  1. Any teams giving out 10 year contracts will regret them in about 5. They hardly ever work. The closest one working was Manny and it was 8 years. Manny produced year after year. Pujols? Nope. I know Harper and Machado are younger but 10 years is a long time. Injuries, decline, being a jerk (Machado) can all make 10 year contracts risky.
  2. He is not going to get 14 million for two years from anybody. If thats what it takes, good bye and thank you for your services.
  3. Pearce grew up a Red Sox fan. Fenway Park is made for him. He has a chance to play a lot and maybe get another ring. He will re-sign with the Sox. He is the perfect platoon player and veteran leader they need.
  4. Exactly correct. I feel the same way. Buckner should have written the Brothers Osborne song, " It Ain't My Fault".
  5. The Sox were truly the best team in baseball all year, from start to finish. They dominated two, 100 win teams and the Dodgers. The 2018 Red Sox should go down as one of the all time best teams. What a fun year to watch and follow them.
  6. Sox were also up on Houston in 8th inning of Game 4 last year. With any luck, they could have tied the series and maybe won it in Game 5. That would have changed that season.
  7. Red Sox have won the AL East 3 straight years. That is a dynasty. The WS Title is icing on the cake. Meanwhile, the Yankees have won 1 title since...........I forget how long.
  8. It seems to me that Dave knew Eovaldi could pitch in the bullpen and I would guess he had already had conversations with Cora about using starters in relief in the playoffs. That made the bullpen much, much stronger. Plus, he had faith in Kimbrel, Kelly, Barnes and Braiser. DD knows more than you, I, the fans and the media. He went for it. He won it. He did it. Let the parade begin.
  9. Sox need to bring back Pearce to platoon with Moreland for one more year. Sign Andrew Miller to close. Resign Kelly and Eovaldi. Kimbrel is gone, hopefully to the National League. Pomeranz is gone. Kinsler is gone. Trade Leon for whatever they can get. Pedroia is the 2B with Holt and Nunez the backups. Devers is full time 3B. Vaz and Swihart platoon at C. Hope Wright, Thornburg and Smith can come back healthy. This team will keep the Sox in contention all year, if not in first place, and DD can add to the team like he did this year. If the core stays healthy, they could repeat. But for now, lets all enjoy this year's team! What a ride. What a season. As Sox fans, we live and die with each game. Everyone felt so bad on opening day when they blew a 4-0 lead to TB. It is a journey and a marathon. Cora managed a great season. It all feels so good now. Can't wait for the parade.
  10. And he resigned Moreland. That 3 run homer in Game 4 was HUGE!
  11. Despite his error in Game 3, I think bringing in Kinsler solidified 2B during the season. Kinsler was a solid veteran who helped the Sox win. Dave also signed Ryan Braiser.
  12. Dave Dombrowski won it all with the Marlins! And now he has come in after the Sox were in last place and brought them back to champions with a series of bold trades and smart pickups. Theo has nothing on Dave. For all Theo did well here and in Chicago just remember that he also had unlimited resources at his disposal and a lot of talent was already here when he arrived. Theo also made a lot of dumb moves. He signed Carl Crawford. He traded Anthony Rizzo. He signed Mike Cameron. He hired Grady Little. For the Cubs, he signed Jason Hayward to a massive, horrible contract and gave Edwin Jackson 4/52M. He is not golden. He is just a guy to will probably be dressed in a gorilla suit this Halloween.
  13. Still feel that way today? Theo was playing golf yesterday. DD was watching his team win the World Series. Maybe Theo should be getting coffee for Dave.
  14. I started this thread on July 9th and said the trade for Pearce was looking like gold. I like being right. Thank you Steve Pearce for all you did to help the Sox win it all. Dave Dombrowski should be the executive of the year for what he did with Pearce, Eovaldi and Kinsler.
  15. I believe they just have to be on the 40 man roster to be protected from Rule 5 draft.
  16. Vazquez proved in the series that he should be the starting catcher. Leon can't hit at all. Swihart has too much offensive potential to give up on him. If they would be able to get something good for Swihart is the only reason to move on from him.
  17. I remember a poster earlier this year saying the Sox gave up too much (Beeks) for Eovaldi and that they gave up a too good of a prospect for Pearce. LOL!
  18. Don't forget Pearce, Kinsler and Kelly. I would like to see the Sox bring back Kelly, Pearce and Eovaldi. Kinsler is gone for sure with Pedey coming back. Pomeranz is gone for sure. I would like Kimbrel back but he will want too much money and too many years. I think Leon gets traded and Swihart is the full time platoon with Vazquez. I think this season showed that its not who you start the season with, its who you have when the season ends. Dave Dombrowski and his staff deserve a tremendous amount of credit for what they did. I don't hear anyone complaining about DD gutting the Sox farm system now. He made the moves he had to make to get a championship. The cost was well worth it. Great job. Go Sox!
  19. Price or Pearce MVP but who cares? They are all MVPs. What a team. What a season. What a ride.
  20. To all the posters here (except Yankee trolls, Jacksonionmarch and billywilliams) congratulations and well done.
