  1. could be, but what are the odds? less than 10% certianly. For all practical purposes I'd consider him here thru 27'
  2. I wouldn't. But I do wonder if he's hurt. YOu don't go from having some of the best range in baseball to having the range of "sylvester stallone" in one year from normal decline. He's battling something. If that's something he can easily recover from and that $150 million would be paid down would I consider it? yes
  3. I'm not denying SF is not as friendly for hitters. But since Devers was trade to the Giants in both 2025 and 2026 he has hit better at home than he has on the road. In 2025 he has WRC+ of 138 and an OPS of .843 at Oracle park while he was 118/.786 on the road. This year the road/home splits are almost identical. He's just not hitting as well as he historically has everywhere right now. I think there's more to it, as you pointed out his exit velocity and hard hit rates are down. Some guys just start their decline earlier than others and a lot of ball players start to go downhill around 30. Maybe we really did dodge a bullet trading Devers when we did...
  4. EDIT: Wilson Contreras is not on an expiring deal, he does have one more year left. I'd still keep him on that list. Someone would pay handsomely for him the way he's swinging the bat.
  5. The must sells Wilson Contreras, Sonny Gray, Aroldis Chapman, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa. There are other names we can talk about. But all these players are on expiring deals (assuming Mutual options are not exercised which is almost certainly the case). In the absence of any shot of making and competiting in the playoffs you just have to sell high on those guys.
  6. I wonder, does anyone believe the Sox should be buyers?
  7. Here's how I'd improve the team. I'd work out trades with the Brewers for multiple players. I'd then not make those trades. I'd then go to other teams and find out which of our prospects they want that the Brewers didn't want and trade those guys to make the team better.
  8. going out and adding underwater contracts to this roster would be like rubbing salt on a wound. Dear god, if this team sucks just sell....just sell and look towards next year.
  9. Small sample size but Caleb Durbin the past couple weeks is batting .297 with a .794 OPS He also has 4 more RBI's than Alex Bregman in 94 less plate apparences. So.....it could be worse and perhaps he's turning it around.
  10. I looked this up the other day and the number was actually higher than I would have guessed, I don't care to look it up again but it was something like 7% of the time. Which despite my feelings on the issue is still really low. If Chapman is good enough he's going to go to FA and get a higher 1 year deal.
  11. Most good baseball players don't come up and immediately produce at an all star level. Some guys need time to develop at the MLB, most guys do. Lots of ball players inbetween Tony C and now. A young player like Mayer burns a bigger hole on your roster when your roster sucks to begin with. So therefore the problem isn't Mayer. The problem was never replacing Devers/Bregman
  12. I don't think anyone clings to them like the know all be all. I'm very ingrained in the world of prospectum and everyone is very aware that prospects will break your heart. It feels more like the opposite to me, a prospect is ranked very highly and prospect people get excited knowing they can bust and people who aren't into prospects are the ones who get all pouty about it when they don't pan out. Pure conjecture on my part, but that's what it looks like to me.
  13. I haven't heard that one, but I believe it. I believe people think the Sox influence those lists. But, even so, Mayer was ranked high as a top draft prospect before he was ever in the Sox system.
  14. I think the term "overhyped" gets over used. No one can predict a humans future with 100% certainty. What organization isn't going to have high expectations for a kid drafted #4 who was ranked as the top draft prospect nationwide? He could still end up being an all star.....or a dud. I don't think calling someone "overhyped" in hindsight is really fair. If people want to say "I think he's a bust" that's a more defensible argument, still too early to say so in my opinion but at least it makes sense.
  15. Ok but to be fair he was a good hitter while here.....he was never a gold glover.
  16. I don't want to say they are definitively wrong....But I think you'd agree with me that it's pure conjecture on their part.
  17. You made the comment that his poor stats are a result of hitting at a pitchers friendly park and all I did was point out he's actually been better at home than on the road this year. You brought in Fenway park.
  18. SUre, past is all we got. But the past also tells us that every single baseball player eventually starts going downhill. The wall is undefeated. Is Devers there? probably not yet.
  19. Point is, it's not like he moved because he couldn't play SS.
  20. Speculation, I said "for all we know" because you don't know how he would be doing here.
  21. Now that's an entirely different argumen. You also heard a lot of people, including me, saying that the Sox needed offense and they added very little and lost even more. If the Sox signed a big bat like Schwarber or Alonso and had other people hitting in the lineup no one would care about Mayer, heck maybe he'd even be doing better without so much pressure on him. Expecting your rookies to carry the team is ridiculous, even if they end up blossoming into All Stars.
  22. How do you or anyone know that for a fact? For all we know he could be putting up much worse numbers right now.
