  1. That turnover of nobodies is as much and indictment of Bloom's & staff's ability to recognize any talent. They basically are playing bullpen roulette , a losing proposition at the backend of the 'pen.
  2. Story's story is that he is taking one for the team by returning a day or two early, but don't expect too much and i'll need a few easy days off to check my body's reaction to actually having to work for a living, several million per at that.
  3. When the color of your external underwear determines your outcomes then you are hunting unicorns. But baseball players are highly superstitious , so City Connect it is. When the Sox win tonight, who will be first to attribute it to the uni ? I don't see Kike wearing those damnable yellow shoes (now Reyes does) while playing for Dodgers. Correlation or causation? He still makes errors though.
  4. Just watch the next 10 games' outcomes to see if there is any oxygen remaining in the clubhouse. If the Sox can go 7-3 or better, there's a chance . 6-4 or worse and the poor planning from January 1 onward through the deadline will be confirmed.
  5. Good assessment. I will follow this one for the next 10 , like all of you, and see how it flies. The August 1-4 start is not that of a resurgent team who had a hot July. Failure here should result in some critical analysis of the management and ownership at all levels
  6. I do agree that Bloom does not know how to do it or if he by some chance does, JH is stopping him. There is no serious explanation for the roster and non-upgrade-moves this entire year.
  7. You should try "Reply with quote before typing anything, seems to work ok. Still need some emojis or like/dislike on this site for brief replies.
  8. The guy who did get extended for market rate bucks is an unlikely HoF'er. He's a player, but no evidence of an individual who could lead or carry this team.
  9. Based on the IL players returning, it seems to be a moving target that gets later and later. I agree the promise of adding a Sale, Story, Whitlock, Houck sounds highly encouraging, the clock and calendar are ticking away. I have come to think that a Yalie philosopher like Bloom and hedge fund billionaire like Henry actually have very few people skills. They can read spreadsheets , and do regression analysis but have no concept of a dynamic built around 26++ personalities in their clubhouse. The numbers say that that this and that proposition should pay off over big samples , but it says nothing about winning today. There could be no two more disimilar personalities on multple fronts than Chaim Bloom and Alex Cora. How those two could have anything in common is beyond me. When Cora or Bloom eventually go, the exit interview transcripts would be priceless.
  10. Much agreed. Pap was honest and forthright. Wake's favorite comment , "Yeah, he does" adds a lot to the commentary
  11. Subsequently read Cora's comments that Story is still in ST mode and team won't insist he returns until Trevor says he is ready. He knows how his body is reacting to playing. Basically Story is another prima donna who has been close to worthless for 2 years since signing .
  12. Why is Story being held back at Worcester for the next series? Any info available ? I know one thing, he isn't there to get to be a better player in AAA. If he just needs reps , get them vs the Royals.
  13. Should have brought in Jansen, but probably saving him for the Royals . Reyes's is the newest BP stud
  14. Verdugo with 3 hits in a meaningless effort . DP'ed when he could have made a difference with the bases loaded early in the game.
  15. Outscored 25 to 8 in a key series. Or is that outpitched by a team with an actual rotation ?
  16. Robertson, like many of his peers, thinks there are only 2 outs to an inning. He got those on about 6 pitches, but then collapsed under the pressure of the third out needed.
  17. Came from the Dodgers in the infamous ( No, not Mookie), trade for Kike. Another guy came over also, but he isn't quite ready yet
  18. Did they battle or just find yet another way to lose at the end ? That was the total history from 1919 to 2004. Like the '78 game , it was both , but always ended the same. Like 2023 is heading, wait until next year.
  19. Unanswerable question----why can't the Red Sox hitters fly the ball the extra 3-5 feet that would convert flyballs to wallballs or better ? So many warning track shots
  20. Don't look now but Bleier has achieved 5 outs on 13 pitches. Now he is due to blow up
  21. But first, they had to lose the play-in game in excruciating fashion to B.F. Dent with Yaz popping out to finish it off vs Gossage
  22. He also has been available a couple of times but the Sox chose to go with a spent JBJr. No offense JBJ, but if you could hit you'd still be there
  23. Very small point in a 11-1 beatdown but in 5 innings the Sox failed to score from leadoff doubles, 2 on, bases loaded . The bats are about to go 9 games scoring 3 runs or less, except for last night's meaningless 4 spot and a 6 run win.
  24. Sox about to go to 9-11 in the last 20 while supposedly making a run for the 3rd WC slot. What is it about reality that eludes these FO types. It was a poor roster to start the year, amazing that the team got themselves above .500 but are once again reverting to the mean.
  25. Down 10-1 in the 5th inning with more to come, we will get the thrill of seeing a Red Sox position player come in pitching . Who is the lucky sucker. I'd go with Wong, wearing his catching gear so he doesn't get hurt
