As far as fastballs are concerned, thirty years ago the speed of the fastball was measured when it crossed home plate. It's now measured a few feet from the release.
Also years ago there were more pitchers and fewer throwers.
I have more faith that Sale will help the starting rotation more than anyone the SOX will bring up from the farm. Even if Sale begins in the BP, it's still a major plus.
