  1. Better be sure you still have your top draft choices before tanking, whether Chaim is wearing a disguise or not. Manfred's report better be interesting because it is taking FOREVER.
  2. Ramon Ramirez and Manny DelCarmen were my two favorite flamethrowers out of the bullpen. Not because they were good but because no two buddies could put more napalm on a small fire than anyone else I knew . On the other hand I thought Daniel Bard would be HoF material with his fastball coming out of the pen. Liked him a lot until he lost his mind which I blamed on Clay Buchholz a possible mental midget.
  3. Interesting to see if Hector gets picked up by anybody , other than the Monterrey Matadors . It's an informal gauge of whether the player is better than the 26th man on teams like Detroit. Beware the surging Marlins this year.
  4. If the Sox are out of it in July, and there was any value in moving Eo, JBJ, Barnes and Moreland then no objections. Not a salry issue now, but an upside/durability issue. Are the Sox going to make a significant FA offer to JBJr while chasing Mookie around the country,? I doubt it. will Moreland ever be better than he can be this year ? Not likely ? If Eovaldi has a great first half with no injury do you risk that condition holding for another few years ? Not really in a non competitive year. Is Matt Barnes getting better, I guess there is a chance but a small one.
  5. If TJS is a real possibility then Sale must know he has, at best, a partial tear or scarring from the prior damage and then the PRP stimulated regrowth. If that is what is making his elbow or forearm sore, he needs to pitch through it. But if the MRI's show some partial tearing, it , for sure, won't heal itself in a week, 10 days, or 12 months. If partially torn and given his radical throwing motion , it will blow sooner than later. He may well be reluctant for surgery and rehab, but also doesn't want to be the one to blow it out himself. I'm sympathetic with others who have said that if he was allowed to throw from sometime in November, how did he or the team let it get to a BP session in March to suddenly get sore ?
  6. Verlander's peak performance is easily explained by his coming of age with Kate Upton. That would put some balls in spin mode. Morton is more of a mystery unless he double dated with Verlander and Upton while pitching for Houston. Wait maybe that's the link !
  7. I had note heard that about the sticky substance. It should have been noticeable on the balls tossed out of the game every pitch that touched the ground.
  8. The one thought I have about not getting Rick is that there was little chance for him to be a cog in the future, and Bloom &Co knew that Betts and Price would be gone early on (just not the details). Therefore , whatever you paid him would eat up a chunk of the money available under the CBT threshhold. The rebuild was on and Rick P. wasn't going to figure in it. They had to anticipate trouble with Sale's and/or Eovaldi's arm would sink 2020 anyway , so Porcello as a #4 or 5 accomplished little . I hope he does well for the Mets
  9. Don't know what kind of hat you wear, but you do put out some well thought out comments, enjoy seeing them. Verdugo is and will be an assclown this season and next doesn't look much better
  10. Rarely, if ever, does reporting injury on details to the public get done. Must be HIPPA. In any case, i do think Sale himself is reluctant to do surgery until the UCL fully shreds itself, possibly the next time he throws hard. This drip, drip, drip of a health issue with no resolution is a mirror image of Pedroia's. That was equally mishandled and I suspect mistreated by his doctors or busted by Pedroia himself with too hard a workout.
  11. So you're saying run support counts and should be shown in a pitcher's stat line? Actually not a bad idea. Easily as meaningful as W-L record.
  12. Amazingly, incredible, awesome. 5 innings in 2 starts, 0.00 ERA, 5 hits no walks, and 7 K's . SSS, but what could go wrong with those stats on the board?
  13. Could be a 2 way threat---Down and out ! Couldn't resist because until he can play my assumption is that he and I are equal assets to the organization.
  14. What does Ken recommend since nothing else has worked ?
  15. Anticipating a complete write-off now of C.F. Sale, Bloom is truly stuck and virtually has to hoire a thrower who can get 5 innings 6 times a month. If the Betts/Price deal had happene4d in December, he had time to work within the new budget. Now out of time and clearly out of luck, he will have to find a thrower so Narron can get 10 names on the lineup card. All the youngsters mentioned as trade bait won't get you much now, because none would be filling frontline starting positions elsewhere, except possibly JBJ and Beni. Not a brilliant move now. Better value could be had by holding all the potential trading cards until July and then see what is available. Very hard to see the Sox in any contention at that time and a surprise team or contender with injuries could be made to pay up with a legit AAA/AAAA pitcher ready to mature in 2021
  16. That's ok, I heard a small piece of a broadcast last week where Porcello (Mets) pitched to Ryan Lavarnway (Marlins) who promptly grounded to Eduardo Nunez (Mets).
  17. No way anything the team or Sale says can be taken as encouraging. How could there even be a discussion of resting the elbow for even part of a month. He just had rest since last August. The team from ownership on down does not want to finalize this one yet because Sale may be objecting to surgery or they never are honest on injuries, or they are just prolonging the misery a la Manfred and his report to the UN on baseball cheating.
  18. That would have saved Perez and his accomplices a run today. These rule changes are funny on a not funny day. Whoever said Roenicke was a patsy, in another thread, had no idea how true that was. Ol' Ron got furled up in the4 Sale.
  19. Oh, you mean Rob Manscape has not yet finished his homework? Maybe he can bury the news of his decision on a late Sunday Sports Center, right after SVP's Bad Beats. Or wait for Opening Day to enthuse the fan base of baseball.
  20. About 20 minutes later. Not one Red Sox player(?) on the field in the 7th or 8 th inning against the Yankees had the least interest in being there or any chance of impressing RR or coaches. Their route to Boston will be as a tourist.
  21. Talking about Martin Perez as a stopgapper in the rotation. Don't know if Chatham's error really upset him but he couldn't shut it down and recover. Not very knowledgeable on Bandy, but my guess is he scores low on the baseball Wunderlich test. Still pO'ed at Sale.
  22. I'm taking a shot at Sale. Did he not know how his arm felt over the winter? Did he never pick up a ball and throw some? Did he waste 6 months or more of my life? He got paid and then screwed the rest of team back. I hope they amputate. Say what you will, but this dude's a dildo.
  23. Chavis struggling a bit with 6K's and only 2 hits in 12 AB's.. But then there's this J Martinez guy who is also 2 for 12 with 5K's. No chance for either of these guys. Also thanks to Valdez, Reyes and Lau for eating up 4 innings of ST , allowing only 10 runs. The AA field is way over behind left field guys. Meanwhile Ryan Weber spinning the magic of a slow curve , but more importantly showing that he can throw a lot of strikes. They'll get hit by real lineups but the guy is trying to earn a spot as an opener, or middle long relief.
  24. Nate Eovaldi doesn't seem to get a lot of love here. He does need to put an entire season together to show what he can do. But his stint against the Braves, with starters in their lineup today, showed the talent level that Nate brings to the party. A full year of that and we'll be thankful for his strong stuff.
  25. Mazza, Alvarez and Poyner made a mess of it today on the mound . They won't be seen for too long on any Moon list except the DFA. Sale starting the year on the 15 day IL, not his fault nor his arm's, but is almost too ironic for words.
