  1. Ok, Story beats out a routine bouncer that Anderson read the print on, so he does hustle. Just don't try to steal 3B Nice sac bunt by Wong Followed by a nice sac fly by Cedanne. gets the run in Then Devers gets the credit for the LOB/RISP
  2. Sale gets a 5 inning shutout at 90 pitches. I would expect him back for the 6th, at least a couple batters before playing bullpen roulette
  3. I think was evident during the sweep by the Pirates in April. This roster was never ready to win big. 19-31 over their last 50 ? That is not a competive group.
  4. She's a bubblehead so doesn't surprise she can bobble about as good as Kike at SS
  5. Certainly enlightening that once again vs a high ERA pitcher , Toussaint, the Red Sox batters cannot get a string of hits/walks going in their home park. Of course that matches up well with the shutout pitching so far from Sale.
  6. On the surface it is a good stat. His stuff can be unhittable. On the other it tends to run up his pitch counts, like tonight. he is unlikely to go more than 5 innings/100 pitches unless he can get a 1-2-3 quickly.
  7. Aside from his protracted slumping at bat, Story is a mystery on the bases. Very fast if someone hits behind him, but not great when on 1B getting picked or breaking too soon on a failed steal attempt.
  8. Pop-ups, foul or fair, should be caught at the MLB level. Sale is no longer good enough to get 4 outs per inning
  9. True or not: If the Sox go 9-0 to finish out, and the Rangers and Astros both go 0-9 then the Sox could be in a 3 way tie for the last WC. Answer: No , because the Rangers play Seattle in their final 3 and someone has to win. Sox cannot match the Astros , Jays, Rays win total , even at 9-0. So I think it is officially over Sox could still catch the Yankees to see who is worse.
  10. Someday over the winter, Bloom will get interviewed and provide his own story. It will be nuanced and non-argumentative because he will want another baseball job within a year or so. he also probably signed a NDA , if not already in his contract, so he can collect his last contract year pay. Bloom will be around baseball, including the staff of MLB , for the next 2-30 years. He would fit well in the Commissioner's office.
  11. Bloom, I imagine was a consensus builder who effectively made decisions by group discussions and analytical reviews. His indecisiveness or "paralysis of the analysis" is a typical outcome of this methodology. They try more to avoid mistakes than to make significant moves. In retrospect, you can see this philosophy in action coming from a Yale grad majoring in Latin classics. Although his entire working career , all the way to 40 years old ( hah!) , has been involved with baseball for no apparent reason, he is not a relatable personality to players or field level operations. Glad he is gone because he was not going to breakout of his mindset as a conservative , group decision making , bureaucrat . Should be working in government where the outcomes do not matter.
  12. Devers error scores as Robertson serves cookies
  13. Nick Robertson is a rare gem. The bullpen roulette goes on for Cora. No matter what number he calls , he loses
  14. I think Abreu has a sore hand from banging into the wall in Fenway . Not on injury report.
  15. Bello looks unhittable on the first 2 guy in the 3rd, then issues a 2 out, 4 pitch walk, then hits the next guy. What the F is he smoking ? Then his 2 out walk scores on a hit . Bello got nada Infield dribbler to load them up, followed by walk in the next run.
  16. Fairly amazing that the non-correlation of hitting and pitching outcomes , since all are merely the sum of individual occurrences, for the Red Sox appears to be that when the hitters hit, the pitchers suck and almost perfectly vice versa. Odd anomalies and aberrations
  17. It's only 1 play but Dalbec's pick at 1B and turning it into a DP saves what little is left of Bello's start.
  18. Bello coughs up a 4 run lead in the 2nd. Unfortunate Doesn't bother me anymore because so many here have convinced me that winning doesn't matter . I think that is what got Bloom fired. Now up to 6 runs surrendered with no outs in the 2nd. Bello beatdown
  19. Dalbec remains the dilemma as to what to do with him. Big solo shot to dead CF shows what he is capable of. He remains cheap to carry on the roster but probably has been fully aced out by Triston Casas . Bobby doesn't have time on his side at 28
  20. Duvall gets the Sox an early lead with a great 3 run, 2 out key hit. Turner worked a 2 out, none on walk and Dugo bounced a ball out of 3B range to keep the line moving
  21. Bello vs Jon Gray, RHP. Cheer on , boys . You can still win 80.
  22. Don't worry, if the Ownership hires a CBO/GM type with top level MLB experience, Cora will be gone because he accepts the losing. If an in-house committee of Romero-O'Halloran, and others is the answer , then you will get 4 more years of muddled results. Time for a true house cleaning upstairs
  23. Great finish by the weak sisters of the AL East.
  24. You can only win the one you are playing. Yesterday's gone. My real concern with this team and , by inference, with Cora, is the lack of intensity it takes to win. This is not an exciting team with players who pull wins out of defeats. It doesn't matter that they have already chalked up another lost season , it matters that they do not know how to win. The legacy of Bloom will be a rebuilt farm system, always helpful, and a MLB level team that just accepts defeat over and over with no visible reaction. They are passive, not aggressive. They are defeated in their profession.
  25. Here's another one for you , Moon. Schreiber is incapable of getting anyone out when it counts My bad, he K's Garcia Oh wait, he walked in a run with 2 outs Check it again, he gets the requisite 2 outs after a hit , 2 walks and 2 runs allowed. Brilliant
