One last anecdote about Joe D. He had a reserved table during his playing days at Toot Shor's. His meals and drinks were free. Joe never left a tip.

Manny holds the world record for most dead grandmothers. Francona: "Manny, the team is going to the White House." Manny: "I can't go. My grandmother just died." I'd heard that Manny employed the 'dead grandmother' excuse at least 4 times during his time with the SOX.

The baseball books I've read pretty much paint Joe D as an *******. One of his rules was that for him to agree to show up at a Yankems' old timer's day, he would need to be paid $10,000 and he would have to be announced last. Ted may have not been a great family man, but as a human being he was heads and shoulders over DiMaggio.

Btw, the longest on base streak by base hit or walk since 1949 is 63 games, which was accomplished by ex-SOX Orlando Cabrera in 2006.

Watching youtube earlier and discovered that Teddy Ballgame in 1949 reached base by base hit or walk in 84 straight games, which is a record that is rarely brought up. In 1941 Teddy reached base by base hit or walk in 73 straight games, which is the 2nd longest streak. William's lifetime OBP was .482.

I think I see Bloom's pattern here. He DFA's a reliever and then picks up another team's DFA'd reliever.

Based on the number of relievers that Boston has DFA'd, most of them should room at the Y.

I don't know this as a fact, but I wouldn't be surprised if the SOX have DFA'd more relief pitchers over the last 2 seasons than any other MLB team.
