  1. Would you take Laureano for Verdugo heads up right now ? Not necessarily, but maybe since he is a RH hitter, not showing enough power though
  2. How does Vogt the .179 hitter get 2 walks and a HR spoiling another shutout. We do give it up to some weak sisters .
  3. Nice to see that Story and Dugo still come to the games , even if only to play some defense
  4. Regards to the new guy in CF and leadoff batter ( Rob R.), who was that other guy that previously stood in the batters box first? Hard to recall, although I doubt Refsnyder will make a full season of it. He has improved the 1st batter up though
  5. It may be a chicken/egg situation, where a bad team won't get a new stadium in or near Oakland and that will justify the move to a new city, possibly Las Vegas. The Chargers-San Diego pissing match provides guidance.
  6. My best guess is that his plan for the pretrade deadline period will be one mid level relief pitcher , and one upgraded RH bench bat (replace Arroyo ?) . It will look similar to 2021 moves. I believe the issue of starting pitching will be left to Sale first, and Paxton second to revive their currently moribund careers. Neither is any guarantee of anything except they get paid. Chronic conditions for EO ( back strain) and Whitlock (hip) could change that mix significantly. Josh Taylor's recovery could help a lot if his back heals. Other than a piece in a trade, Dalbec will be here all year as will Cordero . As will Matt Barnes and probably Plawecki. Sorry for using the Game Thread for these thoughts, should be in the main Forum threads
  7. Rodriguez walks away from his professional life ( Detroit doesn't have to pay him), Strasburg goes IL again, Sale never gets off the IL, Barnes makes the A-S team, gets paid and can't pitch effectively again. Signing a pitcher to a big time deal is a very risky proposition.
  8. Having pushed the team over .500 finally, is this the week to get the 13-14 Fenway record over the line also? The Sox need to get better at home since the differential over the rest of the season is +7 Fenway games. That will shift to -2 after this 9 game home stand featuring Oakland (3-0 sweep), Cardinals (2-1) and the Tigers (2-1) for a 7-2 week+ . Actually could catch the Rays and jays over this period. Need to build some momentum going into the A-S break July 18-21. After that run, Bloom will need to decide is he a seller, buyer, or just fixing a loose lug nut on one wheel.
  9. Who needs a closer with Tanner Houck available ? Oh wait, he has become the closer because he gets people out when it counts
  10. it would be just like a losing team like Seattle to mess up a winning team's DH with their crappy pitching
  11. Maybe a called shot ???
  12. Refsnyder takes one for the team to let Devers a shot at getting the lead here That was a pitch to hit and Raffy knows it
  13. Plawecki's bat makes you appreciate Vaz's contributions at the plate. 2023 will not be too soon for a new back up catcher, maybe a first string too if Bloom let's Vaz walk, as some here would.
  14. 8-2 will feel a lot better than 7-3 though. Extremely winnable game as long we score before bottom 9.
  15. Plawecki's throws make you appreciate Vazquez's arm
  16. Like they forgot to plug in for an overnight charge. Not only did Robles suck the spark out of them but breakfast today was all you can eat pancakes . They needed some nice Danish, and only now are getting him.
  17. You would like him to be successful, but Dalbec just fails far more than he succeeds. His HR last night in the 9th was great, not his fault that Robles was the default. But today he hits a 2-0 pitch into a ground ball DP with a man on third.
  18. Bogaerts trying to help win this one with some good baserunning
  19. Brasier on fire today. 7 pitches to wipe out 3 hitters. Devers made a quick reaction play.
  20. Crawford was reaching his expiration date after 80 pitches, but makes a great pitch to France to save his 1 hit shutout through 5. Now for the bats, not so much yet.
  21. O'B says 6 walk off losses this season . Didn't say if that was the BP each time, but you know it had to be, since we win complete games.
  22. Robbie Ray uses 60 pitches to record 15 outs against the ragin' red Sox. Obviously the Sox hitters are in a hurry to catch that plane home to Momma. Can we get one more strong inning out of Crawford ?
  23. Is there or is there not any rule about how far you can take your bat with you when running the basses like JD Gazelle ?
  24. Hint: it's not Robles. Just waiting for the stat crew to verify my observation The real intent of the thought wasn't so much a new stat category, but rather that can a reliever insure his team's win or not. The only stat that seems to matter at year end are team W-L records.
