  1. Mientkiewicz was pretty good. He caught the toss that mattered most after 86 years of frustration. Then he kept the ball for awhile.
  2. Downs has already put his name in baseball's historical records. Congrats, not all prospects get that footnote.
  3. Any chance that Bogaerts talked his way back into the lineup to help Downs at 3B on the field. If so, that is a compliment to his sense of leadership.. Meanwhile Wacha sucks so far
  4. I never advocated dumping Cora. I thought earlier in the season, especially while losing, that intentionally resting non-injured athletes still in their 20's was not the right call. Situationally in mid-June the days off struck me as possibly useful.
  5. Giving Bogey and Devers 2 days off ( No game Thursday) might be helpful before beginning sets against teams that we need to beat to advance further in the standings and get into the meatgrinder schedule in July.
  6. Not myself, I decline to get into some of the esoteric debates on the forums . I think clutch may be more of a focused mindset when all others around you are losing their cool. It then allows a better chance at a successful outcome . How does momentum come into play in the moment ? Answer: It doesn't in baseball.
  7. In the investment world, the statement is that "past performance is no guarantee of future returns". When he returns, we'll see if he has a reset button to turn it around.
  8. WTF, Strahm ? Throwing prime steaks up there
  9. Gut check time to insure the series win . Nice thing about series wins is that you are likely playing at .667 pace which will get you to the October games that count.
  10. Just a guess, but if Boston is in any of the wild card positions with any cushion, Cora and Bloom may want to stay with a veteran like Kike than the less experienced guy. If the wheels fall off in July, kike is a goner.
  11. No sweat 5 up, 3 down. Danish was all over them, lol
  12. With 2 on, he either needs a K or a DP on next hitter or he may need to go to the clubhouse Foul pop is ok too. I would pull him NOW, go to Strahm
  13. Danish will make this interesting unfortunately
  14. It could be a shift buster for JBJr too, although his previous attempts at bunting have not been great if I recall
  15. I do like him on this team, realizing he is good not great. Actually a tough decision on renewing him since another GM may overrate him, like JDM, like Bogey in terms of long contract 6 yrs++ for multimillions.
  16. Vaz, JBJr and Duran need to turn up the heat and start a massive rally Yes, Vazzie
  17. Brasier gets 2 clean innings with some great D behind him. I wouldn't send him out for the 8th
  18. Tampa Bay 9th inning lineup features 6 guys hitting below .200 . Hope the NYY's close them out so we can pass them up now. Peralta promptly walks the .160 hitting leadoff Ray on 4 pitches. The player had previously K'ed his last 3 AB's, 2 on called pitches.
  19. Yankees take the lead back in top 9 . Better for us if the Rays lose. Now Yankees 4-2, going to Rays bottom 9.
  20. Tampa ties the NYY'ers in 8th with 2 runs. Yankee meltdown in the BP ?
  21. Does Cora go to Houck now or let Schreiber try to end it ? I don't think Alex C. cares much about fixed roles , so hard to outguess him. Schreiber could save Tanner for possible use tomorrow.
  22. Flash bulletin just in: This game is not quite over . Good Luck closing this inning, Strahm
  23. Dugo doing his Beni best imitation to save Diekman's sorry ass.
  24. Fido be in the dogpound now, taking his obligatory shower. But Boston still doesn't yet have the 5 run lead necessary for victory
