  1. It's possible he may be adjusting to some nagging physical issue that prevents him from using the old stance. Ballplayers are never 100%, and always play hurt, but unless they end up on the IL, aches and pains remain undisclosed to the public (lest a merciless foe finds a way to exploit them).
  2. My cousin the pitcher used to say when he walked the leadoff batter that we should just let him circle the bases and score -- because they do 99% of the time anyway. And then he could start fresh again with no one on.
  3. Raffy says the next thing you know, they'll want me to shoot threes for the Cs!
  4. Middlebrooks on NESN feels he has to explain why Duran can't hit this year, by constantly saying that "he's uncomfortable up there." Yup, and I'm uncomfortable over here, watching every one of those at bats...
  5. I'm not in love with bunting, just in hate with strikeouts. What do analytics say are the odds of advancing a baserunner on a swing and a miss?
  6. Right. And whatever you do, if Blake Snell strikes out Betts-Seager-Turner six straight times in six ABs in the World Series, don't let him face them again!
  7. That graphic is chilling. Like looking at the last photo of a picnic right before the hurricane hit.
  8. Can't blame the Red Sox batters' pitiful approach to advancing baserunners on the Cora family. The Cora brothers weren't All-Star hitters, but they knew how to get it done. In their careers, Alex Cora and brother Joey had 145 sacrifice bunts. AC had 61, Joey 84. Boston's ineptitude at moving baserunners is a company-wide blueprint. It's a front office analytical philosophy that predates Breslow. The Red Sox have 47 total sac bunts this decade (2020-2025).
  9. Even better. John Henry just flew his private jet right into the clubhouse for a meeting.
  10. I'm ok with Weissert. He's one of the rare Sox pitchers who hasn't made either a throwing error or chucked a wild pitch. But he'd better do one or the other soon, because I think it's required for Boston pitchers...
  11. Plus, he wears his pants at the knee and shows off his RED sox. If I ran the team, I'd have a dress code so every player and uniformed personnel had to show their colors. You can get those stirrups off my lawn, but all the clubs would look better showing their socks at least up to their shinsplints.
  12. Fast forward to the final 10 seconds of the deadline, and it's guaranteed the Red Sox will land the 157th-best available reliever on the market.
  13. Good post. I think a lot of fans are ready for a change from the weekly: good win/bad loss/good win/coughed-up, blown-save, terrible loss Red Sox. I was primed for big roster changes after this 12-game stretch vs. good pitching that ends today with Tarik Cy Skubal. But with an upset win, the Mediocrities can salvage a 6-6 stretch, and if they lose like they're supposed to, will only limp home at 5-7. I thought Thursday's off-day would be prime for the call-ups of Anthony and/or Mayer. Friday begins a long homestand, the new City Connects, and Crochet vs. Sale. But I read on another forum that the "safe" date to call-up Anthony and Mayer and secure an additional year of control is now mid-June. CAN THE RED SOX WAIT THAT LONG TO PUT THEIR BEST TEAM ON THE FIELD?
  14. Remember, Duran led the team in strikeouts last year, even in his All-Star MVP season, but he also led the majors in plate appearances. What I don't recall is him whiffing on so many Strike Threes on fastballs above the zone. I don't have stats for that, just eyes -- but I did look up what has seemed automatic lately: Duran fanning leading off the game... 31% so far, compared to 26% last season (so pitchers have edited the book on him slightly... his overall K-rate is just above 21% in both '24 and '25).
  15. The thing is -- for fans like us who appreciate the importance of defense -- we haven't seen a decent fielding first baseman in Boston since who, Moreland? First may seem to some posters the easiest position, but it's also the spot on the diamond where the most "automatic" outs better be made -- and when you try to fit round pegs into square pizza boxes, they get cheese all over them: Toro ranges half-way to second for a grounder, and nobody covers... Toro gets his feet twisted on a ball down the line, and can't make a smooth flip. It's noticeable and unacceptable. Like Max or someone said, the Sox weren't getting production out of 1B by Casas before he was hurt. But at least get someone who knows how to play there who won't Franchy the team under .500...
  16. At least there's consistency on the forums. Dedicated fans type daily posts and never have a bad take. Just ask any one of us and we'll be able to defend the opinions of the three most valuable contributors on the board: me, myself and I-phone.
  17. Starting to worry about Campbell. Not his slump or that umps make brutal strike calls on him regularly because he's a rookie, but whether he can stay in the majors with his batting style. His weight transfer moves his whole body on every pitch, and all it takes for MLB catchers to check the check is a flared nostril -- which 9 out of 10 first-base umps can detect on an angle 90 feet away.
  18. Raffy just read this and said the next thing you know, they'll want me to pitch.
