  1. Watching the Reds reminds me of where Boston was in '22/'23. Physical and mental errors, failure to execute with MoB, weak support for good pitching. It does highlight the marked improvement in the '24 Sox, even with significant injury problems causing a lot of usage of AAAA players
  2. Bernandino seems to have some issues when brought back out for a second inning, even after closing the previous inning with just one batter.
  3. Wong and Duran are the two most improved Red Sox, along with Tanner Houck . Almost unrecognizable from 2023 to 2024 mid-season. The core of this team seems set with another bulge of potential MLB types still in AA/AAA. Supplement with some more experienced, post TJS pitchers and this could get formidable in 2025.
  4. Let's see if we can pull out a series win on a BP game. The BP got somewhat used yesterday due to Pivetta's short start . I think the issue of either extending Nick as part of the rotation, being trade bait at the deadline or left out in the cold to wander this winter is being decided by Nick himself. This would be a good game for the bats to break out early and get a laugher win.
  5. Wong's pick up of the dribbler near the plate and quick turn back for the tag out showed more of his very good athleticism. It is tough to be quick at catcher on a hot day but Conor made the play
  6. Watching the replays of Duran's run, I notice Devers stayed at home plate watching the ball to see if it was worth running or not. It was a hot day so I get his point.
  7. I need to go to RedSox.com and get Duran 5 votes
  8. Neither Martin nor Jansen particularly sharp today. Duran saved Jansen's ass with that catch over the wall. Sox send Cincinnati to second loss of year after leading through 6. Good one to win
  9. Kenley in for the true save here. No room for walks or HBP or errors behind him
  10. Yes, he did . That's why he gets the big bucks. Good thing Red's field has very close seating
  11. That was Duran, not Devers that got the lead run. Wong's AB was sad to watch. He cannot pick up that sweeper. He is too far off the plate to cover it well
  12. Not a rocket by Refsnyder but very effective at bringing in the tying run and sending Duran to 3rd with no outs. Maybe the Sox can pull this out and go for the series on a BP day
  13. Sox are in the danger zone, trailing by 1 late in Cincinnati who are now 31-1 when leading after 6. The series is on the line.
  14. The Great Karnak has spoken---In the top 7, Yoshida will bounce a ground ball to the 2Bman. But beat it out for a hit. Trying to stay positive on him No, the samurai actually hit a useless fly ball . 3 for 25 in last 7 games, .120/.345 . Keeps me thinking that his thumb is truly affecting his hitting. Cora or FO pushing him as the regular DH is explainable , if not agreeable, but it is hurting the team at this point.
  15. Back to Pivetta being Pivetta. 4.1 innings, 3 runs, including 2 HRs, and 96 pitches. With a BP game tomorrow, Nick did not help the cause in any manner. He needs to be better
  16. No reason to not beat this Cincinnati team. Time to wake up the bats after avoiding a bad inning. Thanks Brennan B. Good move on De La Cruz with Devers running him down
  17. You are correct, Arte Moreno's team in Anaheim has a terrible record of issuing really bad contracts ( Josh Hamilton, Rendon) or gets bitten by two of the best players in baseball missing extended periods while under contract ( Trout, Ohtani ( TJS))
  18. Pivetta throwing a great 4 innings other than being in position to field a ball hit at him, and the 2 HR cookie pitches. Not sure where his future is going. A #4 or 5 on a good staff ?
  19. Smith broke slowly out of the batter's box because he thought the pitcher was fielding the ball. On top of that, he is slow anyway.
  20. Pivetta gets the 2 out HR out of the way early . Sox play better from behind anyway, but look out if you trail Reds after 6 innings.
  21. Get us another 5 gamer ( minimum) , SS. Looking for a big day from the key hitters today to back Pivetta's shutout
  22. !4 K's in a losing effort with a less than great defense tonight. Ends the streak at 5 . Still can win the series with a strong weekend .
  23. Cora tried to squeeze a little too much juice out of Kutter's citrus tonight. Should not have been out for 7th . Booser tries to make one of those glove flips and lets in 2 runs.
  24. With yet another soft tapper to 2Bman, let's be honest. Yoshida is now officially a liability. Even his few hits are soft bloops . I guarantee you that sore thumb joint is a significant factor . Look at the number of hitters who are using a rubber protector on that joint. In his last 7 , Yoshi is .148/392 OPS. 4 for 27 with 1 walk.
