  1. Duran did save a run there with a great grab at the BP sidewall
  2. Anytime we get a win from an ORT start that is indeed a well-earned victory. The 98 innings of shutdown after Torres HR is looking very good. On to game#2
  3. Ort follows the script by getting the Sox behind in the first. Devers seems to have found his bat again but no answering runs.
  4. Plus the rainout and subsequent doubleheader will overload the BP today. The Sox would benefit if both games rain out today.
  5. Houck's unfortunate trip to the IL puts a real capper on the first 3 months of the season. Sox FO trying to find another starter in the enriched farm system, OR just put Corey Kluber back in the rotation, problem solved.
  6. Cool, low 60's, 95%+ chance of rain during game time . Take the night off Sunday is not perfect but looking somewhat better than Saturday night
  7. Certainly hope Houck wakes up with no more than a headache and continues pitching well. He got robbed of a W , but probably just glad to be alive.
  8. It doesn't matter in a laugher, but Casas was dogging it to first on his groundout-throw error. Scorer gave him a hit. Kind of a mercy gift. Given that bonus, how is Devers the only batter without a hit in a 14 run game ? There was no better game all year to bust out the whooping stick and crush the Yankees
  9. Bloom needs to run for office. That is a politician's word salad , full of sound and fury signifying nothing. Credit to W.S.
  10. So, am I getting the consensus of numerous inputs outside TalkSox that Bloom directed Cora to pull Kike off SS ? It sounds that way to me. Bad blood brewing on that one. Cora laughs while saying that Kike has to go to SS in late innings since Cora had to PH for Reyes . This dynamic will get more interesting at trade deadline if Bloom DOES what he did NOT do last year and scalp the roster of players over 30.
  11. And if Bloom tried to lock him up for another year now, there is the not insignificant risk of a subsequent injury a la Sale. Also Paxton at his age probably only has one shot at a 3 year deal for $30-$35 million and he owes it to himself to be available for it.
  12. There are 15 more games through June 30, at which point the Red Sox will be more than 50% through the season (83 games). They may be about the .500+- team that has bounced around the first half so far, directionless and sloppy. It will be worth a hard look at the WC standings at that point and decide if this team can make a sustained run at a WC slot OR is time to consider the future of some of the 40 man roster, especially older guys like Turner, McGuire and Kike to see if another team will pay up for short term results. It will likely not be enough time (6/30) to reach conclusions on guys like Duran and Casas , but right now you would have to consider them available for an upgrade package deal. Last season Bloom approached the trade deadline like he was walking on eggshells and missed a major opportunity to deal Eovaldi, JDM, Bogaerts. Just a suggestion, but I don't think the current group, now minus Sale, has a legit shot at the WC . So get some value, Bloom.
  13. Agreed, let them prove themselves or wash themselves out at this level . Not giving the season away quite yet, but come July every "suspect" of a prospect should be shopped . At a minimum, Bloom will get an honest 3rd party evaluation of the value of some of the younger guys.
  14. The excitement level at awaiting Chang to step in for Reyes is boundless. Kike was at least an amusing SS
  15. I read the Globe article with Bloom's apology for not checking Dermody's social media postings more closely before signing him . Bloom committed to a more robust background check on future signees. Did it ever occur to Bloom and his team to check the health, injury history and actual baseball abilities a little more closely before signing the player ? In his haste to be inclusive and politically correct, Bloom et alia may be overlooking the more primary characteristics of MLB personnel. Before someone gets excited, this is not an endorsement nor excuse for Dermody . It's a comment on the Yalie in the FO and his ability to judge economically efficient talent.
  16. You are touching on a point I have been thinking about with respect to our younger players. Do some of them have a reasonable level of intelligence , even if not post high school levels of education ? There are a few out there who may actually be in the shallow end of the gene pool, both in baseball IQ and general knowledge as well. I'll name names after they take the Wunderlich tests I sent them are graded.
  17. It is ironic in the extreme that Daniel bard comes back to Boston with a baseball in his hand , and picks up 2 quick wins. The Bosox are becoming toast at home. Eventually Fredo will have to pay for his sins.
  18. It was Story himself who said, in effect, maybe DH'ing in July, SS not until August but he is waiting for his body to speak to him. Chang's spoke to him and in Mandarin or whatever he speaks, said YU, the hamate surgery is not healed. Sit down for another week , then rehab again, meaning to me July 1 or later.
  19. Let's keep the ball bouncing....a simultaneous "slump" with limited run production over a 10 game period by 10 or more lineup batters is uncommon. No multirun scoring innings over 9+ games is uncommon. It also speaks to the fact that to achieve that, it means that NO ONE hit a homerun with a man or men on base. That is the only fact common to this version of the RS. I do think that when the rest of the lineup sees Devers failing to pick them up, they try too hard to hit the 6 run HR with no one on , thereby failing to extend innings and move the line. I also think Casas has a long way to go as a player, but time is on his side. If Story returns during July as a DH initially , then Casas will have to sit in favor of Turner at 1B for his bat. Or Turner will be heavily shopped at the deadline ( more likely)
  20. It's only one loss , although the team is again below .500 and on the wrong side of run differential ( -1) . Oh wait, you say that Daniel Bard was the winning pitcher , and Connor Seabold shut them down for 6 or so innings. Now you do have a problem . That game and outcome was pathetic, with defensive errors and warning track power overcoming a fine start by Paxton .
  21. I'm getting weary of Casas. I know...the ball and the infield was wet , just like his pants.
  22. Bard gets bailed out by Casas, Pivetta thought he should walk everyone after Bush told him to intentionally walk McMahon.
  23. Pivetta making it interesting. That elusive 3rd out
  24. Casas, not much else to say.
  25. So time for the face to show up
