  1. Favorite War Movies: Cora -- Platoon. Breslow -- Saving Private Ryan. Anthony -- Inglorious Basterds (the guy with the bat) Mayer -- MASH Casas -- Stripes Pitching Staff -- The Dirty Dozen Devers -- The Great Escape
  2. At this point I'd rather they just hang onto to Little Puppy and see how their Number One everyday prospect progresses in 2026. I just don't think -- even if Breslow trades for a #2 starter -- that the Sox will spend what it takes to sign enough free agents to make them a legitimate contender next year. I hope I'm wrong, but I can see Boston pushing pitching and young homegrown regulars instead as their Great Pumpkins for next Halloween. If Arias becomes an above-average shortstop like Soxprospects says he can be, then Boston will need him when the true window opens as Brez continues to build around pitching. Story's last season as a Red Sox will be '27, and who knows where or if Mayer will be playing by then: 2B, 3B, IL??? Plus, one of the talking heads on MLB Channel last night said the Twins might just keep Ryan and Lopez anyway and go for it in the weak AL Central.
  3. So this offseason the Sox only need to add two more Mayers and two more Anthonys: Oscar Mayer, Meyer Lansky, Anthony Michael Hall as Farmer Ted from Sixteen Candles and Anthony Hopkins as the all-powerful omnipotent Odin.
  4. The most painful was Rice -- on the team, but didn't play in '75 WS because Vern Ruhle broke his hand. Evans played in both and played well; they weren't his fault.
  5. I was just thinking a roster spot. If -- as some speculate -- the Sox trade two outfielders, there could be a role for a bounceback prospect...
  6. Worcester gets a lot of bad weather, so they sent him back hoping for an electrical storm strong enough for Igor to harness some bolts of energy for the Assistant VP mad scientists to use like the year before. That didn't happen, but Breslow recently said Campbell has already had a monstrous offseason working out -- so don't be surprised if he snaps off his chains and goes on a rampage in Florida.
  7. Tough list. Of course, I immediately thought of the '75 and '86 Sox. Here's another: the '68 Cardinals: up 3 games to 1, with a 3-2 Game 5 lead going into the bottom of the 7th in Detroit. Tigers had 8 outs to go... with one down, Lolich singled to start off the winning rally -- then Kaline eventually delivered a bases-loaded single to knock in two and take the lead of what would be a 5-3 win. The key play of the game was when Willie Horton threw out Lou Brock at home in the 5th inning because Brock didn't slide... Lolich was the Ohtani-Yamamoto of this Series. He won three games, including the finale vs. Gibson, and also homered in Game 2 to drive in the second and only other run he needed in an 8-1 W.
  8. Well-though out, Alex, though I don't necessarily agree moving KC to LF is setting him up for failure. As much as we have doubts about Campbell, we should also wonder what's up with an org's eval system that a year ago handed him a starting job in the big leagues he clearly wasn't ready for. We do know that those who tried him out at first base last summer have determined that's not for him, either. Maybe the Sox are just making KC an outfielder to regain his value and showcase him as a trade chip? You didn't mention Garcia as an additional OF trade candidate, though maybe Boston will decide to keep him as a platoon partner initially with Abreu. After all, Password has hit more homers than anyone in the system the past two seasons, including Campbell when he went off...
  9. But the timing of some of those decisions damaged the overall record (this isn't second-guessing, since a lot of us were first-guessing at the time): There is a case to be made that anointing KC as a starting MLB infielder over Mayer -- who outplayed him in ST -- resulted in more losses through the first two months; And nobody is saying that leaving Anthony in the minors during that same time didn't detract from the parent club's overall record. Any big league roster is better by including the best hitter in the organization. I'm just glad a lot of promising youngsters got to experience a taste of the postseason, even if it was from the top step of the dugout...
  10. Arias is the perfect guy for a team like the Twins, who realize they don't have the infield of a true contender, especially since they dumped Correa. If the Twins instead had the exact same roster as the Red Sox, they'd also realize they need a club's #1 prospect to rebuild, since Boston doesn't have the infield of a true contender, either (currently, with only one MLB regular -- Trevor Story). The point is, the Joe Ryan talk is meaningless if the Sox don't resign or replace Bregman, and find a healthy first baseman and second baseman who can hold down big league jobs and contribute. We're not just a #2 starting pitcher away from deep October baseball. But we are about 3 months away before Boras lets his clients sign, so prepare for futile arguments with clueless posters like me for the next quarter year.
  11. He got lucky the year before and faced a lot of crooked swingers.
  12. Andre Dawson: 67.2 WAR in Montreal and Chicago, -1.3 WAR in Boston. What the--- ?
  13. The real problem with Suarez in his 30s are his 162-game averages for the past four seasons: 34 Home Runs but .318 OBP and 201 STRIKEOUTS... ... that's a lot of nothing for not very much all.
  14. Maybe a guy just needs a change of mirrors. Or a storefront window at night. Or a pond on a clear day.
  15. We need about 2 times 2 big bats. Right now, we have 2 medium bats in Story and Abreu: 25 HRs and 22 HRs -- the only two who hit as many as 20 last year.
  16. That does it -- Monegro's perfect for Boston. If the Red Sox don't protect Monegro, they'll draft him in the Rule 5 and keep him all season just to pay him to rehab.
  17. Good point about Mayer, even though we still have no idea if this guy can ever play a full season. The issue with "making" Suarez or Schwarber or Campbell or Franchy a first baseman is that it doesn't upgrade an already-crappy defense. It does not improve the Red Sox as a serious contender. We have enough bad fits with Yoshida and his contract. I know you value defense as much as I do, and that's why we need new guys who have shown they are at least competent. Bichette looked good at 2B in the World Series. I don't like him at SS. He's the best all-around hitter in free agency.
  18. If the Sox really want to improve, they have to spend large on two guys. Resign Bregman, sign Alonso, trade for Ryan. Resign Bregman, sign Bichette, trade for Ryan. Resign Bregman, sign Cease, trade for Diaz. Sign Bichette and Alonso, trade for Ryan.
  19. Isn't he one of the nonsense leaders preparing to kick the laborers?
  20. Nothing personal, but I don't want any of these guys. Torres and Polanco aren't good second baseman in their 30s, and don't hit consistently like Bichette to trust them on longterm contracts. Kim would be a bandaid, and we have plenty of them. Rengifo only had the worst OPS of any qualifying batter in the AL. We're Mayered at 2B.
  21. 6.62607015 × 10-34 m2 kg / s ... rounded off: 6.6 x 10-34 m2 kg / s... ... translated: 6.6 k(e)gs x 10 sand dune breaks - mom's ... excuses: I was at that all-weekend party at the beach in the 80s, and made it home safely, but a wide turn into the driveway took out mom's mailbox.
  22. To ensure Kennedy can't ever lie to the public, Henry actually does give his CBOs the combo to the safe. But then the next day he changes the combination. He uses an algorithm of password generators, morse codes, thumb prints and eyeball recognition refracted through reading glasses at +2.50 power. Then he reverses the birthday of his cigars and plays it backwards until it says, "I buried Paul."
  23. They have the budget to resign Bregman AND sign Alonso or Bichette AND a #2 OR trade for a #2 AND extend him. But we'll all believe it when we see it. More likely, they'll sign just one of those big names and tout improvements from the youth movement to sell tickets all winter.
