  1. What's the chance of a special DH just for JBJr?
  2. Nice f***ing work, Josh Taylor. Didn't take you long to treat your Rowdy friends to a tater fest.
  3. EO pitched well enough for 4.1 to leave with a lead. Something others haven't done for awhile, outside of Eduardo
  4. Over the last 30 years I have gone to work with a core group of people 4 times in 3 different companies . It feels great to see the same faces after a long break and instantly get back into productive mode with good friends. Can Theo go home again. It may not be good in all cases but he is still relatively young. I guarantee he doesn't want any distractions right now as his Cubs try to hold on the 2nd NL WC. It must be fun to still be in the competition, instead of this slow death in Boston.
  5. EO will pitch, not throw, a gem tonight. Time for him to wake up and fill the role he signed for, not some bogus 2 inning stints
  6. In the moment of a beat down by the Yankees happening in front of them DD may have pushed the button too hard on his own situation (extension) at which time someone in ownership said, "What about this s*** performance and where's all your big time contract players?" DD , with a lot of built up frustration over this season, said " f*** you too". After a quiet moment JH said, get your things together tonight because we are done. Whatever, you have seen it in business and marriages as well, I suspect. The long slow simmer building up to the eruption.
  7. He may have been experienced across multiple sports but he was an arrogant prick pain in the ass who finally irritated JH one too many times. The Pawsox was his going away gift. This from an insider who knew him well, a few years ago.
  8. I would guess Cora stays but the coaches get some reshuffling. Levangie has to be under a hot microscope. Don't know the relationships between players and the coaches. A few key players (Bogey, Devers, Martinez) could influence it. I think Cora will get one year to see if about 70% of the 40 man roster ( 28 of 40)being carried over can be remotivated. So much now depends on off season trades, maybe one or two FA's max, and arbitration award amounts vs tax.
  9. RISP, 0 runs all year long
  10. Kelley--a parting gift from DD's minor league system
  11. Darwinzon has no more idea where the ball is going when he releases it than any of us do. Needs some work this winter
  12. Sarcasm guys. Gardner is a waste of protoplasm
  13. Sam Travis is the RH version of JBJr at the bat. The guy is showing nothing.
  14. Gardner has 21 I think. Maybe we could get him to play Cf on his ass next year.
  15. How can a discussion of Porcello's effectiveness have any relevance in the remake of the Red Sox post DD? Maybe it would be a fun off season esoteric exercise , if you like futility. The game is played most nights between the lines, not in the box score or its derivatives. Rick has said many mea culpas but never has corrected his flaws to become more than a sometimes inning eater, especially recently . He is one of the known Gones from 2019.
  16. I understand the fan side of wanting to keep Betts through 2020 and then resign him. He , however, has made it fairly clear including again last night that he is going to test the FA market. Just accept that and move his little butt along this winter . 2020 is already a long shot season since the pitching is as unpredictable as can be, and none of the recent Pawtucket grads appear to be a natural starting pitcher. Then in 2021 they can go nuts trying to resign him after observing his walk season. Assume Mookie gets you one 30 -33 game starter taking Porcellos place a young OF'er and 1 or 2 AAA real prospects . What's to lose. Mookie will not love him some Fenway anymore or less in 2021 because he will be Show Me The Money all day. It gives the Sox one more year to figure out how to deal with the tsunami of potential dead money deals that Price, Sale, EO could become, while still paying Pedey . I truly don't get the concern about keeping Mookie. We have a serious disaster in the starting ranks. Compete for a WC next year but with a few new faces.
  17. One thing to be learned and understood at many levels of employment, even CEO, is that when you think you are bigger than ownership you have just stepped on the banana peel. Exact wrong time this year to be talking an extension when DD's contract covered 2020 already. Results count in every business except politics and utility companies where f***wits prevail over decades of ineptitude. If DD said it's me or the door, he committed a form of professional Hari-kiri. One thing I know about working with "billionaires" is that you are not them, you are not "family", you are the well compensated help, and don't forget it. DD being gone will actually make some of the decision making that was needed about personnel in 2020/2021 a bit easier because it will have been all his "fault". Now the next up to GM will have to deal with the Betts dilemma, Sale and Price's issues, JDM's 2 walk years and rebuilding the farm while remaining relevant in the AL East. That person or committee (please, no) will be well tested by the Dombrowski debris field. Dave might sit out a year, collect his money and sooner or laterr a hungry owner who thinks Dave can get him into the WS will capitulate and say can you do it here? Dave will say, show me your farm system rosters, I think I can help.
  18. Anxious to see Cora's reaction to this move by ownership. Now he has to consider a new boss in baseball ops. Henry had to be super mad to this and was just waiting for a good excuse, such as a Yankee series loss at home . DD's team did not have a winning record at home. All very interesting and will make the off season more active than this season has been.
  19. Splendid, thanks for an interesting season of unique word play. I'm letting it go at this point, because it is simply no longer interesting. See all next Spring after DD remakes this roster. Moon would not take my 5 year bet so I'm crushed. Please note : Mookie will not sign with Boston going forward, so seriously move him this winter, DD
  20. Here's a clue to this season; In the 8th inning of an 8-5 game with Red Sox vs Yankees in Fenway, the number of players on the combined benches equals or exceeds the fans left in the stands. On the other hand Walden stiffs Judge, a dog of a player
  21. Lot of people have left the town square anticipating a shoot out (not AR15 massacre)at the OK bullpen. f***'em if they can't take a joke
  22. Good post. I think the players deserved FA at some point, say 5 years, but that ship sailed.
  23. Just a wild guess from watching numerous games both early and late in the season, I do think there is limited affinity between JBJr and Mookie Betts. just a hunch, doesn't mean anything. Yaz and Conigliaro did not get along
  24. You my fellow traveler are a candle in the wind , whose observations do not meet the criteria of the elite who can handicap Cy Young's progression through amateur baseball of the early 20th century but cannot see a weak effort team in front of their eyes. A group of gutless wonders with no more clue as to how to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat than to just roll over and rest until Spring Training when major rest periods will be scheduled
  25. I will irritate some with this but it's time to enjoy season , so here are some non-stat based comments: Moreland is a good glove guy with a bat not much better than JBJr and the endurance of CC Sabathia. JBJr is a frustrating player whose true ability has never been achieved over a full season. I believe he hates Mookie Betts,
