  1. The Jays also had 320 less strikeouts than Boston -- that was the main reason their offense was better. The Sox need to make more contact, not less. If they lose Bregman, they're not paying Bichette more to replace him. Brez will have to trade Tolle or Early for Marte just to break even (forget Suarez, who's a bigger whiffer than anybody already on the team). This week is our CBO's time to shine, swinging some swaps that may define the next season -- especially if ownership is chopping up his debit card.
  2. That may be exactly what the front office is hoping Red Sox fans will be chanting if Boston fails to land any big free agent bats. Swing a trade for another pitcher, solve the outfield logjam, and save kajillions on DHs you don't want still hanging around when they're older. Of course, Cora will also have to hire 80-year old Rod Carew out of retirement to teach the batting order how to bunt, cuz they ain't homering to any playoffs...
  3. He may be laying low until he can officially change his last name. I'm half serious; he's legendary for achieving ultimate success for two franchises known for decades as lovable losers -- and after he reached those pinnacles, some pundits wondered if he'd be a viable candidate for political office... ... at least for Manfred's job, which comes with as much bs as donkeys and elephants.
  4. It was 10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10 -- that's 10 Asst. VPs who have been entrenched in the front office since at least when Raffy came up as a 20-year-old. They all knew all about him: his personality, and how he'd react when they intentionally wouldn't prepare him for the Bregman acquisition. And poor Devers, by pouting and refusing to bend -- and better yet, calling them out in public -- "forced" the org to wipe that albatross contract clean off the books! Devious, for sure. Unbelievable? What's more hard to fathom: that out of an entire overloaded office of the best Ivy League brains a billionaire can collect, not one of these Einsteins could forsee this scenario? Not one genius Red Sox Exec felt the need to reach out to the team's sensitive best hitter and highest paid player with the longest tenure BEFORE signing his asterisking replacement? Put it another way: if they were all suddenly that dumb, how did they keep their jobs after losing their one star home run hitter?
  5. I like this. The Yankees are always all in, but they're also desperate to win in the Judge Era. So they sign Cole, Rodon, Fried -- top of the rotation guys at the top of the free agent market every year. They also trade a boatload of prospects for Soto, another generational talent. Sucks for them that he left for the Mets, but it was worth it to make the World Series. And no regrets dealing those prospects, because the Yankees will just fill those positions when necessary by signing other guys. If there's a bad signing, cut your losses and move on. Boston can also afford to do all of the above, especially now in the Roman Empire.
  6. Maybe a better title on an article about the Red Sox infield right now should be Depth: Check Minus... at least until the Winter Meetings are over.
  7. I was about to say the best alternative to giving Alonso big bucks would be Okamoto, since he's known to also have an excellent glove. Then I learned Kaz' agent is Boras -- so he ain't signing til pitchers and catchers are in Florida... unless he's vastly overpaid... like Yoshida. Dang yo.
  8. Absolutely -- and it wasn't just the dumb Bronx series where the longball could've changed everything. ALL the other playoff rounds had games decided by HRs. It got to the point that even an ex-pitcher like Breslow finally admitted that in order to go deep in October, teams have to hit big flies deep into the night.
  9. Lay off the Count Chocula. Actually, I wouldn't mind trading for Contreras, but I'm not including any money because 1). Bloom's trying to dump his contract -- so should be paying us; and 2). we may subsidize part of Yoshida's contract to anyone BUT Bloom, since he's Chaim's mistake in the last place!
  10. Prediction: they'll sign Bregman and trade a pitcher for Yandy Diaz and be done. Tampa likes Red Sox pitchers with potential as much as Boston likes Tommy John underwear: Dobbins or Crawford or Harrison, buh-bye. One of those guys has to be Jalen Beeks-Jeffrey Springs-Zach Littell enough...
  11. I think you nailed it, Doobslav59: exactly one big signing -- Bregman, Bichette or Alonso -- and a blockbuster trade of one or two #5-10 starting pitchers for the other missing infielder. The rotation is set #1-4 with Crochet, Gray, Bello and Oviedo.
  12. You know a proposal is bad when the thread evolves quickly into comparisons of poster substance abuse. Feds take note: stringent talksox testing confirms that none of us do drugs of any kind. Speaking for myself, I've never abused addictive stuff like nicotine or caffeine. Dabbled in, but never abused... though alcohol once abused me (or was it twice).
  13. Oviedo threw 177 innings two years ago before he needed Tommy John. Now he's back with a rising fastball. You know how many Red Sox had 177 IP in 2025? The answer is the number of hooks it takes to Crochet a blanket. Johan's our new Numba Foe.
  14. Bongslav59, be good now. Kimmi is back. And I agree there's no way Brez gives up the money AND draft picks for Schwarbbombs... ... unless we're going full throttle, all-in, Dodgers or Bust, here we come! (we don't even know if Abreu or Mayer can hit lefties yet)
  15. 11.4 PERCENT? That right there is why young people are buying less beer -- they either pass out or get arrested before they can drink another round.
  16. Stout goes good with brownies, too -- without the pot. Though as a retired teacher, I can imagine a lot of folks these days finishing breakfast with a gummy... to take the edge off their coffees.
  17. I agree with your points, and as a loyal fan supportive of the Red Sox with my devotion and hard-earned dollars, I expect and deserve the same respect from the organization in return. I'm not the least ungrateful for the glory ownership brought from 2004 to 2018. But I'm also not elitist or greedy since then... just a hopeful fan, always looking forward to watching my favorites compete and improve to maybe make a legitimate run at another title. The 80s were great with my first wife, and I'm glad for the experience. But I didn't sit around at the end of the crappy 90s satisfied with the good old days. It was time to move on, and have something new to look forward to.
  18. Because of talent or contract obligations? Hmmm... maybe someday they'll battle each other in Home Run Derby at the All-Star Game (the celebrity softball game in Hollywood).
  19. Garcia was the Red Sox 2025 Minor League Offensive Player of the Year. What did he do to offend Breslow? Or do clubs give awards to prospects to hype their tradebait resumes?
  20. Thumbs down? No wonder you're struggling with jogging.
  21. Pitching carried the Sox to the '25 playoffs, but that included a career year by Chapman and a solid comeback by Giolito, before he broke down and couldn't start in the Bronx. The latter is probably gone, replaced by Gray, while we pray we'll again be happy with Chappy. But let's get right down to it: the line-up the Red Sox ran out there in the '25 playoffs was easily the most impotent batting order Boston has ever featured in any postseason of my 60 years as a fan. Even if Anthony develops into an All-Star, the offense needs major upgrades for it to be a true contender. And unless Breslow is going to swing trades all week for legit bats that offer both contact and power at 1B, 2B and 3B, not to mention DH, then Henry is going to have to OK spending a billion bucks on free agents. Which one of those is more likely? So what's the sense of giving up the two best pitching prospects this club has produced since Papelbon and Lester?
  22. My son was upset the Sox traded the prospect who hit more homers the past two years than Roman Anthony. But I told him the team with the third-highest revenue that is all about winning championships doesn't need Password's HRs, because they're going to sign Alonso or Schwarber AND Bregman or Bichette. And then he got really mad at me.
  23. Can we all agree IF the Red Sox trade Tolle or Early next week (or this winter) in a package for a presumed upgrade in the starting rotation, that means they are going for it in 2026? If that happens -- and we welcome Ryan, Ragans or someone comparable to the squad -- then the Sox absolutely positively HAVE to sign either Bregman or Bichette to hit behind Anthony, AND Alonso or Schwarber to hit home runs and drive them all in. Not one big bat, but two: 1. Bregman or Bichette; 2. Alonso or Schwarber. If they don't get two of those four, then the line-up won't contend with the big dogs in the postseason -- so don't bother losing Tolle or Early. Brez can still deal Duran or Abreu for the best possible return, but that swap will be done with an eye on 2027... Meanwhile, please don't tell me THE THIRD-BEST GENERATOR OF REVENUE in Major League Baseball can't afford to SIGN TWO TOP FREE AGENTS IN THE SAME DAMN WINTER (it insults my artificial ignorance... now, was it Barzini or Tattaglia?)
  24. Must be a typo. My screen says the Brewers would give two relievers for three years of Duran in his prime... but nowhere in the proposal could I find where they include one year of Peralta.
