  1. I don't know how I could prove something like that . Just my opinion that we don't .
  2. If the Sox had held on to Margot , Allen , Asuaje and Guerra , then went cheap at closer for a Tyler Clippard , how much success do you think they would have had the last three years ?
  3. Those darn greedy players are always trying to put the squeeze on the poor owners .
  4. Henry doesn't seem to have a lot of trouble finding the right guys . But no matter how successful they may be , things seem to go sour .
  5. I'm pretty sure he has the time . He probably doesn't know much about baseball , but I would think all big expenditures would have to be approved by him .
  6. Okay. You are in the " jury is still out " camp . When is it time for a mistrial ?
  7. We should not put all the blame for this season on Dombrowski , and none of it on Henry and / or Cora . There is plenty to go around .
  8. I don't know about that . I don't think any of the others could have been swapped for Moncada to get Sale .
  9. For the most part , the prospects D.D. traded have not amounted to all that much . Moncada being the only one we could have used . And you don't get Sale without dealing him . We will see about Dubon . Anyway , Devers is better than any of them . And Logan Allen is not exactly the next Koufax . How can you say it was worth it because we won a ring , and then keep crying about the lost " prospects " ? The jury has already given their verdict . Case is closed .
  10. Maybe not strictly because of that , but I do think it was the biggest factor .
  11. Have to feel for Justin Verlander . Poor guy never seems to catch a break in life .
  12. I think D.D. , and many Sox fans as well , fell in love with Nate largely because of his valiant post season performance . A look at his entire track record would have cast doubt on the wisdom of that contract . At any rate , John Henry signed off on all of Dombrowski's moves . He could have said no .
  13. I have been hanging in there with this team , but it might now be time to give up the ship . They show no fight whatsoever . I don't know what the problem is . Very disappointing .
  14. Not saying the ship is sinking , but Sweet Caroline is being replaced by Nearer my God to Thee on the next homestand .
  15. We don't know , and may never know , the " real " reason Dombrowski was fired . On the face of it , it seems kind of strange that someone could have that much success , then get whacked for a few mistakes that resulted in a down season .
  16. The Sox responded to big Papi being in the house last night by playing inspired baseball .
  17. I don't know if there are any stats on it , but I don't remember there being so many opposite field home runs as there has been this year . Really tough for pitchers . You think you made a good pitch , the batter is late on it , and it still goes out to the opposite field .
  18. I think the Sox have to make every effort to retain Betts . He is a special player . A true five tool player . A franchise player . It will cost plenty , but sometimes you just have to do it .
  19. When you rub people the wrong way and come across as smug and self satisfied ; you probably do need to win every year . May not be fair , but what is ?
  20. Barring a dramatic turn around over the next three weeks , I think a number of players , including JBJ , are in jeopardy of being moved in a thorough house cleaning .
  21. Kind of tough when three three straight A.L. East titles and one World Series championship gets you axed . I think John Henry probably gave Shaughnessy the scoop on this to kind of set the stage . There most likely were several reasons for this firing . 1 - A complacent , inactive and seemingly smug ( D.D. does kind of exude smugness ) off season that led to : 2 - A ( not entirely surprisingly ) disappointing season that included a real butt kicking from our arch rival . 3 - Big money contracts to Eovaldi , Price and Sale that did not produce the desired results and could be a burden for years to come. 4 - A farm system that is pretty much devoid of any real blue chip prospects . 5 - A desire to go with somebody new who ( hopefully ) can correct the above mentioned . Good luck with all of that .
  22. That is a plan . But it seems contingent on J.D. opting out . That is not likely to happen . Nor should we want it to . He is too valuable to this lineup .
  23. Somebody has to take the hit . LeVangie seems like a pretty convenient fall guy . I would wonder if he did a good job with guys like E-Rod , Workman and , to a lesser extent , Hernandez and Tayor ? The biggest problems seemed to be the vets like Sale , Price , Porcello and Eovaldi. Guys you wouldn't think would need much coaching . And probably are so used to doing things their way , that they wouldn't pay much heed to anything Dana said anyway .
  24. The A.L. contenders all benefit from playing the plethora of piss poor teams in the league . The imbalance in the A.L. is considerable. I would say that the Twins are not nearly as good a team as their record , either real or Pythagorean, would indicate. Playing in the A.L. Central is their biggest strength .
  25. Pythagoras was an Ancient Greek jabroni who never quite understood the difference between a blowout and a close game .
