  1. Didn't take Hill long to confirm his ineptness, going down 2-0 before getting the first out.
  2. Just a gut feel, but tonight may be a tough one for Boston. Top of the first, 3 outs on 7 pitches doesn't change that feeling
  3. Look a little closer at that "pounding" of the Pirates last night. The 4 run first inning featured 2 bad fielding plays by Pitts( 5 outs), , a couple walks and 4 singles with runners going one base at a time because JDM and Devers cannot run well now. After adding a run in the 2nd, Boston then went 7 innings with no hits at all, looking somewhat disinterested in the proceedings. Pivetta threw his own 7 inning , one hit shutout which was great. But then Davis risked the whole game , including Schreiber allowing an inherited runner to score . Barnes, however, was very efficient closing the 9th on just 10 pitches. So , it took 3 pitchers to finish of the last 6 outs against a truly weak lineup. One foul pole HR could have turned this game inside out. It was a win , and quite welcome, but Boston is still missing some spark to give confidence in a strong finish.
  4. Rich Hill, a known entity, vs. Roansy Contreras , a younger pitcher than Hill, with fair results while on a losing team. Roansy is 3-2 with a 3.78 ERA and 1.38 Whip. Hill has a 1.35 WHIP , but a 4.75 ERA. With win after win after a day off, the thread starting streak continues but a word of warning: The Sox are truly struggling at the plate. No hit for 7 innings last night by a gaggle of bullpen matadors. Fortunately, the Yankees keep losing but the Orioles keep winning. Red Sox still 3.5 behind the O's, with 3 huge games coming up after Pittsburg. But , win them one at a time, right?
  5. 7 inning shutout with under 100 pitches by Pivetta. Just what a good #3/4 should do vs a weak opponent. Should even his record at 9-9 .
  6. And the Sox , with a 5-0 lead looking good, have 5 singles, taking advantage of walks and errors . Kike still in early season form
  7. Agree that it is an amazingly boring game, but maybe a non-stress win is a welcome thing once in a awhile. It should set the tone for the next two games, although I need to be careful due to the it's not over until it's over" adage.
  8. Pirate fielding skills could use an upgrade
  9. I think you may have similar situations with JDM's back and Dever's hamstring this month. Kike may have been affected by the hip all Spring
  10. Still no one out , 3 runs in. Pirates look like they are already done Kike gets an rbi on a sac fly in his first swing in awhile
  11. Another hit by Arroyo, but still only 1 run because JD doesn't run well. One base at a time
  12. Dugo gets a hit for 1. Devers not running real well to protect the hamstring stays at 3rd
  13. Bases loaded, no outs in the 1st. Either the RS make a statement and take this game right now, or keep the Pirates in the game
  14. Featuring the return of Kike Hernandez, playing at SS to give Xander 2 days off.
  15. The irate Pirates take on the making a move (?) Red Sox in an interleague 3 game set. The Sox should dominate the 45-70 Pittsburgers. Nick Pivetta ( 8-9 ) vs Mitch Keller ( 4=8 , 4.25 ERA, 1.41 Whip) Sox started this 16 game stretch needing to go 11-5 to get above .500 and see the Orioles tail lights more clearly. In the first 10 games , they went 4-6 , thank you Royals, so the 11-5 is out of the question. They do need to take all 3 in Pittsburg and 2 of 3 vs O's to have some chance of passing 4-5 other WC contenders in the coming 6 weeks.
  16. Just open space for more Yankee trolls to explain why they will not have the best record in MLB, while walking towards a playoff disaster via their bullpen
  17. Quick fact to show the irrelevance of W-L stats for pitchers, there are 8 Sox pitchers with winning records plus 3 more who are at .500 . All this on a team that is still 2 under .500. Further stretching the point of irrelevance is that Wacha is 7-1 , and long gone Diekman is 5-1, creating a +10 differential. So after you list the winning records and the .500 threesome, the rest of the guys are a combined -12, including Sale at 0-1. Who have the biggest negative W-Ls: Barnes and Bello at 0-3 each. A total of 27 guys have taken the mound this year, including Bradley, Sanchez and Plawecki. The other 24 took the 5th amendment when asked if they had now or ever been an MLB qualified pitcher.
  18. 1st loss in 12 games ?? Yeah, that's a slump out here. And the sun is still up. Try that back east.
  19. Screw the Yankees ( Where is JDavis??) . Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda been a sweep of the NYY'ers
  20. Cement this win and take the series. Irrelevant to the overall standings but feels good anyway. Living in SoCal and seeing Dodgers often, a Yankee-Dodger WS would only be interesting to the Dodgers. That is a machine.
  21. Why does McGuire a LH hitter only play every other day, including against RH pitchers? Plawecki tries but doesn't help. Is it because he knows Wacha ?
  22. Who has 6 outs in their hands ?? Another game that should be won with a strong closeout.
  23. Mr Taillon ( 11-2 3.45 ERA) vs the return of Wacky Wacha (6-1 , 2.69 ERA). Michael Wacha will take his superlative stats against a tough opponent in Taillon. . For the Sox supposed mid lineup guys, Devers, Bogaerts and JDM , all pitchers are looking tough right now. This triple slump led to the slow start out of the gates in April/early May. It's baaaack ! It would be great to win this series in a big bat way to support Wacha's return.
  24. With the game on the line, Devers and Bogaerts hit the ball a combined 20-25'.
  25. Nice dribbler from the $300 million man
