  1. That could be deceiving. Some closers , if they have more than a one run lead , will pretty much ignore the baserunner. Just focus on the batter.
  2. The Sox can still sell advertising space on the left sleeve of the player's jerseys. Help pay for Devers.
  3. I think most fans identify much more with the players than they do with management. So , when management lets their best and most popular players get away, it is going to alienate a lot of people. The cure for that is winning. But winning becomes more difficult without the lost talent.
  4. All I can say is that losing Xander takes away a lot of the good feelings from yesterday.
  5. Could be the leadoff hitter this team has been lacking.
  6. I give Bloom credit . I think he realized what has been apparent to me . That the bullpen is the number one problem on this team. And a good closer is the cornerstone of the pen. There are some age and health concerns with Jansen , but he is top ten in all time closers. He knows how to get those final outs. Now I feel more confident that Bloom will sign Bogaerts and make an attempt to return this team to the top.
  7. It seems like there are a lot of quality free agents this year , as well as some really big names. I don't see where it is such a bad year .
  8. Money Ball has now become " we don't have enough money ball. "
  9. The Dodgers had the best team in MLB , but they seem to be losing a lot of guys. I wonder what their plan is ?
  10. Folks complain about the pace of play in baseball. What about college football ? The endless series of reviews , replays , penalty flags and various other delays is really getting annoying.
  11. The playoffs are expanding to 12 teams, so 2 and 3 loss teams will be included then. The SEC is by far the toughest conference. Alabama is a better team than TCU. I wonder if any of those committee members would put money on TCU in a game against the Crimson Tide ? I doubt it.
  12. Great pitcher who has trouble staying healthy.
  13. Agree that more bullpen help is needed. I don't think Martin has closer's stuff, but he should help.
  14. Good to see a little spending on the bullpen. Martin is a tall righthander who will turn 37 early next season but should be an improvement from most of the guys we have been watching. He pitched very well for the Dodgers last year.
  15. No big loss. The USC game showed the difference between an NFL caliber quarterback ( Williams ) and a ham and egger ( Pyne ) . N.D. needs an upgrade at quarterback.
  16. Re. AL East vs AL West: Tommy : " I might have gotten my ass kicked, but I live in a tougher neighborhood than you Jimmy.". Jimmy: " You might be right about the neighborhoods Tommy , but you still got your ass kicked. You need to get stronger. "
  17. Yeah. This approach is working really well.
  18. What do they do when somebody from the organization dies? Put a patch over the Mass Mutual patch? Or next to it?
  19. When it comes to OPS, Story has shown a drop for the past three seasons. 2019- .917 2020- .874. 2021 - .801. 2022 - .737 . It has been said by some folks that players start to decline at age 30. ( However , they usually only say that when it suits their argument. ) I do think it is fair to say that Trevor Story's first year with the Sox was a disappointment. We all hope for improvement in 2023.
  20. Fixing the atrocious bullpen is much more important than acquiring an " Ace " . You should never go into hock for a new Maserati when your roof is leaking.
  21. Mayer was the reward for the disgusting 2020 fiasco. The top farm prospects , Bello , Casas and Rafaela were all Dombrowski finds.
  22. The boss gets the credit or the blame. The person that is in charge has to be accountable for the results, be they good or bad.
  23. I guess it depends on your definition of "very upset." Would " a bit testy " be more appropriate ?
  24. They get very upset at any criticism of Bloom. To me, it's not about hate. Just win, baby.
  25. Absolutely.
