  1. Alex Bregman is a very good ballplayer. I would not put him in the SuperStar or future Hall of Famer category. The Sox are paying him an awful lot of money. Fenway is ideal for him and he does seem happy here. I don't see any other team offering a contract that would make him want to opt out of what he has.
  2. I think the Sox will continue to win without Devers. They are playing with a renewed confidence.
  3. Probably won't have The Bronx at the top of the list either after watching that pathetic performance in Fenway over the weekend.
  4. Dever's bat will be missed. His attitude will not be missed. He was paid a lot of money. But he would not hustle and set an example for the younger guys. He was insubordinate to the General Manager and possibly the owner. No organization needs that kind of employee. The Sox will be fine without him, both now and in the long run.
  5. " A waste of Crochet and Bregman"? How so? Does that mean you think the season is over? We just saw how the Sox can handle the overrated Yankees. And there are several good options to DH. Losing Devers and his attitude is not the end of the season. Not at all.
  6. Hicks, along with so many pitchers , is currently on the I.L. But when he returns, he could be useful in the bullpen. Still throws in the high 90's.
  7. We probably don't know the whole story here. It could be that Devers has a bad attitude, and they don't want that rubbing off on the young players. Devers is a very good hitter, but he is not nearly the player that Mookie is. He is being paid more than he is worth. So, I think folks are overreacting a bit to this trade. There is still a lot of talent on this team. And they just proved that the Yankees are very beatable. This is no reason to give up on the season. And I don't mean this as a defense of John Henry. I am no fan of his. But I do think Breslow knows what he is doing here.
  8. Ryan Yarbrough is a soft tossing career ham and egger. Big edge to the Sox in this one.
  9. The whole buyer/seller thing is just nonsense that somebody concocted and G.M.s are supposed to follow at the " deadline". The fact is that any deals a G.M. makes at any time should be with the intent of improving the ballclub now and/or in the future.
  10. The goal should always be to win the division or, at the very least, to make the playoffs. And this year's edition of the Red Sox absolutely has enough talent to do that There is something seriously wrong with the attitude of a Sox fan who wants to abandon ship in the month of June.
  11. I have never put anyone on ignore . And I have never wanted anyone to be banned. An open forum , with differing ideas and opinions , is good for business. As for rude and obnoxious comments, there seems to be a very subjective reaction. Some things never seem to get a reprimand. I guess it all depends on whose ox is being gored and who is doing it. But that's life . I understand how it works.
  12. The way pitchers are breaking down these days, I would be very careful about trading an every day regular with All Star ability for a pitcher.
  13. Duran is the leadoff hitter. An exciting player who is a catalyst to the offense. Trading him would be a mistake.
  14. I think there is a third option. Steady, even keel and positive. A baseball season is long. Plenty of ups and downs. The Red Sox have a good amount of talent. It is absurd to give up on the season in the month of June.
  15. Some baseball fans are extremely entitled and very obnoxious when things don't go the way they want. They go after the players all the time, so managers are not going to be exempt from the vitriol either.
  16. Many teams are having problems with their rotations and their bullpens due to the staggering amount of injuries . The Red Sox are not alone in this.
  17. Summer hasn't even begun , but the mood swings are everywhere.
  18. At this time, there is no reason whatsoever to move Devers from DH to play first base. There is no logic to that at all.
  19. Here I come to save the day. You know that Anthony is on the way.
  20. I am not a manager. And I never will be a manager. But if I were a manager, I would never allow any of my players to be interviewed while they were supposed to be concentrating on defense.
  21. OPS is a fabricated stat, figured by adding two real stats together. It has value in evaluating a hitter. The problem with it is the fact that some things are credited twice , plus it assumes that on base and slugging percentages have exactly equal value. Predictably, we now have OPS+. . Soon it will be OPS - and xOPS and so forth. The stat folks can never have enough stats to satisfy their hunger.
