  1. Yeah . I just noticed that . We all know , that while there is no " I " in " team " , there is definitely one in " time."
  2. Thanks Dewey
  3. Thanks Kimmi.
  4. If we are talking about the athletes who were truly transcendent in their sports , the crème de la crème , I would say this : Baseball - Barry Bonds . Football - Tom Brady . Basketball - Michael Jordan. Boxing - Muhammad Ali . If we are talking about all around athletes , I think that is another discussion altogether .
  5. You want me to go away again ? I'll think about it . Thanks.
  6. Me too .
  7. Like the fella once said ; " Ain't that a kick in the head ." Not sure what that means , but if it's good , thanks MVP.
  8. Thanks Notin.
  9. Thanks Bell .
  10. Since the last time I was here , there seems to have been nothing but trouble and turmoil in Red Sox Nation , as well as here on TalkSox . So , with a bow to that true American hero , Mighty Mouse , I give you this : " Mister trouble never hangs around , when he hears this mighty sound ; Here I come to save the day . That means that Dgalehouse is on the way . On the sea and on the land , he's got the situation well in hand . "
  11. This is dgalehouse . I am a lifelong Red Sox fan . I'm not as old , or nearly as nice , as bosoxmal , but probably older than almost anyone else on here . I enjoyed posting here and reading the ideas and opinions of the other Sox fans . I tried to contribute to the forum in my own way . Maybe in a little different manner and with a little different perspective than the usual forum stuff . Plus an occasional ( admittedly lame ) attempt at humor . But it does become time consuming . And when you feel that you are not really enjoying it and actually getting aggravated , ( how dumb is that ? actually getting aggravated over some internet crap ) it is time to step away . So , farewell to my fellow Red Sox fans , the handful of Yankee fans who post here and the one distinguished Seattle fan , affectionately known as " The Cooler " . In the words of that great American , Frosty The Snowman , " I'll say goodbye , but don't you cry , I'll be back again someday ." ....... Or not .
  12. It's all baseball related . And my comment about bums ( not idiots ) with an audience and a keyboard was about the writer , Wittenmeyer and his hit piece on Theo Epstein . No reason for you to take it personally , unless you are , in fact , Wittenmeyer . My preference for old school thinking conflicts with the trendy analytics of today . That is where the fictional Nerdwell brothers come in . Again , no need to take it personally . It's all in fun . I do find it amusing that fans are concerned about the owners exceeding their self imposed luxury tax . And one thing I have absolutely no doubt about is that objectivity is pretty much dead . I have no problem with you , or anyone , disagreeing with anything I say . But the " clueless " thing is insulting . And I really don't need or want to have anything " explained " to me . I have been around the block many times .
  13. Congrats , Notin . On your most insulting and obnoxious post ever . And that is saying something .
  14. Well , I don't know who that was . It wasn't me . And I'm not sure what it had to do with Theo . Am I missing something here ?
  15. Billy Beane has found a nice , little comfort zone in Oakland . He gets praise for any success and little or no blame for any failures . He makes a lot of money and has become famous . There is minimal pressure . The expectations are modest . He is happy .
  16. Fans have trouble identifying with players making millions and looking for more . I get it . What I don't get is why they side with the owners , who have so much money that they really don't even need this nonsense . But they continue to soak the fans . The fans take it and continue to ask questions like , " If we pay JBJ 10 million , what will that do to our budget ?" " Will it put us over the limit ? " Too funny .
  17. No matter how successful you have been , no matter how well you have done your job , there is always somebody eagerly waiting to pounce on you for any stumble . And regrettably , most of these bums have an audience and a keyboard .
  18. Tito sends his best wishes . He says , " Thanks a lot Alex , you son of a bitch ."
  19. Absolutely . The best way to win championships is to consistently make the post season . The Sox have done very well in that regard . And this year has certainly been a disappointment . A disappointing season that cost Dombrowski his job . Just as 2014 and 2015 cost Cherington his job . The bar has been set quite high .
  20. Objectivity is a lost art . We all have our ideas and our opinions . And there are now so many stats to choose from that we can always find a stat , time frame or sample size to cherry pick in support of just about any position we take . The debate is endless . But in the end , there is only one stat that matters ; wins and losses . The standings of the clubs is the bottom line . There is no getting away from that .
  21. The Fightin' Irish enter the Lion's den down in Georgia tonight . In two relatively easy tune up games , they really have not shown anything that makes me think they have a chance against Georgia . Sorry to say that this will not end well tonight .
  22. I tend to agree with most of what you said . E-Rod looks solid . Bogaerts and Devers have blossomed into stars . I think both J.D. and Mookie will remain . I do think Workman has shown enough to get a full shot at closing next season . The doubt I may have about him is that much of his success seems to depend on getting the hitters guessing and chasing . Not sure if he can sustain that . But he has earned the job for now . I think Chavis has the raw power to become a real threat if he can cut down on the strikeouts . That remains to be seen as well . I would say there is little doubt that much of the Sox hopes for success next season depends on the health and productivity of Sale , Price and Eovaldi. A lot of money invested there . Just have to hope for the best , but it is a big question mark for sure .
  23. The Rays deserve credit for what they have accomplished under the circumstances . The G.M.s have done a good job and they have had managers who have gotten the most out of the players they had . But the bottom line is they have won only one A.L. pennant and no World Series in their existence.
  24. I would say the chances are slim . There will be a new sheriff in town . And there will be changes . Maybe quite a few changes . That's how it is when you fail to meet expectations .
  25. I doubt it . Having J.D. at DH is a big part of our offense . And the N.L. is much improved and more well balanced . Not so many tanking teams to beat up on . Now , if we could play an A.L. schedule and be in the N.L. standings , it would be great .
