Aren't Boston fans and more so media well known for loving some and blinding others ? Some can deal with it and prosper. Others get sunburned quickly. Plenty of examples both ways. I'm sure all of us can contribute a few. For starters, try Carl Crawford as a loser, throw in Buchholz too as a sensitive guy, Adrian Gonzalez may fit as one who didn't like being in Boston.. On the plus side, Ortiz comes to mind. Bogey and now Devers are young guys who have made a mark all the way through World Series wins. Schilling rose to occasion , as did Tiant and Pedro. Guys who matured in losing team , small market organization would be risk factors coming to the AL East. -
If Dave D is thinking or already determined that the Sox will not resign Porcello, it's hard to believe that he will not move Rick by the trade deadline to a contender needing a steady arm. This should be done regardless of whether the Sox are contending or not, to get value from Rick. It would be strange to let him play out the season wherever the Sox end up and then turn Porcello loose over the 2019/2020 winter. Please note, this does not advocate trading him, unless DD won't make a valid run at him for an extension , sooner than later.

Like the European soccer leagues, if you can't win at least 60, the team reverts to AAA for a season, where it has to win its league to get back to MLB.

JD back above .300. Can only hope this is the start of a big run for him. Looks like the back is back. Scores from first , running hard. I think he is ok.

And some commenters are very critical of his fielding ability. I imagine they are talking about range, not getting to the ball so he only appears to not mess it up.

Back to Yaz not winning a Ws title, keep in mind that the Sox went from 1939 through 1989 (less Williams war years) with 3 HoF'ers in LF pounding the ball and never once in those 50 years won a WS. What was it 4 game 7's , plus 2 one game "play-ins' (1948/1978 ? ) and never got over the top. Just goes to show you that with 4 WS titles in the 2000's, we can afford to play Benintendi

JDM just can't hit it out and be done anymore, LOL. He comes through in ways Beni never will come close to. Beni rolls over so many ground balls to the right side, but with Mookie on second, no outs, he flies out to center.

Jung, I think you may have hit on why it seems Chara is late a lot. Not just age but his size actually works against him. Doesn't matter now, it seems, but good assessment. What was Gretazky's comment long ago, " I don't go where the puck is, I go to where it is going to be"
