  1. There are basically two ways to win big in baseball . 1 - You can obtain and develop enough young players until ( hopefully) they ripen into stars . 2- You can spend what it takes to acquire top talent through free agency and trades . Either method can succeed or fail . As a rule, method number two, spending , is more likely to win pennants and championships. However , it may not be as much fun for the armchair G.M.s.
  2. It's hard to figure . Some guys are just prone to getting hurt . Ellsbury was as finely conditioned an athlete as you will find . But always injured .
  3. We have the answer . Four whole days .
  4. In Bloom we bust .
  5. His nerves ? Or ours ?
  6. Excuses , excuses , excuses .
  7. Bloom is doing a great job so far . ( Just ignore the scoreboard ) Really hit the ground running , so to speak . Traded the best player we have had in years . And signed some real " hidden gems " for the pitching staff. They call him " The Magic Man " for a reason .
  8. Stanton is one of those guys who just cannot stay healthy. How long until Judge joins him on the I.L. ?
  9. It's a messed up season. Arguable if it should even be allowed to continue. A lot of the players have a lot on their mind , playing a game that requires a lot of focus. Especially the family guys . Not too surprising that many are not performing up to their standards. Maybe it will change as they get used to the unusual conditions. Maybe it won't.
  10. Supposedly, people want to rebuild the roster . But the more good players you get rid of , the bigger the rebuild job becomes . And you need good players to win . The whole thing becomes counter - productive and it goes on and on . Guys like J.D. and Devers don't come along every day . People need to think things through a little more .
  11. You know how these young ballplayers are . They do need a nice , cold glass of milk once in a while.
  12. Seeing pitchers get injured almost daily. They just didn't have the proper preparation for this season. Now , they are trying to ramp it up and it is too much strain. Just another problem with this crazy season. Is there really a good reason ( other than money ) to continue it ?
  13. Manfred is getting more anxious by the day . He may well pull the plug on the season any day now.
  14. This team won 118 games just two years ago . Now , there are a few pieces missing from that team , but they can't be as bad as they have looked so far . There is still talent on the team .They won last night largely due to the Met's rookie manager's blunders . I would expect better play and better results as the season progresses. The expanded playoffs should provide some glimmer of hope .
  15. It is done deliberately. Instigating is some people's favorite pastime.
  16. There are only about 20,000 other sites on the Internet where people can argue politics . I guess that is not enough . Or maybe this place is just more appealing. Or something like that .
  17. Strange indeed . Thanks . You too.
  18. What a crowd . What a crowd . Stand up can be tough , man .
  19. Hi Harm , How's it going?
  20. Folks who were enthusiastic about hiring Bloom , are going to be slow to criticize him . That's just the way it goes .
  21. It seems to me that many of the players are having trouble focusing on the game . The danger has to be constantly on their minds . And the whole spectacle is becoming ludicrous, what with cardboard " fans " in the stands , fake noise , extended playoffs, etc. I think it might be best to just throw in the towel on this season .
  22. Yeah . You can avoid the ups and downs. The highs and lows . You can be consistently mediocre.
  23. Let's trade anybody who's any freakin' good. Let's start over from scratch. Wouldn't that be fun ?
  24. Yeah . I mean it's about time Justin gets a break in life .
  25. Anyone else notice that without the crowd , the announcers have a hard time judging the fly out / home run balls ?
