  1. I get the lefty / righty matchup platoon thing . But Bradley has played some big games against lefty starters . Do you really want to sit him for Gorkys , who wouldn't even be here except for the roster expansions?
  2. I understand that . But was it really a good move today ?
  3. Seemed kind of odd . Taylor went one inning . Marcus went one . Then Johnson came in and went four . Why didn't Johnson just start the game ? What was the reasoning ? Maybe just to say we used an opener ?
  4. When you are leading in the eighth and the setup man blows it , I think it is fair to call it a blown pen game .
  5. Verlander no hitter . 14 K's. Just one base runner. Third of career .
  6. Houston got two runs . Going to the bottom of the ninth now .
  7. Verlander has a no hitter through eight innings. But the Astros haven't scored either .
  8. Absolutely. No matter how big your payroll may be , you still have to spend the money wisely to cover the important areas . Or , you can hope to get lucky . Sometimes that works . Sometimes it doesn't.
  9. It's usually going to be a problem when you blow 50% of your save opportunities. That is what our bullpen has done this season . Say what you will about the nuances of the save rule , it represents a game that goes into the win column. As the late , great Vince Lombardi said ; winning is kind of important. Or something like that .
  10. Moon , You say you are usually the last one to abandon ship. But this year , you beat the women and children to the lifeboats .
  11. The disappointing performance from the rotation was certainly not anticipated . The bullpen problems were very much expected . Or at least should have been . A strong, deep bullpen can , at least to some extent, compensate for a weak rotation. In any case , expecting to consistently get seven good innings from your starter is not realistic in today's game .
  12. The blown save losses can be very disheartening . But don't abandon ship just yet . Let's see how they they respond . Can still bounce back and make a run .
  13. The uncompensated loss of Kimbrel and Kelly greatly harmed the bullpen . Not only the closer position , but the overall depth as well . The idea that we would be fine with what we had left was an error . This is not second guessing .
  14. I have to disagree . 1 - The Sox are by no means out of the running as yet . 2 - The Yankees would really not have much trouble beating the A's . 3 - Home field throughout would give the Yankees a leg up on winning it all . You are a ( somewhat ) influential poster . You have followers. Don't lead them astray.
  15. In that scenario, should the Yankees beat Oakland in the ALDS , which would certainly be likely , they would have home field for at least the ALCS , if not the whole post season . That would give them a better shot at going all the way .
  16. The Yankees facing the A's in the first round means that the Sox didn't make it . How can you be hoping for that ?
  17. College football kicks off with its traditional " cupcake " weekend . Wherein the top teams enhance their rankings by destroying and humiliating thoroughly outmanned and inferior , albeit well compensated , opposition. All while trying, often in vain , to keep the games under four hours . And it most likely will end with yet another Alabama vs Clemson battle for all the glory . In between, there will be plenty of thrills .
  18. Probably just have to gut it out tonight. As of tomorrow, we can have all the reinforcements we want . And some we don't want .
  19. We have reached the point in the season where the pressure amps up . It's something that can't be quantified, so there are going to be those who don't believe it . The strength of schedule doesn't mean everything. All the stuff about if the Rays go 16 and 12 , we have to do this , etc . means nothing. You grind it out . Take it day by day . And see who survives .
  20. It is kind of amusing when there is a money dispute between the owners and the players , fans call the players greedy , and side with the owners . The next negotiations on an agreement should be interesting . The players are aware of how cheap some of the owners are , and how enormous their profits really are .
  21. I don't think anyone has any illusions about catching the Yankees . The new goal has to be getting the second wild card and taking our chances from there . The games with the Yankees are no more or no less important than the other games , with the exception of the series with the Rays .
  22. You will be forever remembered as a quitter . A terrible fate .
  23. I have to laugh at the owners being scared off by the self imposed " luxury " tax . All these guys know is luxury. The owner of the downtrodden Kansas City Royals is looking to sell the team for One Billion . Far , far more than he paid for it . These guys are raking it in . One can only imagine the money John Henry takes in from the Red Sox , Fenway Park and NESN .
  24. No more waffling . No hedging your bets. They are entering the stretch and heading for home . You're either in or you're out .
