  1. Pivetta blowing up like a cheap pinata at the San Ysidro border crossing. Rick was pulling a May Buehler stunt
  2. If Buehler falters badly again, he will still be around waiting a turn simply because there is almost no choice, and Dustin May is no serious answer. If there is to be any help then Criswell and Fitts will need to come back up and pitch in a tight pennant race. The lack of a decisive and expensive move at the TDL will come to be costly as August winds into September . The pitching injuries have probably cost the Sox about 50% of the talent Cora/Bailey expected to have available both starting and RP's
  3. I don't see much mention about the potential impact of Narvaez's sore knee. It is not likely to get better much less cured by catching 3 of 5 games over these last 46 games. Narvaez has been in a ongoing slump for a month. Since a lot of hitting, like pitching, is powered by the legs, Carlos's slump is more understandable to me. The real point is that playing through it won't make him or the team better. Wong can catch but has been awful with the bat this year. Did his broken finger initiate a compensatory move by Connor that has messed him up? So what happens if Wong gets injured , even for a 10 day IL stint. There is no ready made 3rd catcher . Maybe Narvaez can get through it but the optics and the condition don't seem encouraging. Wong can help by hitting even .650 OPS Wait, Ali Sanchez, you say ? Look at his lifetime stats . He has played in 46 games , 123 PA's over a 4 year period with a career OPS of .461.
  4. Partly cloudy with strong wind out to LF. I don't know if he had options left but the alternative would have been to offer work at Worcester until some sign of control was seen. With 8 seasons at MLB level, I doubt he was optionable , and maybe Bres has a roster addition he wants to fill. I think there are 39 slots on the 40 taken, a few IL-60 guys not counting vs it.
  5. The fact that there was no real path forward for Tibbs in the OF , same for Ehrhard , and neither will graduate to the Dodgers this season takes a little sting out of a desperation trade at the stroke of 6PM, 7/31. Definitely not a good trade for immediate help nor long term value as I will guess that the Sox don't make a serious FA offer unless May develops an unhittable pitch overnight. One surprising thing about this trade is that the Sox FO had just watched their own guys beat May the week before in a similar fashion, a couple of early innings going good then the balls started flying 2nd time around. Despite having a well worked BP needing some innings eaten by even the 5th starter, the Sox get a true rental who exacerbates an existing problem. I'm with the guys commenting above, so like Buehler run him out a couple more times and try to help May/Buehler succeed.
  6. The Sox go 5-1 in the first half of this group of 12 games vs quality opponents, now ready to finish with 3 in SD and 3 in Houston as they try to avoid the West Coast bogeyman. Relying on Buehler to hold the Padres and get us on track for a win is whistling in the wind. If Walker has a game left in him, this would be one place to apply it.
  7. He needs to show some level of command/control , so he can get 2 or 3 outs when needed in the 6th/7th. But that won't happen until FO/Cora think they can commit to Criswell, who in turn must pitch above his pay grade. Right now , despite the acquisition of May the Sox FO did little to bolster the f'up starting rotation. That is also why Buehler will be run out there every 5 days to stress the BP a little further. The return of an effective Slaten would help.
  8. Campbell sets the table with a HBP, let's the runner go free for 2 bases stolen, then gives up a bounce for a run because of his own sloppiness and unpreparedness to pitch. F'ing loser
  9. I know Yoshida can slash and hit to left but he continues to pound the ground with rollovers to 2Bman. Despite his contract, he may have trouble being on the 2026 active roster. The Sox FO hid him as long as they could this year for good reason.
  10. Yes, Tuesday. regrettably they can't dump Hicks as easily .
  11. Here is Alcala in spirit--Jordan Hicks. This is a real pretender and total sack of crap
  12. Sox should have been pounding Wacha tonight . Story or Bregman need to step up and lead it. Anthony's fly ball to Yaz need to carry about 2' further
  13. Rafaela with a regrettable throw but no measurable damage. Look both ways before crossing the street Cedanne
  14. Narvaez with a sore knee per Merloni. Time for Wong to get right with the bat
  15. So they wanted Devers to pitch also ? How much can you ask of one man-child ?
  16. Looks like Brez got himself a genuine thrower with no control nor command. I can appreciate May has to acclimatize himself to actually pitching in the big leagues after that stint in LaLa land , but basically he doesn't have an out pitch to bail himself out.
  17. Romy is a pretty fair utility player . And some are wondering why Grissom isn't up. I realize the sentiment is more anti-Hamilton but there is only room for one guy at a time in that 3rd bench slot . It is not Grissom
  18. Anyone who thinks the upcoming ( 8/15-17) games with the Marlins will be "rest" days and easy wins better check the surge currently underway by Miami. That team is hot
  19. Might be off here, but I think this is Wong's 3rd game in last 5. Narvaez has looked leg weary when running and hitting is about 75% leg action. As a younger player in his first full season he likely needs the rest . In Carlos's prior 8 seasons in MiLB , he never appeared in over 100 games. He has 85 games this year with 45 yet to go plus high potential playoffs.
  20. Along with Wyatt Mills from the MiLB Sox system .
  21. Just can't quite get the sink reference. And Fred is #1 to me
  22. Going to San Diego for the Sunday game to see if the Sox can actually play well on the West Coast.
