  1. Masa makes a play or did he? Looked like a clean catch on the first replay
  2. That was 18 pitches after the 3rd out should have been made on a reasonably routine run/catch , not even at the warning track. I know the roof visibility in the Trop, especially in daylight is not good but Abreu had to get that ball.
  3. The inning goes on with still 2 outs (made) . HR by the #9 hitter Crawford's pitch count is well above a 100 pitch/5 inning projection. Just keep making the BP bleed. Then Crawford walks another one
  4. There is the problem with 2 guys in the OF, neither of whom is especially conversant in English. Abreu needed to take command as the CF'er. He looked at Yoshi pulling up and overran the ball. Again, as Moon says, it's not necessarily actual ruled errors, it is plays not made. It is also the problem with 2 out ( or any out) walks).
  5. Throw the pitch at Dever's eye level and he will be sitting down. Can't resist it and can't hit it. Sort of like Story on low sweepers away
  6. That's an interesting stat (56-3, after 6 when leading) given that Jansen himself has lost 5 games . That means the Sox trailed after 6 at least 2 times, tied or regained the lead, then Kenley blew it. There must be a few others on the staff who did the same. Anyway, the eye test indicates that the Sox tend to hit better late in the game , often quiet early.
  7. Coming off a 13 game negative streak breakup at the Trop, in come from behind fashion, the Sox send Kutter Crawford out to sting the Rays. Interesting matchup vs Zach Eflin ( 13-8; 3.40 ERA; 1.02 WHIP). Eflin was one of the possible acquisitions over the winter that Chaim and Co. "just" missed. We got Corey Kluber instead, late in the game Sox broke out the bats in the first of this series with Casas and Yoshi homering, and the pitchers combined for 8 shutout innings after a weak 1st. Even Kenley pitched well on a back to back . Sox are winning at .750 clip in September. You would like to think it will be the start of a miracle finish run to the WC#3 slot. Maybe .
  8. Great team win. Shows us what they can do against a big winning team. Bloom says this game validates his approach to baseball operations from the analytics PoV
  9. Bit of an odd stat but Kenley has only blown 3 saves all year, but has lost 5 games, meaning he has entered a game ahead or tied and gave up the winning runs 5 times
  10. The mere thought of beating the Rays at the Tropicana makes the difficult chore of starting game threads all worthwhile
  11. Meaningless situation, up 7-1 in the 9th . Game was already virtually over.
  12. Agree on Martin. My point is that pitching Jansen in a meaningless situation, and him using about 24 pitches burned up Jansen in front of a theoritically important game today.
  13. I mentioned as few weeks ago that I doubt the contract will become a big issue for the Sox because Devers will find himself traded within 4 years .
  14. Story is closing in on 100PA's. He is not looking good. How much time does he need to reach a competitive AB ?
  15. Meanwhile Casas has truly become the big bat in the lineup. Duvall has warmed up too. Uh oh, looks like pitching Jansen in the 9th in KC could bite AC's butt
  16. Big first half, very little since. I was surprised by Ortiz's comments that only Dalbec talks to him much about hitting. Maybe Rafi needs to also
  17. Devers had one job---get Abreu to 3rd base. But instead he K's . Let's see if Turner is any better
  18. Civale should reach 100 pitches this inning . Maybe the Sox can get into the Rays BP and do their late inning magic.
  19. Bello pitches 3 straight very efficient, effective innings. Batters need to pick him up better and overcome the first.
  20. X must be wondering what happened in SD this season. Total flop, but his financial future is assured. Good for him
  21. Maybe Devers tripping over the 3B bag on the double steal could be an error if it wasn't so funny
