might not do that again, and I’m all for replacing him, but trading him won’t get you a whole heck of a lot, and 7M is still pretty cheap for 1 more year. Putting Dalbec in LF to me is a no no, and like trying to stick Swihart out there. The jury is still out on what you will get from Bobby D, and if and when Casas comes up then deal with it then. Money that you are still trying to sign Schwaber with needs to go to pitching, pitching, and more pitching.

The Sox have been bailed out twice by the Dodgers taking Agon, and Crawford off their hands, and taking Price, and I don’t know if they would get lucky a third time, so unless it’s for Raffy i don’t see them going real big anytime soon.

I don’t think the E Rod deal was a big deal. I was talking about signing one of the high priced SS that are out there, or a big extension for Bogey, or Raffy type deals.

I don’t think JH is as gung-ho as he was 10 years ago when it comes to spending money.

I took that as the kind of shopping they would be doing, and not how much money they would be spending. No dollar figure was mentioned.

I keep hearing the 40M mark as the amount the Red Sox have to spend this off season, but that is nothing more than speculation of some on here. Who knows what the amount will be. It could be more, and it could be less.

And you are basing your big FA signing, and trade on what? I basing my opinion on what the brass said at year end press conference, which was same blueprint as last year. I hope you are right, but hoping, and wishing won’t make it so.

Matz is a step down from E Rod, and if cost savings is the deciding factor, which is a good possibility then the Sox are heading in the wrong direction. True they made the post season last year, but they also came very close to being on the outside looking in.

I’m going by what Sam Kennedy said at the end of year press conference that the Red Sox were going to follow the same blueprint as last year, which to me means there won’t be any big long term contracts coming Boston’s way this off season, and no big trades despite all the hopes, and wishes of all the pundits on here.

I’m looking more into the Red Sox didn’t want to spend that kind of money aspect of things then if E Rod wanted out, which is a bad sign that the Sox will not open any wallets this off season.

They both have a lot to prove period. Houck at times looks lights out, and then loses it all of a sudden. I think he needs another pitch to be effective as a starter, and just has to be more consistent. Whitlock had a good season, but that is only doing it for 1 season, and only went a couple innings at a time most times given 3-4 days between appearances, so he’ll have to show what he can do going 5 innings. I think he needs another pitch to be an effective starter as well, so I think the jury is still out on him after just 1 year. -
I think this is a bad sign of things to come for the Sox. The fact that E Rod signed so quick looks like there wasn’t much negotiations back, and forth with the Sox, and he wanted out. If the Sox won’t spend on one of their own then I don’t see them spending for anyone else, which means bargain hunting like last year.
