    Then how did 8 losses come after the Sox were ahead, or tied in the 8th, and 9th inning? If the Red Sox had the best closer in the league I believe they wouldn’t be leading the league in blown saves, and have 8 more wins. Once again Cora, and Bloom are to blame for this at the moment a losing team.

    I don’t believe I said the closer is the only guy in the bullpen that counts, or on the entire team. The closer does count the most in the 9th inning with a 1 run lead, but you have to get to that point first. Both bullpens played a big role in the game tonight with the Red Sox keeping it to a 2 run game, and the Reds protecting a run, and 2 run lead some the Red Sox pen has had a hard time doing, and thus leading the league in blown saves.

    So leading the league in blown saves, and never trying Whitlock as the closer, or even Houck for that matter to you wouldn’t have made a huge impact? You don’t think either one is any good. I do, and I think Whitlock would have made a huge impact, and I blame Cora, and Bloom for that not happening.

    You should finish the sentence in so many words when you try to repeat what I say. Prospects are useless until they produce in a Red Sox uniform, or traded for someone who does. Sound familiar? Little bit different then how you tried to explain it.

    I don’t think Whitlock started all those games, but Whitlock’s replacement in the rotation seems to be the standard answer.

    How many games did Whitlock start in the blown saves in the 8th, and 9th inning games?

    You always want your questions answered when all I’m doing is offering an opinion just like everyone else. How is keeping Bogey, and Raffy trading away the farm? When did I say that I would trade away the farm for anyone? I don’t get that DD traded away the farm either away from here, and that is why I like to go to many different sources, and not just here. A first I heard only on here too that Bloom got Story to replace Schwarber. Interesting take. I’ve made it very clear that I don’t trust Bloom to put a good Red Sox team on the field especially if they loose all the guys on the last year of contracts, and Raffy, and I’m far from being alone especially away from here. What works for the Tampa fan base won’t work in Boston. I’m very well aware who has the checkbook, but Bloom, and Cora are not without blame.

    Making Whitlock the closer on opening day was the plan, and I believe 100% if that would have happened the Red Sox would have a better record right now. I never would have paid Mookie for two reasons, which has been gone over many times that he didn’t want to stay, and I don’t think anyone is worth that kind of money for that length of time. I’m just saying that how hard it is to replace that kind of talent?

    Now it’s a bullpen game, and the BP will decide who wins, and who loses.

    Mookie hasn’t been replaced, and it will be hard to replace Bogey, JD, and Raffy if it comes to that too. Do you think the majority of Red Sox fans are going to accept that?

    Moon you need to get out more often, and see what Red Sox fans are saying outside of this forum. It’s just like on here I’m in the minority of the opinion that Whitlock should be the closer, but outside of here it’s more the other way. Outside of here especially Bloom is nowhere near as popular, or his big plan of prospects prospects is as well received, so to waste major talents like I have mentioned to plan on guys who may, or may not be good ball players in Boston just doesn’t make sense to me. Bogey’s, Raffy’s, JD, and Mookies don’t grow on trees, or come along everyday.

    The biggest thing to me is that accepting a disappointing season, or two you’re also wasting away the talent of players like Bogey, Raffy, and JD, and that to me is not good baseball strategy, and listening to other different programs on radio, and TV I know lots of fans agree.

    Agree with most, but I don’t think most fans in Red Sox Nation will except any kind of extreme rebuild unless it produces immediate dividend’s especially if it includes losing fan favorite like Bogey, and Raffy after losing Mookie. Attendance is already down, and NESN ratings aren’t high either.

    Lots of the big money FA signed this past offseason have not worked out to well so far this season.

    Watching the Baseball Show after the Sox game last night and the #1 topic was the lack of a Red Sox bullpen. Watching a show I’m on now, and they are talking about the same thing the BP, and how Bloom just keeps recycling the same pitchers to Worcester, and back like the Bra Man, The Sour Man, and Valdez some after only a day, or so. Bullpen, Bullpen, Bullpen is the biggest problem for a losing record, and it’s being talked about everywhere. It was just brought up 8 losses after being tied, or having a lead in the 8th inning, and still yet at least Houck hasn’t been given a shot at closing.

    No Moon I don’t want you, or anyone on here to agree with me on anything. I get plenty of that on all the other venues I visit. I keep on saying my opinion has nothing to do with if I think he can be a good starter, or not, but 100% on where I think he would be the most valuable right now this year. I keep on asking what the Red Sox record would be if only half the saves hadn’t been blown. I don’t even know if Whitlock could be an effective closer, or not, but the fact that he hasn’t been tried on a team leading the league in blown saves, and having a sub 500 record just doesn’t sound like smart baseball judgement to me. If Sale hadn’t gotten hurt, and Houck had been vaxed I don’t believe Whitlock would be starting now. I know most on here want Whitlock to start, because that is Cora’s, and Bloom’s master plan, but not having a reliable closer is not working. Cora, and Bloom do not walk on water, and in some cases steps in puddles.

    Last year is long gone, and has nothing to do with this year, and if it did the Sox wouldn’t have a sub 500 record. 2018 had not carry over to 2019, and 2019 had no carry over to 2020, and 2020 certainly had no carry over to 2021. Once again what would the Red Sox record be a present time if only half the saves hadn’t been blown? Playoffs! Did someone say playoffs?

    Short sample size for Whitlock being the closer, and how many of those blown saves were in the 9th inning closer role like opening day this year when Whitlock was brought in to get a 4 inning save. If the Red Sox had just cut the blown saves in half this year what would their record be? It has nothing to do in my opinion if Whitlock has starter potential, or not, but what the biggest need for him this year., so if you say it doesn’t do any good to save Whitlock for a save situation, but it does to start him when the team so far has a 3-4 record in his starts this year then I guess you don’t care about the Sox win-loss record This Year.

    None of this is relevant, because neither has been put in the closers role to try. It’s not a question about the best pitcher being a starter, but what is the biggest need, and who is best at the biggest need, and if the closer is the biggest need, and Whitlock is the best pitcher than to me he should be the closer.

    What part of Whitlock being the closer don’t you understand? Put Houck back in the rotation like he was to start the season what part of that don’t you understand. The Red Sox lead the league in blown saves, and are a sub 500 team. That is a fact, and the way things are being done now is not working. The losses that were the results of the blown saves are gone forever, so what doesn’t make sense is doing the status quo.

    We’ve gone through this payroll stuff many times. Most of the payroll has come before the Bloom arrival. Let’s see where things stand to start the season 2023. That will be the telltale.

    Whitlock is not helping the starting rotation, and putting him as the closer hopefully would fix that problem. Put Houck back in the rotation like he was before he was pulled, because of not being vaxed. Things were working better earlier in the season when Houck was starting, and Whitlock was in the pen. 10.5 games back of what? The only things people should worry about is getting back to 500, and nothing else.
