  1. Sale, who self admittedly said he sucked in his prior two starts, is more patient with his teammates failures than many would be. The guy threw a gem and got another loss. Let's see if they can hit Mr TBD today pitching for a 21-40 team, against the Most Wins in MLB (MWiMLB)
  2. 5-9 turned out to be 1 for 15. Nice works , assclowns
  3. F these hitters. Why always when Sale pitche? Some of them truly sucked tonight
  4. Chris Sale doing his part with the shutout and major gas through 4. On the other hand the usual suspects in the lineup are doing thier thing. Maybe they will break out now and score 3
  5. He always looked both ways before crossing the street. He did this ad nauseum in 2017 and seems to have reverted. Loves watching the center cut strike, and then flail at the descending , going outside low breaking ball.
  6. I guess this series is good news/bad news. Good part is that it is the White Sox at 20-40. Bad news is we can't field a consistent strong lineup. Hope 5-9 prove it wrong but that is not a championship team. Sale never gets much support anyway and this crew tonight isn't likely to change that trend. Sale needs to stop the HR's and throw a 7 inning shutout, then Kelly and Kimbrel. Win the first game, sweep the series. Get well JDM, Mookie, Pedey but take your time Pom.
  7. Ben C's mistakes under the tutelage and supervision of Larry L. will continue until Castillo, HanRam and the Panda cash their last checks.
  8. Maybe this big time rotation can throw 4 or 5 shutouts in the next week to let the winning continue while Mookie gets well and JDM rests his back. JDM should be only DH'ing right now. Holt can cover the open OF spot with Beni and JBJr. Did Nunez have surgery also on his knee ? The Sox are getting a lot of mileage out of EN .
  9. There are always big differences between reality and perception. You don't get the "best record in MLB" without better than good pitching, so we must have had it so far from the 7 guys who have started more than one game (Bye, Jalen). With non-contributor Pomeranz out of the way for awhile, just keep taking series wins and run with the Yankees. The other comment about the quality of pitching is that the offense has not scored too many laughers but are consistently in the 5-6 run range over the last month or more. You therefore need pitching (starters and relievers) who only allow 4 or 5 runs, so we are getting that as well.
  10. It was PawSox field trip night so the AAA'ers could see what the postgame food spread was like. Think of it; Beeks, Travis, even Swihart catching (made some sense), and then with Vazquez DH'ing. It was treated like a losable game and sure enough they did due to 1-10 w/RISP. Now another Pawtucket starter , Justin Haley, gets called up for his turn at the clubhouse. Now why would they send Beeks back and bring another starter up if no intent to start him. Johnson and Velazquez are the long relief. Do you throw Haley in the long mix just to observe him ? Does someone know something in the FO regarding pitching personnel problems or issues ??
  11. Maybe Brian Johnson should have gotten the spot start based on that 5th inning. Beeks did shut off Detroit in the 2-3-4 innings with minimal damage. Thought his overall delivery was not smooth or typical but neither is Sale's. Maybe DD brought Beeks up to showcase him trying to trade for a catcher ? Hah
  12. You do have to wonder why this was important to modify the rotation. On the one hand see what Jalen does have, and on the other they can afford to drop one if he lays an egg, which he did . So now you send a unconfident, depressed kid back to Pawsox to tell they guys what is what like pitching with 2 outs in MLB. The Dodgers did a similar thing last night with a young call up and he got pounded too. Just put it down as an experiment that accomplished very little unless the Sox go bat nuts in the next few innings.
  13. Finally. MLB comes to its senses and allows 2 DH's for the Sox !
  14. Well, looks like Mookie may be progressing to a game Friday in Pawtucket to see if he can hit.
  15. Try to resign JDM first. Sale is not the pitcher who will win you a WS. He is obviously very talented and can be dominating on occasion but it's a little hard to see it recently.
  16. Every team will win 60 and every team wil lose 60, more or less, but what you do in the other 42 determines your success or failure. Sox are 17 wins away from 60 (end of June?), but will have to drop 41 to get 60 losses. This team may well be on its way to a monumental, historic win total. What do you think. Is it all smoke and mirrors so far ? I would have pitched Sale vs Detroit to get the sweep and Beeks later against White Sox. Sherm Lollar sticks in my mind from the 1955 era White Sox.
  17. Just keep winning series like this with 1 run allowed vs a team actually competing for the AL Central over the first two game while scoring 6 & 7 ourselves. Beeks can come in with nothing but self imposed pressure and can succeed, raising hopes all around for Drew Pomeranz's transfer to anywhere. Barnes was going well for the past month, so good for him . Tonight he threw a clunker of an inning and failed to show any kind of an out pitch.
  18. Notice Poyner finishing his 3 outs on 12 pitches by throwing strikes and not experimenting with a cockeyed screwball. Sometimes the game is simple , Matt Barnes .
  19. Barnes cruising with 2 outs in the 7th on about 10 pitches, now bases loaded on 29 pitches because he started fooling around with a worthless split finger and lost his way. He may get out with his pants on but that was F'ed up. To listen to OB and Eck, Matt is the answer to all your wishes, not so much
  20. It does make some sense to let Beeks get a feel for pitching in Fenway and setting him up (possibly) for more work later in the season. The added rest for Sale, Price, Porcello won't hurt and is likley a set up for a better rotation when the Mariner series starts up, then Yankees at end of month. Cora is definitely taking advantage of the big win total to avoid overstressing this team early, given the Yankees comparable start. The season may well come down to Mookie Betts fairly prompt return (or not), and Pedroia's ability to play. DD and Cora did not count on 500AB seasons from Holt and Nunez as the difference makers for this team's excellent run. JDM was expected to do well and has exceeded that. Devers needs to stabilize and at leat hit .250/.275 with rbi production. He could have had 10 in the past week that he blew.
  21. You can only win the one game you are playing, you can only dominate the season you are in. Looking at 2018, the Sox and Yanks are winning through 60+- games at a very high rate in .680's win%. May or may not be sustainable by either team at those rates, and the Red Sox have been doing it with notable DL stints, absence of Pedroia, 2 regulars hitting below .200 plus Devers slump, and multiple pitching mess ups (Pomeranz and C. Smith). Only the Mariners and Brewers are at the .600 level in all MLB. (Seattle @.633 after a 5 game win streak and .607 for T. Shaw and Brew crew). Enjoy what we are getting out of this roster and hope they can sustain it deep into the post season. But I think you have to win the East to have a good chance. A one game play-in pitched by Chris Sale in early October ? That's a heart attack waiting to happen. Shades of Mike Torrez and B.F. Dent in 1978.
  22. Yes, Johnson and Velazquez have been brought up through the organization as pitchers but are spot starters/long relievers, with some success this year on an as needed basis. Neither is more than a #5 at best, and Wright nailed that spot down last night , although like many #5's his results are unpredictable over a full season. Also, at some point Pomeranz will show up again claiming he feels great and he will be given the shot to regain his role . To start another blunt assessment, if Chris Sale is the Ace of this staff then why can't he throw 7 innings of shutout , like Steven Wright? Sale knows he won't get much run support, so he needs to be better .
  23. Thanks for that list and all the info . Interesting to note that since the 2010 draft, the only guys pitching for Boston are Workman, Barnes, Brian Johnson, Maddox (DL), Poyner all of whom are relievers, as is the most recent draftee Durbin Feltman. And other than Poyner, not one from the drafts of 2013 (last WS win) through this 2018 draft. Not one starting pitcher drafted , who actually threw for Boston, since Brian Johnson (spot starter at best/reliever) in 2012. Henry Owens in 2011 made a few ill fated starts in the last couple years , but is now long gone. Before that Justin Masterson in 2006 made a brief ripple before going away. Clay Buchholz in 2005 was the only draftee who had a "career" in Boston with some success but he eventually flamed out , sharing head case problems with Dan Bard. Long story made short. The Sox have failed for well over 12 years to identify, draft and develop a starting pitcher who reached Fenway in a meaningful way. Somebody needs to pay !
  24. Interesting how wins vs. sub .500 teams are as good in the end as beating the Astros-Yankees. Oh, that is until playoff time. But this year the war will go down for who wins the AL East thereby avoiding being the 100+ win team in a Wild Card play-in game against Astros, Mariners, etc.
  25. Yes, only saw that news on Pom during the broadcast. The GM's best friend, a 10 day DL. Drew P. must have strained the biceps doing his heavy lifting workout. Brandon Workman comes back, which is a nuetral thing for the moment.
