  1. Not every out is the same, and anybody who says "an out is an out" is not a Red Sox fan actually watching the games, especially at the ends of games. Baserunners can advance and even score on ground-outs, fly outs, even foul pop-outs. But strikeouts suck to watch, and suck the life out of rallies. The only person on offense that a K advances is the batter taking the walk of shame back to the dugout.
  2. Burly, Hairy, Whoa. Blood, Sweat, Fears. Sixty-two million dollars.
  3. And you're setting all your Sales in the direction of the blowhards in the front office. No need for fossil fuels tonight. Just fossils like me watching...
  4. "They're on pace to rejoin the rotation right after the Trade Deadline -- they'll be better starters than any we can acquire," President Kennedy will say in July... "There's always a fine line between competitive and incompetent," CBO Breslow will spew, "and it lies in prefixes and suffixes. When you analyze the core semantically, it's all about compet." Red Sox Analytics Dept. report: "Research shows back when starting pitchers expected to throw complete games that Williams and DiMaggio had higher career OPS facing starters the 4th time, compared to their 1st, 2nd and 3rd at bats. Since our batters can't hit bullpens in late innings, we'll emphasize taking more bad swings early to keep starters in games as long as possible." "Just gotta get better at takin cara these kids," said Cora. "Right?"
  5. As for the bullpen, have to agree with Cora; need better execution. But forget about lethal injections or firing squads. Lock them in a movie cinema and force them to watch the big screen projecting continuous loops of Red Sox batters trying to move the ghost runner in extra innings. If that doesn't do it, force each reliever to stand in the batter's box without helmets, elbow pads and shin guards, and face all the other guys from the pen. In the very least, they'll all hop around with broken toes from dirtball sweepers and won't be able to escape getting swallowed by ground crew tarps the next time there's a rain delay.
  6. Or it could've happened at the end of last season, in offseason training, in Spring Training, or for more established $300 million dollar types, Spring Feigning.
  7. It's possible he may be adjusting to some nagging physical issue that prevents him from using the old stance. Ballplayers are never 100%, and always play hurt, but unless they end up on the IL, aches and pains remain undisclosed to the public (lest a merciless foe finds a way to exploit them).
  8. My cousin the pitcher used to say when he walked the leadoff batter that we should just let him circle the bases and score -- because they do 99% of the time anyway. And then he could start fresh again with no one on.
  9. Raffy says the next thing you know, they'll want me to shoot threes for the Cs!
  10. Middlebrooks on NESN feels he has to explain why Duran can't hit this year, by constantly saying that "he's uncomfortable up there." Yup, and I'm uncomfortable over here, watching every one of those at bats...
  11. I'm not in love with bunting, just in hate with strikeouts. What do analytics say are the odds of advancing a baserunner on a swing and a miss?
  12. Right. And whatever you do, if Blake Snell strikes out Betts-Seager-Turner six straight times in six ABs in the World Series, don't let him face them again!
  13. That graphic is chilling. Like looking at the last photo of a picnic right before the hurricane hit.
  14. Can't blame the Red Sox batters' pitiful approach to advancing baserunners on the Cora family. The Cora brothers weren't All-Star hitters, but they knew how to get it done. In their careers, Alex Cora and brother Joey had 145 sacrifice bunts. AC had 61, Joey 84. Boston's ineptitude at moving baserunners is a company-wide blueprint. It's a front office analytical philosophy that predates Breslow. The Red Sox have 47 total sac bunts this decade (2020-2025).
  15. Even better. John Henry just flew his private jet right into the clubhouse for a meeting.
  16. I'm ok with Weissert. He's one of the rare Sox pitchers who hasn't made either a throwing error or chucked a wild pitch. But he'd better do one or the other soon, because I think it's required for Boston pitchers...
  17. Plus, he wears his pants at the knee and shows off his RED sox. If I ran the team, I'd have a dress code so every player and uniformed personnel had to show their colors. You can get those stirrups off my lawn, but all the clubs would look better showing their socks at least up to their shinsplints.
  18. Fast forward to the final 10 seconds of the deadline, and it's guaranteed the Red Sox will land the 157th-best available reliever on the market.
  19. Good post. I think a lot of fans are ready for a change from the weekly: good win/bad loss/good win/coughed-up, blown-save, terrible loss Red Sox. I was primed for big roster changes after this 12-game stretch vs. good pitching that ends today with Tarik Cy Skubal. But with an upset win, the Mediocrities can salvage a 6-6 stretch, and if they lose like they're supposed to, will only limp home at 5-7. I thought Thursday's off-day would be prime for the call-ups of Anthony and/or Mayer. Friday begins a long homestand, the new City Connects, and Crochet vs. Sale. But I read on another forum that the "safe" date to call-up Anthony and Mayer and secure an additional year of control is now mid-June. CAN THE RED SOX WAIT THAT LONG TO PUT THEIR BEST TEAM ON THE FIELD?
