  1. People are missing the whole point of my comment on that sac fly . Gurriel did nothing to be congratulated for in that at bat . Getting on base in any manner was the goal . Anything that got him on base would have been better than the sac fly .Except for helping his stats , a strikeout would have been no worse . No comparison whatsoever to what Eovaldi did in the Series game .
  2. If that's what it takes to make Sale succeed , then let Leon catch him . Every catcher needs a day off anyway . But that's it . Just Sale . Vasquez has to catch the others . You don't want to lose his offense too often . And the DH spot is pretty much taken .
  3. Being shorter is probably more of a drawback for a pitcher than it is for a position player . It can even help a hitter because of the smaller strike zone . Mookie certainly seems to be strong enough . No problem here .
  4. No question. Pitching , both starters and relievers , has left much to be desired.
  5. Benintendi still has a significant upside. I wouldn't trade him unless the return was significant. I have trouble understanding how otherwise loyal Sox fans are so quick to turn on guys who are struggling. As a ( very ) long time Sox die hard , I don't currently have any particular favorite players or any particular scapegoats either . I root for them all , even when they leave Boston. ( I do make an exception for Steven Wright . I have a hard time pulling for him . ) Benintendi will be fine . Be patient.
  6. Mookie still has an excellent chance of landing a big contract . There is a rather small pool of teams that are in a position and are willing to spend big , but it only takes one to get it done . I still think it will be Boston.
  7. I saw the end of that game too . Shoddy defense by the Cubs was the problem. However , to me Kimbrel looked somewhat overweight. He was throwing just 95 - 96 tops . That will not get it done . Maybe he is still in spring training mode or maybe he is slowing down . The Cubs better hope it's the former .
  8. Every time you think the Sox are ready to rumble they seem to lay an egg . Can't really pinpoint one reason . If it's not one thing , it's another. At this point, there is not a whole lot that can be done. Hope Eovaldi comes back and helps stabilize the bullpen . That might help . Beyond that , I don't know . I certainly don't think trading Mookie is a serious consideration. At least , I hope it isn't.
  9. Looking more and more like a superstar.
  10. The Blue Jays are in full tanking mode . They have no use for quality pitchers like Stroman and Giles . Those guys only get in the way of the tanking .
  11. I believe he is expected back right after the break . Not sure how much of a AAA rehab stint he will need . But rushing him back too soon could only lead to more problems.
  12. I honestly don't think they are in a hurry to get Pearce back . It would only create a roster problem at this point . Not sure where Pearce fits in this lineup .
  13. The Mets have had a lot go wrong this year , but they do have a lot of talent . They are certainly a better team than Toronto. In fact , every team in the N.L. including Miami , is better than Toronto. There is way too much tanking trash in the A.L. these days .
  14. Can possibly pick up another game by beating up the hapless Blue Jays again . Yankees have a tougher one against the Mets .
  15. Patience is a virtue . We have patience with other struggling players . Why not Benintendi ?
  16. Absolutely. You only had two outs left . Now you have one . The Sox would gladly trade an out for a run in that situation.
  17. Are you serious, or do you just like being disagreeable? It is not a productive out when it's the ninth inning. If you don't get that , you don't understand the game either .
  18. Here is how messed up baseball is : Down five runs , with one out in the ninth , Gurriel hits a sac fly for the second out . He goes back to the dugout and gets high fives . Do these guys even understand the game ?
  19. We just might have had unrealistically high expectations for our starting pitching . A realistic look shows that Porcello is a reliable, durable starter , but a career 4.00 plus ERA guy . Rodriguez is also a 4.00 plus ERA guy . As is Eovaldi . Sale has had shoulder issues . And Price has only recently escaped the " bad list ." Johnson and Velazquez are pretty much in the " ham and egger " category . We may have been expecting too much from them all.
  20. Kimmie , It may be a panic move , but I think the situation we are in requires it . As it stands , we cannot match up late in games with the Yankee' s bullpen. This should help . Sure , Eovaldi could be a fifth starter , but if he can't stay healthy what good is it ? I know you don't value the closer role as much as some do , and I do give you credit for being consistent with your opinions. We would all like to see starting pitchers go deeper in games , but that is not happening too often in baseball these days . It is up to the bullpens to pick up the slack . I think this is a good move and should provide a much needed boost to the pen .
  21. Interesting because the Sox had made it clear that they wanted him to start , and he said he wanted to start . But I think this is a good move . I like this a lot . If it works out it can help stabilize the whole bullpen . And the fewer innings pitched could help keep Eovaldi healthy . Obviously , we will need a fifth starter unless we go the " opener " route . But I do like this a lot . Could be just what the doctor ordered .
  22. How much confidence has Wright inspired anyway ? In four innings pitched he has given up six hits including a home run . ERA - 4.50 WHIP - 1.8
  23. I think John Henry was basically saying, " How much money do you expect me to spend on this team ? " Note to Mr. Henry : John , many fans feel the same way about the ticket and concession prices at Fenway .
