  1. I think that depends on what you define as "full on fire sale" If they traded Bogey/JDM/Eovaldi.....well those are all guys hitting the open market always this offseason. Doesn't change the holes they need to plug up.
  2. They may, maybe not exactly how GG is envisioning it but I think they have a vision of what the roster could look like. But I don't think they plan as much based off of that because they know so much can happen, which is why I said in a previous comment, I don't think teams make roster decisions based on guys below AA.
  3. I like this, I'm ok with Verdugo in RF but I think the team is much better if you upgrade in RF and put Verdugo in LF. This team desperately needed two outfielders always, Kike is 1/2 the puzzle for 2023....and that's assuming he can stay healthy. Not sure how great of a depth option Franchy/Duran is at this point. You hope Duran can take a step forward and maybe at least be a replacement next year, or maybe the bat develops to make up for subpar defense. But I never want to see him in CF/RF again. So if Kike goes down and and Verdugo slides to RF I still want a good CF/RF on this team. Which is why a guy like Nimo still makes sense if you ask me.
  4. Obviously, not every team operates the same but as a general rule, you don't plan the big league roster on guys below AA. So much can happen between now and then and guys can always move off the position. The SS/3B tandem of Bogaerts/Devers could easily be 3B/1B in a few years. Mayer may lose a step and be better suited for 3B/2B too for all we know. Things don't always work out this way but generally speaking up the middle players are the most versatile on your roster. Mookie Betts was a 2B by trade but moved off position because he was blocked. Unless the guy is knocking on the door in AAA I don't think you worry about that, we could really use another bat to lengthen the lineup. Just think about how much better the offense has been with Kike/Story back. You take that away and shorten the lineup if you don't replace Bogey's bat. Verdugo has the arm for RF, and he's not bad there but I don't think he's great either. I'd still like the Sox to go after a CF/RF type. I don't want another LFer.....we have 10,000 LFer on this team haha.
  5. It takes several years to fix the farm assuming you hit in the draft, even teams who draft well don’t hit sometimes.
  6. Wrong! Top prospects get traded for premium players all the time. We traded away the #1 prospect in all of baseball for Chris Sale. And if that’s your philosophy and you can’t develop pitching then guess what? You don’t have any pitching and you lose. When is the last time the Sox developed a TOTRS? It’s been over a decade. That’s a great strategy, but until you get there and you currently don’t have an ace in the pipeline your only options are FA or the trade market. I’m the biggest prospect homer in here, I’d love to retain Mayer and think we likely do, but you won’t see me crying about it if he goes for a young cost controller ACE.
  7. I think of Betts was offered that money pre-Covid he would have rejected it. I think Betts was dead set in going to FA, but if he stayed here throughout the pandemic he may have came to the table with the Sox. Unfortunately we will never know for certain.
  8. No he’s not. He had the right ideal though, I think if you want to add quality, cost controller front line pitching the trade market is the way to go. Otherwise you’re spending $200 million plus on a guy who’s 30+ looking to break down. There seems to be injury risk with every pitcher nowadays, but Casas seems like the kind of Prospect you keep, now If Bobby Dalbec turned out better then Casas may be the guy you trade for pitching.
  9. Deal I’ve always wanted to check out a sea dogs game in Portland. I try to see them as often as I can when lever they come to Hartford.
  10. Or maybe I’ll just buy the Yankees and make all the wrong moves
  11. If I could jump in a time machine with the power of knowing the future you better believe I’m playing the stock market. Then I’m buying the Red Sox and taking a super hands on approach to who we draft and who we sign. Super team after super team after super team
  12. It’s called hyperbole.
  13. FWIW some of ya’ll do, and I respect that.
  14. There should be a new law. You do not get to criticize without offering your own solution, or outline what you would have done. Otherwise your opinions are just complaints and not critique. Here it’s easy I could do it. Bloom bad, bloom no pitching good, bloom no guy home runs, people hurt bloom bad don’t get good guys. Talk is cheap.
  15. To also be fair, you can overplay your hand. A strong farm coupled with money to spend should equate to an a better product on the fields It would certainly give us more interesting things to argue over in here.
  16. This is fair, but if you play your chips correctly, a strong farm typically precedes results.
  17. Agreed, Sox would need to make improvements to their pitching staff if they want to move up in the rankings. What free agents would you sign to strengthen Bostons pitching????
  18. He will probably come close to 100 IP this year, you hope he can get close to 115-130 next year.
  19. Exactly which will drive up the price even more, and they’re all 30 and older. The one thing we seem to agree on here, is it seems optimal to explore the trade market to upgrade the rotation.
  20. No, but If there’s no one you like on the FA market then you trade for them. So I’ll ask again, what pitchers would you sign in FA????
  21. This is exactly what I’m talking about, why not SUGGEST a FA pitcher we go after.
  22. Wow….so insightful. FWIW I’m talking about trading Mayer for #1 starter ace. Last time we did that we gave up TWO prospects Mayers caliber plus more. It’s so funny how people can criticize the FO but yet their concept of how much a FA should be paid, or what we should pay in a trade is so lopsided and devoid of any realization that there are other GMs on the other side of a deal and other teams bidding on players. Or they think we can trade a large number of garbage prospects for a premium player, like would you do that? Would you take 10 garbage prospects for Rafael Devers? Then there’s the other group who have the mantra of “well it’s not my money” or say they’re just prospect and would gladly trade the entire farm for a rental. The biggest weakness on this last place team is pitching. They desperately need pitching. So let’s hear your genius plan to strengthen the pitching staff.
  23. Also, and I’m not GM, but as a general rule I don’t think you ever plan a MLB roster with anyone below AA in mind. They’re years away and So so much can happen. It’s like, I wouldn’t let Myers stop the Sox from resigning Bogaerts. (Or signing another top prospect). If Bogaerts is full performing at an all star level and Mayers looks ready to produce it’s a good problem to have.
  24. I’m not sure how confidence I have in Valdez and his .700 ops below average D profile. IDK, maybe Arroyo stays healthy at 1B.
  25. All those guys might not even hit enough to be MLBers, maybe Kavadas, but he’d still be a below average defensive profile.
