  1. The 6th game of the '86 WS was reminiscent of what we've seen so much this season. A reliever(C. Schiraldi) who easily got the 1st two outs, but couldn't get the 3rd out. In fact, I've posted a couple of times on the GT that if innings were comprised of 2 outs instead of 3, the SOX would have the best BP in MLB.
  2. I agree, but the main Yankem culprit was Lou Pinella.
  3. Before the steroid era made a mockery of all power stats Jim Rice in 1978 had a season for the ages. He led all of major league baseball in triples(15), HR's(46), RBI(139), Slugging(.600),OPS(.992), OPS+(157), and TB(406). He also hit .315 . His 406 TB were the most since Joe DiMaggio's 418 in 1937. Rice also hit 15 triples in 1977.
  4. Another thing that may have helped both Maris and Mantle in their HR barrage in 1961 was the addition of two new franchises in the AL. Both Washington and LA were added.
  5. That's impressive. I would have figured many more HR's at home than away.
  6. I was thinking the same thing. It's all about the park you're playing half your games in for the most part. This really doesn't hold true for Judge this season.
  7. They better spend it wisely.
  8. Location, location, location. Maris was playing in the perfect ballpark for him when he hit 61. It also didn't hurt having Mantle hitting behind him.
  9. Today that 50,000 would get you a nice EV.
  10. What's overlooked a lot when talking about Maris is he was an excellent defensive right fielder.
  11. Earlier last week two people won the Illinois state lottery. They will share the prize money of 1.5 billion dollars. Of course, that's before taxes.
  12. The fan that had Maris's 61st HR was given $5,000.00 for the ball. That would equate to $50,000.00 today.
  13. Hindsight is, well you know.
  14. Yup; it's gonna take a multi-year contract from someone. Can't blame him; get the money while you're hot. Once you get it it's yours to keep.
  15. Turns out Arroyo isn't physically injured; he suffering from a non-Covid illness. He'll be no threat ever to Cal Ripken's Iron Man record.
  16. Like I posted a few weeks ago I hope Sale doesn't decide to take up skiing in the off-season.
  17. When I post 'ages,' I'm going back to 2007. That was the debut season of a SOX starter who may hold the SOX record for having his last name misspelled the most.
  18. Speaking of Oscar Wilde, here's one of his well-known quotes: "Work is the curse of the drinking classes."
  19. Now that I think about it, that would be interesting to watch.
  20. The Judge cult at the game would go crazy and start an insurrection.
  21. Sounds more like an Oscar Wilde quote. Hey, Max, here's a quote you don't see too often: "Wait till next year."
  22. At least I now understand why this ESPN baseball announcer sucks so bad. Phil Rizzuto was his role model as a play-by-play guy.
  23. Bello looked good tonight. He's definitely the best starting pitcher to come thru the SOX farm in ages.
  24. That I'm watching this game just shows how much I dislike NFL football. Fortunately, the NHL season begins soon.
  25. In the scheme of things, unless one is a season ticket owner, it's relatively unimportant, imho.
