    Watching the Baseball Show after the Sox game last night and the #1 topic was the lack of a Red Sox bullpen. Watching a show I’m on now, and they are talking about the same thing the BP, and how Bloom just keeps recycling the same pitchers to Worcester, and back like the Bra Man, The Sour Man, and Valdez some after only a day, or so. Bullpen, Bullpen, Bullpen is the biggest problem for a losing record, and it’s being talked about everywhere. It was just brought up 8 losses after being tied, or having a lead in the 8th inning, and still yet at least Houck hasn’t been given a shot at closing.

    No Moon I don’t want you, or anyone on here to agree with me on anything. I get plenty of that on all the other venues I visit. I keep on saying my opinion has nothing to do with if I think he can be a good starter, or not, but 100% on where I think he would be the most valuable right now this year. I keep on asking what the Red Sox record would be if only half the saves hadn’t been blown. I don’t even know if Whitlock could be an effective closer, or not, but the fact that he hasn’t been tried on a team leading the league in blown saves, and having a sub 500 record just doesn’t sound like smart baseball judgement to me. If Sale hadn’t gotten hurt, and Houck had been vaxed I don’t believe Whitlock would be starting now. I know most on here want Whitlock to start, because that is Cora’s, and Bloom’s master plan, but not having a reliable closer is not working. Cora, and Bloom do not walk on water, and in some cases steps in puddles.

    Last year is long gone, and has nothing to do with this year, and if it did the Sox wouldn’t have a sub 500 record. 2018 had not carry over to 2019, and 2019 had no carry over to 2020, and 2020 certainly had no carry over to 2021. Once again what would the Red Sox record be a present time if only half the saves hadn’t been blown? Playoffs! Did someone say playoffs?

    Short sample size for Whitlock being the closer, and how many of those blown saves were in the 9th inning closer role like opening day this year when Whitlock was brought in to get a 4 inning save. If the Red Sox had just cut the blown saves in half this year what would their record be? It has nothing to do in my opinion if Whitlock has starter potential, or not, but what the biggest need for him this year., so if you say it doesn’t do any good to save Whitlock for a save situation, but it does to start him when the team so far has a 3-4 record in his starts this year then I guess you don’t care about the Sox win-loss record This Year.

    None of this is relevant, because neither has been put in the closers role to try. It’s not a question about the best pitcher being a starter, but what is the biggest need, and who is best at the biggest need, and if the closer is the biggest need, and Whitlock is the best pitcher than to me he should be the closer.

    What part of Whitlock being the closer don’t you understand? Put Houck back in the rotation like he was to start the season what part of that don’t you understand. The Red Sox lead the league in blown saves, and are a sub 500 team. That is a fact, and the way things are being done now is not working. The losses that were the results of the blown saves are gone forever, so what doesn’t make sense is doing the status quo.

    We’ve gone through this payroll stuff many times. Most of the payroll has come before the Bloom arrival. Let’s see where things stand to start the season 2023. That will be the telltale.

    Whitlock is not helping the starting rotation, and putting him as the closer hopefully would fix that problem. Put Houck back in the rotation like he was before he was pulled, because of not being vaxed. Things were working better earlier in the season when Houck was starting, and Whitlock was in the pen. 10.5 games back of what? The only things people should worry about is getting back to 500, and nothing else.

    No one knows that Whitlock will be a good starting pitcher, or not, but he is effective in the BP. I could care less about value at the moment, and only about what’s going on with the Red Sox having the most blown saves in the league, and a losing record to go along with it. Right now the value is being in the BP.

    What’s wrong with Whitlock as a starter? Nothing except that the Red Sox lead the league in blown saves, and Whitlock could be the closer, which is the teams biggest need. I repeat the Red Sox lead the league in blown saves, and the Sox are only 3-4 in Whitlocks starts. To me he’s wasted in the rotation.

    The trade wasn’t the problem to me, because I think Mookie wanted out of town, but what Bloom got back in return is.

    Red Sox Nation is not patient enough for any long term development plan, and especially if you see the Mookie, Bogey, and possibly Raffy leave in the process.

    The Red Sox continue to blow games by the BP, but still no change, so the big question is why? Why does Cora continue to not give Houck at shot as closer? My stance is well known that I think Whitlock should be the closer, but to not give Houck a shot as a second option is a head scratcher.

    A longer enough leash? Does Bloom deserve one? The Mookie trade looks worse, and worse every day.

    Someone on here said Cora was a magician with the bullpen, but that magic act has been canceled. It’s true that Cora can’t make a mediocre pitcher pitch better, but he can make better use of what little value he does, or should have in the bullpen namely Houck, and Whitlock. Leading the league in blown saves, and Friday night being the last to me is on both Bloom, and Cora.

    Where is all the we got Bloom, and we got Cora talk like that gives the Red Sox an advantage over all the other teams? Where is all the Bloom knows what he’s doing, and I trust Bloom, because I don’t trust Bloom, and I don’t think he does know what he’s doing. Boston isn’t Tampa, and what may have worked in Tampa doesn’t mean it will work in Boston. Maybe he can keep reshuffling the Sour Man, and Bra Man, and Valdez over, and over that sounds like a sound strategy.

    And Bloom’s solution was to send Bra Man, and the Sour Man down, and then called them right back. Not to mention Valdez too.

    Last year at this time the Red Sox had a better bullpen. Barnes was a good closer, and Whitlock was in the pen pitching good too. Even Otto wasn’t bad at the time. This year. Meh.

    No at the time I thought it was a good deal, but the bad part today is that the Red Sox do not have anything close to a good closer, and that is on Bloom.

    Bloom said it was a great day for the Red Sox when Barnes signed the extension.

    Bloom’s contract extension is what’s stopping that.

    Because to them playing piggyback is more important.

    I’m not counting on Sale to be anything more than how he came back last year, and not the Chris Sale of old.

    Everyone goes Ga Ga over the farm, but what are they until they produce in a Red Sox uniform, or traded foe someone who does, but unless those two things happen they are just the farm, nothing more, and nothing less. Having said that you do need to have the farm produce some, because you just can’t go out, and buy a team. The 2018 team had plenty of help from the farm. I’m for keeping all of the Bogey, Raffy, Story, and even JD for the right price, and years, and hopefully at least Cases can produce soon, and then fill with mid level, and hopefully some pitching can come up, and help. If not the team won’t get much better, because you can’t count on Frail, and you still don’t know what you will get from Houck, and Whitlock. Pitching is always the key. Evol would be brought back too for the right price. Duran could hit 400 for the Woo Sox, but how does that helps the Red Sox unless some other team likes him enough to trade the Sox some young pitcher for, or is thrown in as part of a trade.
