  1. Two names being throw around for the possible return are Nick Robertson, and Justin Hagenam. It’s a weak return as in these are both relief arms BUT two thoughts. First, the fact we are getting anything for Kike is amazing, we are probably eating salary, so what. Secondly. Despite not being stellar prospects both these guys have high floors as relievers and are a lot lot better than the scrubs we’ve been had riding the shuttle this year.
  2. This is a good point. It's easy to not feel sorry for them with the money they make but they're still people and they have families that the love and they have to think about possibly uprooting them and moving to another side of the country. That's a big deal.
  3. Kind of yeah, I have no ideal where he would have been drafted if he were state side. Completely guessing here but I could see him as a supplemental first round pick or 2nd round. That’s a very promising young player, still more Henry Owens than studs in there but that’s no different from any other young pitcher. It’s very risky.
  4. They can offer someone $158,655, so no, this concludes our draft.
  5. an 18-year-old high schooler who could throw 95+ would get at least $300K in the draft here so, not sure what these guys don't like? his control? BREAKING NEWS 18 YEAR OLD TEENAGER STRUGGLES WITH COMMAND. Yeah, that's a real high-risk guy to draft in the first round and waste 1/2 your bonus pool on when the hit rate on high school pitchers is the lowest in baseball. This sounds like the same level of risk as he's of the same age but he only costs you $300k so so what. I'm pretty sure no one will complain about bringing in a young pitching prospect who has potential.
  6. Yeah I saw a post on the soxprospects forum where the screen shot of the Milb page showed a time stamp. Thought it said two hours, today it’s looking like 1 idk. I’ve already declared in here that I know nothing.
  7. Lol And he signed hours ago
  8. I just realized I have no f***ing ideal how much a first round draft pick would make in Korea. I assumed it was much less than MLBs draft but figured the #1 pick would make more than $300k And just now I’m realizing that I don’t even know if the KBO has bonus system. I know nothing.
  9. I feel he would make more money if he was the #1 pick over there. Maybe he just wants to start his pro career now and not wait until his late 20’s to play in the US.
  10. Just learned this, Wilkeman is 2nd in all of minor league baseball in K's. He has an impressive 14.88/9IP K rate this season and 11.7/9IP for his career. Here are some other Sox pitchers of recent and old career minors K rate and their double A rate Wilkeman 11.7/9 - 14.88/9 Lester 8.3/9 - 9.7/9 Bello 10.8/9 - 12/9 (Bello was also a year older than Wikelman here Pedro 9.5/9 - 9.3/9 The dud misses bats, if his control improves, he's a weapon.
  11. I don't think scouts are looking at those stats as much nowadays, it's all about the underlying metrics, exit velo, swing and miss% spin rate etc etc. His high whip is more of a function of walks, not giving up hard hits. Perales is closer, but these guys are ranked #7 #9 in the Sox system, a system where 6 of those top 9 are on someones prospect list. Wilkeman may not be that far away, saying a guy is top 100 or close to top 100 are two different things. Perales likely gets there first, and has more of a chance of doing that. But aside from walks, GOnzalez has been great. A young arm struggling with control isn't exactly the most uncommon thing either. Perales I think has a chance to break onto some lists this offseason if he finishes the year on trajectory, Wilkeman may need to continue this into next year and maybe get on some mid seasons. It could go the other way too, they could fall off a cliff.
  12. I would say it's less than 1% either signs. Reimer likely takes up the rest of the bonus pool.
  13. I’m not sure those guys have high ceilings but that’s ok. Less talented players can still reach their ceiling or close to it and be serviceable major leaguers, and sometimes even carve out a spot trusted in the bullpen. We have a few of those on the big club this year. ERC is still very young so, perhaps he has some upside as well
  14. Trading away prospects that hit can derail the team for years too. You gotta spend the money somewhere and if you have a juggernaut of position players in the minors can sign a pitcher to a long term deal. More than one way to skin a cat; I prefer the Fa route. Get a proven ace who can help mentor the youth and serve as a 1-2 punch out with Bello
  15. I don’t think you count on alll those guys coming back to fill two holes, I think you count on 1 and go get a starter. If everyone gets healthy, just push someone to the pen
  16. Ok but the price will be steeper, I’m fine with a rental, and then going out to buy in what will be a very robust starters market in 2024
  17. It’s frustrating but not all to uncommon for a young pitcher. He’s an exciting guy
  18. Why? What’s wrong with a rental?
  19. Sox have two young pitchers flying up their rankings. This is pure conjecture, but the way both Wilkeman Gonzalez and Luis Perales are throwing they might start squeezing into peoples top 100 lists. Wilkeman went 6 innings today striking out 10 and giving up 0 hits. Recently promoted to Portland Gonzalez is sporting a 4.44 era on the year but with 124 is in only 75 innings. Could Bello just be the beginning of an improved Sox system of developing pitchers? We shall see.
  20. Sox have a top 10 farm.
  21. I’m all for keeping the band together and going for it. But if you’re even thinking of selling you have to listen to offers on Paxton. He’s your best trade chip, realistically speaking. He’s already pitched more Innings this year than the last few years combined so how much more can he give this season. It could be the ultimate sell high. Or not, which is why he will command a good return. Teams overpay handsomely at the deadline for quality pitching.
  22. The only way Anthony sniffs Portland this year is if he’s still raking and Portland has better playoff opportunities. In which case it’s still September baseball. I don’t think it happens, the Sox brass have criteria they like to see at every level and it’s not all about stats, at all. Anthony has some holes in his swing, and very bad splits right now. The Sox aren’t going to push him to Portland right after pushing him to Greenville.
  23. “Only being a rental” lowers the return. If you want to keep the farm strong by not depleting it and you still want to strengthen the big league club for a possible playoff run…a rental is what you should be looking at.
  24. False equivalency, Baltimore doesn’t spend. LA is a better model, they focus big on drafting well, scouting and building up their farm. Then they spend big, and the results have been pretty darn good in LA.
  25. I feel like they sign one of them. Someone gets less than thought somewhere and one of those guys takes less than thought. Maybe Schlaegel on 250K or something like that. This is pure speculation.
