  1. It shouldn't even exist until we see if Henry will let him spend on or trade for top of the rotation starters. If Breslow is spotted at any flea markets or garage sales, then maybe someone should start a thread called "Sell the Red Sox"
  2. This is my point about Anthony or Mayer, or even Teel, if he somehow gets a call-up by midseason. All three are hyped by both the Red Sox and fans like us as future big league stars... not just prospects who'll make the majors. None of Boston's players on the parent club at catcher, shortstop or in the outfield are All-Stars. But all have flaws, and deficient tools of some sort... Last winter, when Bloom told Red Sox Nation, "You know what's coming!" he didn't mean more mediocrity. Then again, maybe he was so far off, they decided to can him...
  3. At least with his limited range, he wouldn't get to airmail many throws. And he wouldn't even go to his right, lest he step in something Raffy spit. Yabadaba-don't.
  4. So Bloom was either giving him the finger or thumbs down. Or was Chaim running his finger across his throat during a staredown...
  5. Dubon instead of Thornburg? Think the worst defensive clowns could've used a guy nominated for Gold Gloves at two positions?
  6. Favorite bat of my youth: perfectly-balanced, 32-inch Louisville Slugger Cesar Cedeno signature model with the dark, wood-grain oval rings down the barrel. It was a sad day when that cracked.
  7. They just want you to know they were in on everybody -- and anybody not interested for whatever reasons -- faith, family, franks and steins... well, those peeps just weren't cut out for Boston, and the Sox don't need ingrates. Not for the privilege of running the 15th top spender in baseball.
  8. Which one is called up first? In a normal, non-contending year, I'd say the catcher gets a cup of coffee in September (there's always room for a back-up on the bench or in the bullpen). But if a new boss shakes up half the roster to go for it, sheer talent could be rushed, especially if the guy opens eyes in big league camp and grapefruit games.
  9. You can debate whatever you want, but I won't disparage your opinion. For instance, if your observation is that two pitchers look similar on TV, I can't tell you you're wrong -- but if I have a different perspective, like standing in the batter's box against each of them, I can add that to the discussion.
  10. Yours, too. Hopefully, you'll consider some of what you see on forums as just posters' opinions -- and not always people arguing.
  11. I could say the same for Duvall and Duran in center... (and Masa in left, Raffy at third, no one at second, Houses on first -- who did I miss? oh ya, any pitcher that has to throw to a pizza box)
  12. But... if everything just went right... we could've played on the waterfront. Insteada being bums.
  13. I know -- what's my problem, actually watching the games? I should turn off the TV and just listen to radio broadcasts. Differences between pitchers are easier to detect, based on the pop of the catcher's mitt and crack of the bat.
  14. Good point. Eovaldi would've had to pitch to less contact in bEantown, shred a few more ligaments and tendons by midseason, and turn into another Boston bum arm.
  15. Mondesi will return after the next trade deadline. And the Sox will predict he'll be just as good as any other Mondesi they could acquire.
  16. But he's great now... while the Red Sox aren't even good.
  17. From watching Nola in the playoffs, I'd stay away from him; his curve could be crushable vs. AL Beasts -- and for the cost, I'd rather the Sox sign Lorenzen (as a #3), who has similar stuff. Montgomery is the prize lefty after Snell... but his price could rise in the World Series.
  18. It's hard to appreciate him as a prospect until we actually see him competing; the only consensus is that he's a "pure hitter." And 5'9"... ... soxprospect report: "solid-average raw power with the potential for more as he fills out... average arm, average speed." Sounds like a righty Yoshida.
  19. Don't forget his best move -- he moved out of his office last month.
  20. You can't say that again... it's not repeatable!
  21. Gammons cried when Lou Gorman gave them Bagwell. I seethed.
  22. Good-hitting team signs injury-prone Cy Young starter, but is led instead by Nate Eovaldi... that story we've lived before. At the deadline, trades for Montgomery and Sutton, gets to World Series... that story we suggested, as recently as July. And yet, the Red Sox brass refuses to interview me because of family considerations... (though my kid would be happy if I kept Nate and dealt for Monty!).
  23. ... and the Dodgers played him at SS every game in the playoffs -- and lost them all. Kike also played a little CF and 2B, and outhit Betts and Freeman...
  24. Of course -- I'm waiting like the rest to see if the Bloom firing was just a facade...
  25. I don't really care who gets the jobs -- as long as it happens soon after the World Series, and they start changing the roster and culture of suck at the next GM meetings. ... and that doesn't include swapping commons for commons on the playground or flipping doubles against the corner of the school at recess.
